  • can you imagine what This would sound like if it were women instead of men?

  • Amazing, I have never heard anything like this :) Lovely!

  • They sound as if they are being led by one singer to progress upward in micro-tonal increments. Absolutely fascinating. I can't tell if they are progressing through each modal chord at each pitch level.

Is there a musicologist in the house? If so, please link me to a discussion of what's happening in this ritual.

    Thanks. debachl

  • @debachl Actually, the Pasibutbut has been well analyzed by Taiwanese ethnomusicologist Wu Run Shung. Some commercial recordings are quite interesting. Specially the one featured in the Gilles Léothaud, Bernard Lortat-Jacob and Than Quang Hai's "anthology of the voice" (I don't remember the exact title). This video is quite good exept for the girl introducing herself in the middle of the circle....

  • when I heard it 1st time, I felt like I'm about to enter a trance state or sth, just after one minute... it's incredible.
