Feds Spent $800,000 of Economic Stimulus on African Genital-Washing Program
Monday, September 13, 2010
By Matt Cover
(CNSNews.com) – The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.
I think both of them had valid points. 9/11 was a massive political gain for Al Qaeda, even though they are so hated, the reason being that it has brought a huge amount of focus on to US foreign policiy by countries and people all over the world. More and more people are discovering just how corrupt US politics is and how heartless and brutal conservative governments are in particular.
PM of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki loses an election to Secular party of Iyad Allawi. The poll results show that a growing number of Iraqis want a secular government as they are fed up with sectarian violence and too many religious people at the top of the Iraqi authority food chain.
Al-Maliki is refusing to step down but maintains full US Military backing to enforce Martial Law.
The Iraqis voted for a Sovereign Party to head a more Secular Government.
they're both right, arguing different aspects. violence during protests IS only a tool to achieve something, because if a protest isn't violent, it doesn't get on the news. and what better way to spread your message than by getting on the news?!
while cenk's points were all perfectly valid and he sounds well educated, it could also be that he's well rehearsed. pretty clear which way Ratigan leans. he's not a very objective interviewer.
TYT is insulting to anyone with half a brain. Just some guy in his 30s making stupid facial gestures at anything he doesn't like. Trying to convince uneducated kids his opinion is the "cool" one.
If Cenk aka TYT gets his own show on MSNBC he'd be a star, he just needs to get a shot and I bet he WILL blow up!! And I personally know about 35 people who would watch his show all the time.
@tennaj I believe that too. Cenk is the best!! Only problem I see is that with watching TYT on Livestation daily, I can't see him only gettkng one hour on MSNBC.. I'd think he'd need at least 2 hours.. MSNBC keeps on repeating their shows all night so a 2 hour show would work..
Being biased and being truthful are two completely different things. TYT is an opinion show, and liberal at that, of course they are going to be biased. But at least they state the facts as they are and then leave them up to their viewers to make up their own minds.
@nyxie23 for TYT to make it on tv, they need to sack ana. sorry but shes god awful. even if you like her you cant possibly expect america and its tv critics to like her
I agree that when the cameras are on, behavior changes, but it isn't always violent. Violence happens when a crowd is pushed to a certain point. It doesn't matter if anyone is taping it or not. Crowd violence almost always stems from a catalyst on either side. It is whoever "swings first". The problem really comes when the police are not well trained enough to stop the situation from escalating. It's difficult on both ends because emotions run high, but no one wants to take responsibility.

What exactly are Cenk's credentials that allow him to challenge Tom Aspell in regards to these questions? I realize everyone has an opinion and has the right to voice it, but what is the basis for him challenging a reporter that has actually been to these places and experienced the situation first-hand? This is downright absurd. The least MSNBC can do is balance the credentials of their talking heads. What next? Michael Moore vs Sanjay Gupta on health care? Oh wait that was already done, LOL.
Let me go ahead and rephrase what you've written, for clarity: "Okie I'm sorry, but"--oh, that's right, you didn't say that, but I bet you're the kind of twat who says 'I'm sorry but...' all the time, even tho you're never actually sorry--"but hwhut exactly is that dude doing challenging the god of knowledge Tom Aspell? O, that's ryt, I realize everyone has an uponion, but uhm, you know, it's just like, GOD, no one has credentials these days! LOL"
""but hwhut exactly is that dude doing challenging the god of knowledge Tom Aspell?"
I'm sorry, but I do not agree. Cenk was challenging Tom Aspell's opinion on the motivations of those who were protesting. Tom Aspell has been to these places and witnessed these events. That is what I was pointing out. I know it's easy to marginalize my opinion by assuming I believe Tom Aspell is some form of deity, but I do not. Tom Aspell has first-hand knowledge in this case. Cenk does not.
I've found it useful simply as a general principle just to agree with anyone who has a British accent rather than disagree. But I do see what Cenk is saying.
Hey glad you went on with Dylan Ratigan - he is the very best in news nowadays (besides you guys of course haha even though agree with you guys less than half the time)
the world is goin to hell. its more violent and crazy than its ever been. 50 years ago the world wasnt like this at all. a large part of it i think has more to do with radical islamic extremists and ppl like bin laden and organizations like al qaeda and the taliban. also we have more rogue nations in the world today than in any other time. iran, venezula, north korea, and so forth.
Okay, I see you're just talking about "post WWII".
Yet, I think that you overestimate the severity of islamic terrorism (as it is right now). From my subjective POV the world has become a much better place to live compared to 25 years ago. I live in Berlin. If in 1984 I went for a walk just a few miles from where I live now, I'd have been shot!! And today there's a nice bikeway. Similar stories could be told in many other countries in eastern Europe for example.
Well in places like America, of course it isnt as bad as other places. Also places like Britain, France, and Germany. I was mainly talking about the middle east, parts of Asia, Africa and South America. The middle east is by far the most violent though.
I agree that there are some pretty depressing vicious-circles of violence going on in the middle east that are fueled almost exclusively by religion.
But now we're down to a specific region in post WWII. That is a little different than your original choice of words: "world" and "ever" where I was immediately thinking of the inquisition, the Thirty Years' War, the Conquistadores, the American Civil War, and WWI+II and was like: WTF?! :)
No i said, parts of Africa, Asia, and South America as well. I did say however that the middle east was the most violent out of all of them. The well developed nations such as America, Great Britain, France, Germany and most of Europe dont experience the major violence like in the other countries. Also one i forgot to mention was Mexico. The drug cartel violence has gotten out of control over there.
Lets think about people who get rich from money laundering or drug dealing etc. They live in Beverly Hills but do their bad jobs in Compton/Watts/South-Central. If you think of it in international basis, Africa, Middle East or Eastern Parts of Turkey and North Iraq, are the playground for big drug dealers, arms dealers etc. That can explain. So this has nothing to do with religion. But about education hence income.
About Al-queida or Taliban, don't forget Charlie Wilson's weapon support to rebellions in Afghanistan against Soviet forces worth 250 million dollars. After the war against Soviet's have been won, there is no support from America for education or building hospitals etc. Only weapon support. You can watch the movie "Charlie Wilson's War".
I never said this had to do with religion. I was just naming the violent places in the world. ANd yes your right. People in those areas such as South America and Mexico are places for drug cartels and weapons dealers. But in Asia for instance, u have North Korea, a communist regime in which starves its own ppl and kills them. The middle east has Iran, which does pretty much the same but there President is just more insane. And u cant blame the U.S. for one mans actions but thats just my opinion.
You really got me wrong on that! I do not support any communist or sheria regime and I find them violent. I am not blaming any country or any specific person either. But there are different things going on in the world. The international strategies of most countries causes people to suffer and live with the lack of independence. And these are the countries including America.
Iran was in democratic regime with Shah Reza Pahlavi. There were no turbans or any black linens etc. However whenever english SIS gone into business, he was replaced with the sheria regime. Regional Cooperation for Development b/w Turkey, Iran and Pakistan (and Afghanistan later) was collapsed. There is no ground for development and education for people in these areas, since it is the playground (you know what I mean)...
Yes i understand what your saying. The only way these ppl who live in these areas can live normal lives like we live is if the regimes in power are overthrown either by another country like us or the ppl themselves and they establish a new republic and put ppl in charge that actually care about the well-being of the ppl they serve and a Constitution that limits power to the federal government like we have and gives more power to the ppl. But that seems like a longshot from here.
Come on cenk the guy asked you if you agree with the other guy and you said no but then the next time you spoke you basically reafemed the guys idea that you just disagreed with.
He last statement was that tecnology would help us to know whats going on, help those people on showing whats happening. Tecnology, as Cenk said in the beginning, wouldn't make a REASON to go to streets and fight.
He was saying he didn't agree with the other correspondants point of view of the protests of Iraq and their fighting...granted Cenk confused Iran with Iraq, he went on to generally agree with him...I think he got ahead of himself because he thought his comments were on Iran not Iraq. Cenk didn't seem to get alot of time on this issue in my opinion
i would argue that the host presented the argument in a more general matter...i.e. is there more violence around the world...if the first speaker chose to talk about irak to debate his point so be it..but cenk doesnt have to counter argue irak in any way.
people are tired of the crap that the powerful do against em .. they figure they don't have any other recourse but violence .. the arms dealers make weapons available to everyone in the world ..that way there can be more wars and violence to sell more weapons
What are you talking about??? I didn`t say thatCenk was from Kazakhstan, i was talking to the guy that was above me who called the show "The young turds" go down and look
Oh ok lol. I see you are from Kazakhstan lol. I hope you don`t think i have something against your country or anything, but he made me angry. SALAM/Peace from Iraq
That first guy looks liek eh got puched in the face...besides the world has always been violent...all the ancient wars biblical and non-biblical....publicity isnt always teh reason as far conquerers vs. the oppressed.
oh, HELLS, no! put them on MSNBC - where their subject matter has an OBVIOUS home - preferably in rotation with Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow! GREAT FIT for the progressive news trifecta!
and PLEASE BUMP THAT effin farmer ED SHOW BULL$#!+! he makee me sleeeeeepy..at..(yawn)..6..freakin.. PM..ZZZ!
or even Chris Matthews! with that UNGODLY amount of spit in his mouth??? SAY it, potato boy, don't SPRAY it! Go garglee with Baileeees! TYT rules!
Not all African-Americans more routing for the rioters in LA 92. I hope the Han can find peace that only a small minority of Uygurs are violently destructively and even fewer for personal reasons.
And I was also sorry for that reasonable and experienced journalist who had to put up with Cenk's confrontational tone. They were actually agreeing, and the other guy seemed a lot more balanced, informed and coherent.
It's also laughable to compare a real journalist, speaking from Baghdad, with a blogger who leeches off of those real journalists' field work and also talks about Hollywood gossip on YouTube.
He graduated from prestigious schools and was a lawyer, yet you pretend he's a high school drop-out living in his mom's basement.
That's the sign of someone who can't back up his/her claims. Especially since you try to discredit him because he spends a portion of his show discussing entertainment/pop culture. This despite the fact that respected commentators like Rachel Maddow do the same a the end of their shows, i.e. they have a light hearted segment after the substantive issues.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You kept changing the topic and childishly thumbing down my comments, and now you're giving up on the debate, and it's _me_ who can't back up my claims?
By the way, FOX News is the most watched cable news network in the U.S., so it's a fact that a great deal of people respect them - even if those people are mostly racist farmers.
Look...Cenk is a great American guy who has some great opinions. He may be a liberal but couldn't Fox News use a little more balance now that Alan Colmes is gone? I think it wouldn't hurt!
I don't think you understand... Fox would be lucky to have Cenk, but I don't think in a million years he would accept the job. If you have ever watched the Young Turks you would know he constantly slams on Fox News. If he does go with a news station the last place it would be is Fox News.
Well I'm sorry I don't watch every single TYT video. I watch the ones that interest me so I didn't know that he slammed Fox News in every one. At least the 10 episodes or so that I watched he didn't do that. I'm just saying I WOULDN'T CARE IF HE CHOSE FOX NEWS. I'm not saying he will. So calm down there tiger.
forget spy satellites. We should put a massive comm sat array DIRECTLY over North Korea with NO access restrictions and then airdrop MILLIONS of rugged solar-battery powered Internet devices equipped with cameras and Korean instruction manuals. it would be fucking epic.
I think its the awareness that these things ARE shown to the world to see that gives people the courage to fight back against tyranny that would have here to fore just eradicated them sans witness. There is strength in awareness and witness. Ya cant just wipe out a "nuisance" with the world watching - thank goodness
Why the hell would you cut the video short like that. The Young Turks have been doing that with all their videos lately and I kind of understand it but it's kind of annoying at the same time.
What bothers me about this reporting is that our media is selective on what to report concerning protesting, just like are own protesters in the U.S. are portrayed as crazy, or illogical people, who not report on the protesting my "WE ARE CHANGE', the Cuban Five, and the protest in Georgia, to the Gaza' bombing by Isreal. my comments were deleted mentioning this why....
Chinese citizens need to organize and fight like spartans, those poor people are so oppressed by their regime/government. Every human has what I call "living rights" the right to control your own body and mind. China, Iran, NK, go through the list of countries whos citizens are living in fear. Its so depressing, I have it so good here in Oregon in comparison, I could just as well be born their, and live that life.
he did mention that in another video (when those uighur were in guat. bay). He did say they were related to the one's in turkey...not really sure though what he exactly said
I agree with Cenk here, if we look back on history, we see plenty of examples of surprisingly fast escalation of violence - such as the Boxer uprising.
Thank goodness Cenk brought the discussion back out of crazy-talk from Mr. Aspell who sounds like he's suggesting violent protest is the means necessary to get an audience and bring in outside help.
Let's remind people that they can be peaceful but keep the media there to document the progress just in case something terrible occurs and someone needs to intervene.

Come on cenk the guy asked you if you agree with the other guy and you said no but then the next time you spoke you basically reafemed the guys idea that you just disagreed with.
upplsuckimcool16 2 years ago
No.
He last statement was that tecnology would help us to know whats going on, help those people on showing whats happening. Tecnology, as Cenk said in the beginning, wouldn't make a REASON to go to streets and fight.
Those are two different ideas.
Lekeeon 2 years ago 6
He was saying he didn't agree with the other correspondants point of view of the protests of Iraq and their fighting...granted Cenk confused Iran with Iraq, he went on to generally agree with him...I think he got ahead of himself because he thought his comments were on Iran not Iraq. Cenk didn't seem to get alot of time on this issue in my opinion
seattle8686 2 years ago
i would argue that the host presented the argument in a more general matter...i.e. is there more violence around the world...if the first speaker chose to talk about irak to debate his point so be it..but cenk doesnt have to counter argue irak in any way.
restlys 2 years ago
people are tired of the crap that the powerful do against em .. they figure they don't have any other recourse but violence .. the arms dealers make weapons available to everyone in the world ..that way there can be more wars and violence to sell more weapons

Oh geeze,
This idiot wants a show? A SHOW ON EVERY WEEK DAY ON A MAJOR CABLE NEWS NETWORK?
Well, it IS MSNBC so I guess there's no way he can really drive their ratings down any further...right? RIGHT?!

Thanks, that's a great compliment! Glad to hear a fan of the show weigh in, keep it up.

Is that a serious question? "Has the world become more violent?"
Compared to x number of years ago, we have:
MANY More people
More destructive weapons
Great interaction of ideas, leading to rapid synthesis of new (sometimes destructive) ideas
Greater interaction between peoples of differing culture, ethnicity, race and (notably) religion.
And while it cannot be measured, the general entropy of the universe
And yes, finally, we see violence more because of the media.
Such a stupid question...

Not all African-Americans more routing for the rioters in LA 92. I hope the Han can find peace that only a small minority of Uygurs are violently destructively and even fewer for personal reasons.

Cenk is quite poorly informed on the Xingjiang roit issue.
As a TYT subscriber I am a bit disappointed.
catherineweiwei 2 years ago
Me too.
And I was also sorry for that reasonable and experienced journalist who had to put up with Cenk's confrontational tone. They were actually agreeing, and the other guy seemed a lot more balanced, informed and coherent.
formerlyknownasAnn 2 years ago
I feel sorry that people believe the corporate, ratings driven media is more "balanced, informed and coherent".
It's laughable really.
Encyclopeteia 2 years ago 3
It's also laughable to compare a real journalist, speaking from Baghdad, with a blogger who leeches off of those real journalists' field work and also talks about Hollywood gossip on YouTube.
formerlyknownasAnn 2 years ago
He graduated from prestigious schools and was a lawyer, yet you pretend he's a high school drop-out living in his mom's basement.
That's the sign of someone who can't back up his/her claims. Especially since you try to discredit him because he spends a portion of his show discussing entertainment/pop culture. This despite the fact that respected commentators like Rachel Maddow do the same a the end of their shows, i.e. they have a light hearted segment after the substantive issues.
Encyclopeteia 2 years ago
As if graduating from a prestigious school proved you're good at something...
Rachel Maddow is respected by _some_, and so is Sean Hannity.
formerlyknownasAnn 2 years ago
Thank you for discrediting yourself further with the Sean Hannity comparison, I really appreciate it!
That is all.

You kept changing the topic and childishly thumbing down my comments, and now you're giving up on the debate, and it's _me_ who can't back up my claims?
By the way, FOX News is the most watched cable news network in the U.S., so it's a fact that a great deal of people respect them - even if those people are mostly racist farmers.
formerlyknownasAnn 2 years ago
Who says I'm rating your comments? You made a generic claim and awarded unwarranted and automatic respect for one pundit over another.
You gave no specific examples or sources to support your opinion. When pressed you resorted to ad hominem attacks against Cenk.

Have you ever watched the young turks. Cenk hates Fox News... do you even know who the guy is?
faustocarmonafan 2 years ago 5
Look...Cenk is a great American guy who has some great opinions. He may be a liberal but couldn't Fox News use a little more balance now that Alan Colmes is gone? I think it wouldn't hurt!
AmeriKenny 2 years ago
I don't think you understand... Fox would be lucky to have Cenk, but I don't think in a million years he would accept the job. If you have ever watched the Young Turks you would know he constantly slams on Fox News. If he does go with a news station the last place it would be is Fox News.
faustocarmonafan 2 years ago
Well I'm sorry I don't watch every single TYT video. I watch the ones that interest me so I didn't know that he slammed Fox News in every one. At least the 10 episodes or so that I watched he didn't do that. I'm just saying I WOULDN'T CARE IF HE CHOSE FOX NEWS. I'm not saying he will. So calm down there tiger.
