That's what my friend used to do. He was a stock profiler. I THINK that's what it's called. All his titles are so dang confusing. When he worked at One World Trade Center he had this long*** title, which he said meant he works with world trade currency and its exchange rate. It's a mouthful not to mention a brain full to remember. Especially when I have no clue how world trade exchange rates effect US economy.
I thought he said (on the second question) "my portfolio grows by 25% and now I have 100$" so why dosen`t he do 0.75 divided by 100? how does he get 125?
@MrMGD92 because the questions says "it grows" which is addition. for example a crowd of 2 people grows by 5 people is the same as 2+5, so back to the problem once you find the percent you still have to add t to the whole number $95
@3888799 Hi I understand the method of getting the % as in I understansd how too times with decimal points I just don`t understand how to add up when decimal points are involved.
Robb knows what hedge funds are. That's what he was doing when he worked at One World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
He said he had just pulled two portfolios, b/c he was going to meet w/ the profiles' owners-who were always late to their appointments-when something crashed into the building and shut down the electrical system (he didn't know it was a plane when it first hit the building; nobody in Tower 1 knew what was happening until they were rescued.)
@vickiormindyb THANK YOU FOR REPLAYING. BUT WHAT IS THE FORMELA FOR THIS PROBLEM? My credit card GIVE ME A 2% CASH BACK ON PURCHEASES I MAKE. I JUST WANT TO SEE IF THERE RIGHT. AND I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO IT TOO. THANK YOU.
@demilo1625 looks like 44.44%. just let 28/63=x/100 and cross multiply. 28/63 is the fraction you have, and some number over 100 is the fraction you want.
For the second problem, since 1.25 = 5/4, you can divide by 5/4 ( multiply by the inverse, 4/5) which gives you 80 without having to do long division.
Somebody taught me how to increase percentages in my head, but I guess I didn't learn it as well as HE knew it.
He never got it wrong; he would add up our grocery bill faster than the cashier entered it into the computer. It was SO not like anything I'D ever seen.
Nobody in my family has a college degree and he was a Ph.D Medicinal Chemist. I was an EMT.

Sal: I actually work at Hedge fund, and I'm doing this type of math in my head day and night.
Me: Work where?
Sal: I just realized you probably don't know what a hedge fund is. I invest in stocks for a living.
Me: Ohhh.... (He just read my mind)

this didnt help me. can someone help me please? if i get a 2% cash back on $19.40. how much am i getting back?
uphill248 1 year ago
@uphill248 My friend, who's a stock broker, said you'll have $19.78.
He does it in his head faster than I can get the dang calculator to add it.
I don't exactly know how he came up w/ the answer, but $19.78 is the right answer.
I trust his calculations more than my own.

@uphill248 I'll have to get back to you. I don't know the formula; he does.
He used to be a banker, so he'll REALLY know that.
vickiormindyb 1 year ago
@vickiormindyb OK THANK YOU AGAIN.
uphill248 1 year ago
@uphill248 You take $19.40, the price of your purchases and multiply it by .02, so that it's 19.40 x .02 = 0.388.
You add 19.40 + 0.388 = 19.788. Round to the nearest penny and it's $19.79
Hope that helps.

Portfolio. THAT'S the word my friend used when he was talking about his clients and their hedge funds.
I still don't understand what hedge funds are.
He was a big help. He said 'Don't worry about them, you can't afford them anyway.'
I can STILL want to know what they are.

no 25% is not roughly 1/4, it is exactly 1/4

95/100=0.95
0.95*15=14.25
95+14.25=109.25

Instead of the way you calculated 15% of 95 you can do this:
95*1.15=109.25
Takes less place.

just divide 28/63 and it should give 0.44 which is 44%

I skip a step when doing this.
Rather than 95 + .15 * 95, I do 95 * 1.15. :)
Same with getting the original number, instead of going through all that Algebra, I just divide by 1.25.
100 / 1.25 = 80

Speaking of stocks, I was wondering if the U.S Mint could print more money to increase our dollar amount and decrease our credit crisis.
I don't know a lot about finances. The only course I took in college about it was called 'Introduction to Consumer Economics.'
I have no idea what finance has to do with Emergency Medicine, but I took the course since it was required.
vickiormindyb 3 years ago
that will only solve our short term problems. In the long run it will just increase inflation.
tmpelonis 2 years ago
@vickiormindyb that would cause a run up of inflation.
