Pingali Venkayya, the illustrious visionary, the designer of the national flag died, unhonoured on July 4, 1963, in conditions of poverty. It was only a few years ago that his daughter began to receive pension from the government. There is not even a memorial in his hometown Machilipatnam to the man who brought such glory to Andhra. Its astonishing how Rabindranath's composition takes more and more elegant form in western instruments, especially in ensembles. This song, as a composition is not his greatest. Still what an appeal!!! In all renditions of this song, it's unmatched beauty and love for the motherland and worship of the God - the savior of India - is too aparent and compelling to ignore.

yes brother, I'm an NRI. but the english version shocked me. i nvr dreamt that there can be such a beautiful Anthem. It unites all Indian from all over the world. Sir Rabindranath Tagore's composition is simply too great. We are all proud to sing it. I don't understand a word of hindi and this is the only hindi song that i can sing from start to end
