ok so hopefully someone will answer this for me, so im a highschool football play about 16 yrs old and i dont really get scared but i dont like rollercoasters because i dont have any control but i REALLY wanna go skydiving...any tips for nerves or anything?
@xXEagle2101Xx The key is remembering that statistically you're safer jumping then you are driving a car or walking onto a football field. You'll be strapped to a certified jumpmaster with hundreds if not thousands of jumps under his belt. In my opinion, the ride up is the most nerve-racking part of the experience. Once you're out the door it's nothing but fun!
@xXEagle2101Xx That's why you'll have a backup parachute specially packed by a packing expert, and an automatic activation device (a combination altimeter/computer), which will automatically deploy the backup parachute if you don't. Don't worry! Be happy!!!!
hey man. good on you for doing it. I have been thinking of doing one of these. I managed a bungee jump last year and I was amazed that I did that. But I think this would be scarier considering it is higher up and you are falling for longer. You got any tips to calm me down and go for it?
@destinyson23 Yeah. Keep in mind that a bungee cord has no backup systems. Your parachute does, and you'll have a licensed professional with thousands of jumps under his belt strapped to your back. As such, it's probably a safer and more fun experience. Enjoy it to the fullest, and have no fear. Trust me... it'll be one of the best experiences of your life!
@selearemus That's because the sound of the wind can be overwhelming and sounds staticy, as recorded on a microphone. The only way to know what it sounds like is to do it.
Dude i cant wait to do this :D hopefully this month for my birthday should be awsome, its good to see you had a good time, would you do it again? dude what did the free fall feel like when you jump out the plane ??? :D
...@horndog2224 - ...was it fun?? Have you honestly ever seen someone land after skydiving sporting a frown? No way!! Only smiles, pride, and occasionallly speachlessness is shown. :)
I wanna go skydiving and am working on going with my uncle but wow its just like rollercoasters, Im gonna be soo nervous before it, but as soon as it starts il be having fun, and when its over il be like, I knew it wasnt gonna be bad
great songs! You look like you're having a lot of fun :-D. When I turn 18 I'm definitely doing this and possibly the certification courses. Great job!
Nice jump man! I did my first yesterday out of a Let 410 at 15,000ft, i was terrified before we took off but the fear just melted away in the plane & by the time we jumped i was loving it!definitely wont be my last!
IM pumped pete. i randomly booked a flight to another city. Now im looking to doing some sky diving. And some hot laps in a ferrari and i want to be a passenger in a stunt plane, wooooo.
hey wasn't that string hanging off because there were two people to keep you from going to fast ? please respond because in a few years when i skydive i dont want to think my parachute broke or sumthing thanks. :)
@longswordking - All objects fall at the same rate regardless of weight, so the speed is the same... but I believe the mini-chute string thing provides additional stability. I'm not entirely sure, though.
@peterdennis just wondering if most skydive places give a discount to military personell? i am about to graduate tech school and i'm planning to skydive while on leave
Well, riding a roller coaster doesn't hurt my stomach, but I can say this much: the feeling disappears almost instantaneously as soon as you're out the door of the plane.
The reason it doesn't hurt, is because that hurt come from going from a stand still to a free fall instantly. Where as when you jump out of a plane when your at the door of the plane you already feel the wind resistance and whatnot so your just adding a downward speed in when you jump out, but it doesn't change anything. the only way it would hurt at all is if you were say jumping out of a motionless helicoptor or off a cliff
I have never went skydivin but i think i will try it when im older! U know the fallin feelin for the first few seconds? im a little nervous about that fallin feelin cause it freaks me out cause i have experienced that feelin. But i bet after the first few seconds everythin will be the best! =D
Omg i hate that fallin feelin! xD I experienced this fallin feelin sometimes when im half awake and half asleep, it freaks me out lol. I have never went skydiving but want too! If i do skydive, i bet i will hate the first few seconds when u feel ur fallin but i bet the rest will be super kool! =D
doing my first jump in April. Iv'e always to fly (funny story, I used to tie my cell phone to a string and swing it around to see what it would be like) and I'm sooooooo scared! But I bet the most difficult part is finding the courage to jump. Any flyers wanna talk about their first jump?
The scariest part is the flight up to the jump point, when you're thinking "What the hell am I doing?" Once you're standing up getting ready to jump, you're trying to remember everything you need to do that you don't have time to be truly scared. The going out the door part is a bit terrifying, but after that it's all fun!
Wow dude nice job as exciting and amazing as this looks i could never do it. I have a question, though. You know that falling "feeling" you get like on a rollercoaster and other stuff? how bad is that when you're falling like that? do you even feel it after a certain amount of time?
Not really. I mean, you feel it for a second when you exit the plane, but the feeling fades away quickly and is replaced with the thrill of pure adrenaline.
Awesome. One of the best experiences of my life. ~60 seconds of pure adrenaline and excitement, then several minutes of beautiful tranquility and perfect silence.
hey just a couple questions....im 14 and want to go SOOOOO bad. i have asthma though, and the last time i went on a plane my ears hurt. do they before you skydive? also, its pretty safe right?
It's a pretty safe sport with all the advancements they've made in recent years, such as reserve shutes, built in computers that deploy if you forget to, etc.
I don't know what to tell you about your ears popping. People's ears pop because of the pressure changes. That's just part of flying. But since you jump from 12,000 feet and not jetliner altitudes, you may be alright. As for the asthma, my friend with asthma went with his inhaler and didn't need to use it, but everyone is different. :-)
i just did my first jump (Free fall) here in NB Canada and it was the greatest thing I've ever done. I'm bringing all of my buddies the next time I go. I wish I got the video made but I'm sure that I will next time.
I'm 16 and I was meant to be doing my first one on Wednesday, but it got cancelled gue to bad weather :( gotta re-book it! Watching this....I cant wait now!!!
Normally, actually. Don't worry, there is plenty of air up there! And it'll be flying into your mouth at 120 mph. Trust me, breathing isn't a problem... I assure you, your mind will be on other things!

I just did mine last Friday..soooo easy...not scary at all. don't be scared. I was too busy yelling and screaming...making funny gestures to think about breathing....lol
Wow that looks great! I'm turning 18 june 9th and I'm going skydiving on the 10th. It's something I've wanted to do since I was 6, and I have less than a month and a half to go! Can't wait!
I love this video and how you don't stop grinning! I'm going in June for my graduation present and I'm pretty excited, I just hope I don't chicken out or freak when it's time to jump
Thanks! You'll do fine! Just remember to take a moment and breathe before you jump out the door - that breathe will give you more courage than you can imagine!
i've got some questions about skydiving if anyone could help me... what does it feel like to free fall, when the chutes deploy do u feal as if ur going that fast, can you breath with all that wind against your face?
It's one of the most exhilarating and wonderful feelings you'll ever experience. Your mind goes clear and all the stress and suffering of life is forgotten for some time - it's usually an hour or so until the high wears off... for me, anyways... You can breathe just fine the whole way through the experience - naturally... when you pull the chute it's like God suddenly grabbing a hold of you and stopping your fall - and then you experience just breathtaking views.
i did my first jump about 6 months ago. we went up in a single engined small plane it sucked im so jealous i wanna go up in a plane as big as you did. i want to go start my liscence program. Im addicted. Where is this Orange place at? Sweet video/filming. :p
I'll admit, I tried to climb back in the plane but my dad (My tandem master) was deadset on leaving. He also didn't hear me saying I didn't want to go.
Thank god I went though. I've done another 9 (TAFF, not just normal tandems) since.
I'm doing an AFF course in July and getting a rig as a last Christmas/16th birthday/next Christmas present.
Dude.... you seem like you had a blast and are just really cool!!! I'm stoked for ya... I'm thinking about doing it myself.... but Can you breathe???? and you fall out and eventually feels like you're floating and that stomach feeling isn't really there eh? lol hahahaha... wow
till your 18? I don't know about in the US, but in the UK you can jump at 16, though I did my first jump at 18 this year on my birthday, and let me tell you, I haven't been able to stop smiling.
Only for the first few seconds of the freefall, then your brain sorta goes click and you don't even notice it since you're more focused on the fact that you're hurtling towards the earth at 120mph. My friend went for the first time on Saturday, and said she only noticed that feeling for the first 2-4 seconds.
i would think its because of the change in motion? i dont know, im going to go to a wind tunnel very soon, just so i dont make a complete ass out of my self on my first jump, wind tunnel helps
getoffofme, When I did my jump, I was expecting that feeling (which i hate btw) but unlike peterdennis, I dint feel it in the slightest after the first few mili seconds.
wud you do it again pete? i want to skydive but i'm scared i'll piss my pants and my instructor is going to get pissed off and let me fall without the parachute.
I've done it again... another 5 times, 6 in total, and I'm just getting started! It's not as scary as you think, except for the moment you go out the door. After that, you're soaring with the birds, and it's one of the most incredible experiences you'll ever have! And don't worry... if you piss yourself, it'll dry on the way down. ;-)
Sil, what ever you do, Dont do a tandem jump, go for the AFF, only pussies go for tandem, im only 16, and my first skydive is going to be an AFF, i hope to get licenced too.
cuz i think the AFF training is like 2000 bucks, then its 20 dollars to jump on your own.
I disagree. I say do at least one tandem jump, just to ensure you're familiar with the feelings and the experience before you put yourself in a situation where you really have to focus on what you're doing in an extreme environment.
Yeah, well I think its a good idea to do a tandem jump first, I did my in september, now im about to book my AFF for march next year, yeah its soo expensive, even more so here in the UK, ganna cost me like £2000 which is near $4000.
Have you thought about learning to dive on your own?
I work at Duanesburg Skydiving in NY (near Albany) and they could totally work with you on a Static Line course so you can progress in the sport. I am in the course right now and I'm having the time of my life!
ok so hopefully someone will answer this for me, so im a highschool football play about 16 yrs old and i dont really get scared but i dont like rollercoasters because i dont have any control but i REALLY wanna go skydiving...any tips for nerves or anything?

It's one of the most exhilarating and wonderful feelings you'll ever experience. Your mind goes clear and all the stress and suffering of life is forgotten for some time - it's usually an hour or so until the high wears off... for me, anyways... You can breathe just fine the whole way through the experience - naturally... when you pull the chute it's like God suddenly grabbing a hold of you and stopping your fall - and then you experience just breathtaking views.

does the person attached beneath get a chute just in case the straps brake and he's on his own.
mkdaly96 4 years ago
Nope, which is why the straps are so heavy duty!

i did my first jump about 6 months ago. we went up in a single engined small plane it sucked im so jealous i wanna go up in a plane as big as you did. i want to go start my liscence program. Im addicted. Where is this Orange place at? Sweet video/filming. :p
SirLoin1987 4 years ago
I did my first jump 5 years ago... at age ten.
I'll admit, I tried to climb back in the plane but my dad (My tandem master) was deadset on leaving. He also didn't hear me saying I didn't want to go.
Thank god I went though. I've done another 9 (TAFF, not just normal tandems) since.
I'm doing an AFF course in July and getting a rig as a last Christmas/16th birthday/next Christmas present.

isnt it hard to breathe while skydiving becuase of the wind blowing in ur face?
iSondex 4 years ago
wind blowing in ur face?....... open ur mouth and the wind will blow right down ur throat and into ur lung! SORTED!
monkynutzuk 4 years ago 2
Is it hard to breathe when your skydiving??
Since your going so fast the wind must blow right into your face making it hard to breathe.
Just a random question but please reply:)
iSondex 4 years ago
No, it's easy to breath. I've never even thought about it. But I had no problems breathing.

blckbltsnwbrdr 4 years ago
till your 18? I don't know about in the US, but in the UK you can jump at 16, though I did my first jump at 18 this year on my birthday, and let me tell you, I haven't been able to stop smiling.

do u get that gut-wrenching feeling u get on rollercoasters the whole freefall?
getoffofme24 4 years ago
Only for the first few seconds of the freefall, then your brain sorta goes click and you don't even notice it since you're more focused on the fact that you're hurtling towards the earth at 120mph. My friend went for the first time on Saturday, and said she only noticed that feeling for the first 2-4 seconds.
peterdennis 4 years ago
i would think its because of the change in motion? i dont know, im going to go to a wind tunnel very soon, just so i dont make a complete ass out of my self on my first jump, wind tunnel helps
ipkfrance 4 years ago
oh my goddddddddd, ive got one booked for february!! sooooo scared now having watched that!! arghhhhhhhhhhh xx
cliffystars 4 years ago
getoffofme, When I did my jump, I was expecting that feeling (which i hate btw) but unlike peterdennis, I dint feel it in the slightest after the first few mili seconds.
UKmatt89 4 years ago
wud you do it again pete? i want to skydive but i'm scared i'll piss my pants and my instructor is going to get pissed off and let me fall without the parachute.
Silvoleon 4 years ago
I've done it again... another 5 times, 6 in total, and I'm just getting started! It's not as scary as you think, except for the moment you go out the door. After that, you're soaring with the birds, and it's one of the most incredible experiences you'll ever have! And don't worry... if you piss yourself, it'll dry on the way down. ;-)
peterdennis 4 years ago
Sil, what ever you do, Dont do a tandem jump, go for the AFF, only pussies go for tandem, im only 16, and my first skydive is going to be an AFF, i hope to get licenced too.
cuz i think the AFF training is like 2000 bucks, then its 20 dollars to jump on your own.
ipkfrance 4 years ago
I disagree. I say do at least one tandem jump, just to ensure you're familiar with the feelings and the experience before you put yourself in a situation where you really have to focus on what you're doing in an extreme environment.
peterdennis 4 years ago
Yeah, well I think its a good idea to do a tandem jump first, I did my in september, now im about to book my AFF for march next year, yeah its soo expensive, even more so here in the UK, ganna cost me like £2000 which is near $4000.
UKmatt89 4 years ago
Im fourteen and im going on my first jump january 12th...tandem of course

louiseuk999 4 years ago
Yep. Orange, VA. Google "Skydive Orange"
peterdennis 4 years ago
Hey Congrats! Let me know how it goes! Are you doing that in Orange?
ScuttleProductions 4 years ago
Yeah - they're great! However, I wouldn't mind going for a dive in NY. Do you have an e-mail address I could contact you at?
peterdennis 4 years ago
Have you thought about learning to dive on your own?
I work at Duanesburg Skydiving in NY (near Albany) and they could totally work with you on a Static Line course so you can progress in the sport. I am in the course right now and I'm having the time of my life!
