  • 3 weeks ago I had a WD2500JB with a bad circuit board. I bought a new board on ebay. All of the numbers matched except the DCM. After reading, I realized the U12 ROM chip needed to be swapped. I found this video referenced online and contacted the author, Sunny. He had me ship the two boards to China and swapped the chips for me. Shipping was about $30 each way and when I got it back, I was able to recover the data on my drive. Good job!

  • thanks for this great video, very informative! questions: what brand/model heat gun is that? also, is it not necessary to preheat the pcb for this kind of work?

    thanks again!!

  • hi,

normal solder station(hot air gun) will be fine. preheat few second on pcb.

  • I got a maxtor 160gb where one of the chips have burnt. Anyone know what i can do whith it?

  • hi,

please contact me by email. i will help you solve it out. thanks

  • Wow , you make it look so quick and simple!

    No solder is need?

I need to replace a WD harddrive and I have found an exact match with Model No.

    PCB No. and DCM No.

The fried HD was in an external drive that had no Operating system files on it but just used as a data storage device, would I still need to change the new ROM chip with the old one, or could I simply swap the PCB over?

    Thanks.

  • hi,

this operation do with hot air gun(solder station) no need to match pc,sn,dcm, hard drive modrel...match pcb model only. you had to replacemment rom chip if have. for newer drive replacement please contact me by email. i have special tools for them

  • temperature rate 280-480(celsius) air around 5. the point is air don't give(small parts will go away if air too more) and keep turn round above rom chip. any question please feel free to contact me by email. thanks.

  • hello, what temperature and what kind of heat gun use to change the

    chip?
