I don't think he's "taking credit" for them. I don't assume that he was involved in the making of all of those videos, that would be ridiculous. I see the channel as a compilation of videos that have entered the public sphere in one way or another and are therefore fair game to be subject to some sort of organization.

Copyright material which ends up in the "public sphere" is still copyright material and subject to copyright laws. The owners have the right to decide who copies them, not others who benefit financially and don't even credit the authors for their creativity.

The news footage should not be subject to copyright at all. I guess you're talking about someone's personal videos. I agree that credit should be given where credit is due. Some videos have some wording at the end to say "created by" which is not edited out. Is the person who runs this benefiting financially?

To be honest Not only didnt i care that failblog was banned. I wasnt suprised. They had news clips, home videos, and commercials that all had a copyright that wasnt theirs. And if it had to go oh well. I think this is a blessing in disguise. With all the copyright stuff going around youtube this will get more videos up than taken down by allowing people to get the difference between fair use and copyright infringment. The thieving sites like failblog just copy videos without the permission of the owners and make money from them. They don't even have the decency to give credit to the original authors for their creativity. When uploading videos, youtube plainly states that the person must have the legal authority to upload the video. If I made a copy of this video and put my name on it, I would be a thief too.
