  • Thanx for the last guide threu that beautiful castle !

  • they are now demolishing it.. it is a huge shame!!!

  • They are demolishing it right now..

  • Hopelijk komen ze dit niet slopen !!!!

  • Only a few days and it'll be gone...

  • bad news! the demolition will start this april has been given the go ahead for new luxury appartments. I wish this could of been stopped and people cared enough to save such a beautiful place :(

  • Mesen is still such a beauty ... standing haughtily out there, inhabited by the doves.

Today it's strongly protected by securities and the police.

  • ben ik al in geweest (':

  • I read it should have been demolished in 2007.

    Is it still standing?

  • Still standing for sure !!!

  • @spiritoflouis

But not for long anymore. They are going to demolish it next week I heard (I am from Lede) It is a shame!

  • @HelveticRaven not standing anymore since April 2010

  • This is a perfect location for a haunting movie, it has the creepy sphere and I believe at night there are a lot of bats

  • when did you go in? it seems to be recently?

  • Sorry for late reply ! May 2008

  • From then until now, they let it fall into pieces for 38 (THIRTY-EIGHT!)years... There were some destructions in WWI caused by german soldiers who lived there (that is why the nuns sold it after the war) but all was restored afterwards. In WWII,again german soldiers lived in the buildings but luckely nothing was damaged or destroyed. Anno 2008,this is not the case... :-(

  • These buildings were abandoned in 1970...

The oldest part was reconstructed in 1749.

In 1897 it was bought by nuns.Next to it,they built in 1900 the wing with the tower and in 1906,they built the wing with the chapel.

From 1900 until 1919 it was a monastary.

From 1919 till 1970 it was a bordingschool.

  • What happened to it? It looks institutional rather than being a residence. Did this destruction happen in WWI? I hope they don't tear down the shell - it could still be saved!

  • great trip!
