Though Eddy's voice actor (Tony Sampson) did do a voice in the original Seed series. He voiced a ZAFT pilot called Miguel, who was a friend of Athrun's. He was the first ever person Kira killed.

I would say it is a combination of Shinn's skill as a pilot and the impulse being one of the worst possible opponents for kira. Because it still takes skill to bring out a mobile suits full potential and push it to it's limits. That would be my take on the battle between kira and shinn
I think Shinn serves as an alternate Kira. Like what kind of person would Kira have become if the Archangel crew would be like the Minerva crew? Well they do have different personalities, that should also be taken into consideration. However, the Archangel goes rougue after losing trust in the Federation but the Minerva fights till the bitter end. It's up to us to decide whether Kira or Shinn are a product of what crew they were with.
With Kira being the ultimate coordinator, Kira may have become like Rau some say. Given in to his bloodlust and hatred of Athrun without Lacus' reasoning and Athrun would have died fighting Kira.

Furthermore, watch Episode 43. Shinn took Athrun head on using his Wings of Light, which supposedly allows his mobile suit acceleration surpassing any other mobile suit, and STILL lost to Athrun. Athrun was injured btw.

You using Shinn's so called mental breakdown sounds like a lame excuse to me. He was only hallucinating towards the end and even then it did not show that it affected his performance in anyway. Shinn has always relied on his anger as a source of his fighting ability which is no different than when he fought Athrun. He tried taking Athrun head on and lost, simple. Facts are: Kira has fought tougher battles than Shinn ever has and Kira has NEVER got punked by Athrun multiple times. Sad right?

Like I said, IT WASN'T JUST HALLUCINATIONS, Shinn also had a "Mental Breakdown" which was very prominent during the whole battle against Athrun, and maybe even before the battle started considering how many Mind struggles Shinn faced during episode 48 and 49. I even gave you a small summary of their fight.
Shinn was sweating a river, and him being confused about everything, he can't even shoot straight(he was spamming a lot of blasts and he can't hit a NON-MOVING IJ), and he touched the beam sabers instead of using the "conveniently-placed beam shields on the back of Destiny's hands", and he apparently lost it when Athrun shouted "You're destroying the future!", and the most obvious, the hallucinations of Mayu, Stella and freedom.
Yup, that was a loss. Athrun goes SEED mode already down an arm, and the only thing Kira can do after that is to take off the Aegis's head.
Athrun, during that same timespan, hacks off the left hand of the Strike, rips open a gash over the cockpit, wraps himself around the Strike with the Aegis's MA mode and was a second away from hitting Kira with a Scylla cannon to the face. That's not a draw, no matter how you slice it.
@MilliardoPeacecraftX I think I read somewhere that Athrun had the most powerful SEED, which I agree. In battles with Kira and Shinn, he went SEED mode after those two and beat them both with little problem... of course it is all speculation, since there is so many variables, but that is what makes good Animes. Boundless speculation of fans.

Actually at the Second Invasion of Orb Kira was outclassing Shinn if it weren't for interference from Ray Kira would have disabled the Destiny. The only real reason Shinn originally defeated Kira was because he had infinite spare parts and got a heads up from Ray about how to take advantage of Kiras fighting style. If Shinn couldnt swap out damaged parts he would have never defeated Kira.
What you're missing is that Shinn takes that aggressive charge with the palma fioca and gets kicked in the face, Kira leaves his back open and is knocked off balance by Legend. Shinn can take a risky attack like that because he knows he has backup. Getting kicked by SF doesn't matter as Legend won't give SF the opening. Kira neglects Legend and because of this, is knocked off balance. Had Legend not been there, perhaps Shinn would not have made that risky attack at that point.
Plus, During the 2-VS-1 Shinn wasn't in SEED mode, while Kira was, in fact, using SEED mode, and Kira would be killed if Athrun didn't save him during that particular moment.
If Shinn couldn't change parts, then he wouldn't be a risk taker like he was before, he wouldn't really take advantage of something he doesn't even have, like changing parts.

However, Shinn was not only given the shock of his life (OMG IT CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD) he also had to deal having to fight Orb forces. As for his first victory, I wouldn't call making use of your own resources cheating. If Kira didn't take him seriously, that was his failing as an MS pilot.

Should I repeat myself? You cannot choreograph a fight. Rey did not tell Shinn to reflect his beam off of his shield. Rey did not tell Shinn to use the damaged Chest Flyer and Force Silhouette as weapons to keep Kira away from him while he linked up. Rey didn't tell Shinn to split the Impulse when Kira takes a cockpit shot. Rey didn't tell Shinn to use to boomerang to make Kira turn around when Kira's running away.
I suggest watching episode 42. After going SEED mode, Shinn off-handedly pushed Kira back with just his beam rifle, while Kira had TWO Beam rifles AND MOAR, Kira can't even get the upperhand AND HE HAD THE ADVANTAGE.
Shinn struggled to shoot the Freedom while Kira was easily defending against all of Shinn's shots, seen through Shinn saying "why won't he go down!?". Kira's goal was not to destroy the Destiny, but prevent it from attacking Orb.
Athrun did not even use SEED mode until the very end when he destroyed the Destiny. Even if Shinn was hallucinating, it should not have affected his skills to the extend of having been taken down so easily within the few seconds after Athrun activated SEED mode.
Then perhaps the fact that Kira, who winds up with almost every single advantage over Shin (surprise, psychological shock, freshly-equipped weaponry, seeing how Shinn is lacking some weapons...) in their second fight (episode 42)... and still couldn't come close to winning it?

You're exaggerating Kira's achievements, I can remember the only one who is fighting Kira was Yzak, while Nicol always attacks the AA and Dearka always fights Mu, and Athrun was obviously pulling his punches.

If Kira got that hit in Shinn would have lived,because a cockpit is on the chest area and not the waist,and slashing the head is also not fatal.Kira broke apart Impulse's arm and head,and Shinn only had to ditch those parts and send them at Kira.Shinn does good by knowing where the Freedom will attack and only have avoid it barely,plus I enjoyed his shield reflect shot.

Yes We know Shinn would fight differently,like in the Destiny(Shinn really didn't do anything awesome in the Destiny)...It was stated before the battle Kira aims only at parts,the camera and weapons.(so he has a good idea and doesn't have to dodge excessively).
Shinn trained for the alloted time, until Rey came into their room and said that "Freedom attacks the Weapons and the Main camera ", Rey never states that Freedom attacks the limbs a well, so no.
And like I said, a battle CAN'T BE CHOREOGRAPHED, Shinn never knew what Kira would do first since during combat a lot of things can change and it's unpredictable unless you can see the future, Rey never said to Shinn to use the shield as a mirror to redirect the beam during that particular moment.

Minerva and Vesalius class-ship was attacking the AA, and Kira was trying to get back, but Shinn is always blocking his path, so the most obvious solution is to take Shinn out. Kira even acknowledged Shinn's abilities by turning around and try attacking Shinn again, but all he got was chest flyer flying at him.

plp have to realize that kira is not the one who aims at the cameras its the hi-mat system which provides automatic aim for kira.thats y every time you see kira use burst mode with freedom the system aims for the cameras.

Um...i dunno why some people keep saying that Freedom was superior to the Impulse.
There are a few facts that don't fit well with that theory:
1. Impulse was built after ZAFT had built Freedom some time ago.
2. Impulse can separate and change body parts, Freedom can't do that.
I guess in terms of raw beam firepower, Freedom does seem to have an edge, but Impulse seems to be a very formidable MS as well, especially when it comes to pilot safety, flexibility and versatility
Freedom is better,Impulse is basically a modified Strike.I don't think its equipped with an N-Jammer Canceller(wtf),because Shinn needed to recharge that one time and Kira never did.Kira can't kill Shinn(or anyone else).Shinn can't kill Kira(I don't think anyone can kill Kira,unless the Wing Gundam showed up)
N-Jam Canceler allows Freedom to use Nuclear power, thus operate longer.
In other words, the NJ Canceler helps Freedom to do it all night long, but that doesn't make it "thrust" harder, u know what i mean?
And heck no, Impulse is NOT a modified Strike. Thats like saying ZZ gundam is a modified MKII; or to the non-UC gundam people: that's like saying...owait...i dun have an example, hahaha
Yeah Shinn played that like a gamer and basically watched a youtube walkthrough on the Freedoms moves.Shinn knew where Kira was gonna attack so dodging was easy,plus if he lost parts he could replace them,Kira aims only at parts or the camera(stated by Rey).And really the whole Stella thing was partly Shinn's fault,he gave her back to a guy with a mask on(never trust the mask),plus he himself broke apart Stella's cockpit(it could have blown up any minute).
When?Directly after Athrun beats him down in the final ep?Or in a few years after we stop caring...Well I love Shinn's skills and all(mainly cause he's more melee than Kira),but really he doesn't do anything awesome after taking down Freedom(unless you count taking down Athrun in a Gouf or beating Cagali?)

Furthermore, watch Episode 43. Shinn took Athrun head on using his Wings of Light, which supposedly allows his mobile suit acceleration surpassing any other mobile suit, and STILL lost to Athrun. Athrun was injured btw.

You using Shinn's so called mental breakdown sounds like a lame excuse to me. He was only hallucinating towards the end and even then it did not show that it affected his performance in anyway. Shinn has always relied on his anger as a source of his fighting ability which is no different than when he fought Athrun. He tried taking Athrun head on and lost, simple. Facts are: Kira has fought tougher battles than Shinn ever has and Kira has NEVER got punked by Athrun multiple times. Sad right?

Yup, that was a loss. Athrun goes SEED mode already down an arm, and the only thing Kira can do after that is to take off the Aegis's head.
Athrun, during that same timespan, hacks off the left hand of the Strike, rips open a gash over the cockpit, wraps himself around the Strike with the Aegis's MA mode and was a second away from hitting Kira with a Scylla cannon to the face. That's not a draw, no matter how you slice it.

In battles with Kira and Shinn, he went SEED mode after those two and beat them both with little problem... of course it is all speculation, since there is so many variables, but that is what makes good Animes. Actually at the Second Invasion of Orb Kira was outclassing Shinn if it weren't for interference from Ray Kira would have disabled the Destiny. The only real reason Shinn originally defeated Kira was because he had infinite spare parts and got a heads up from Ray about how to take advantage of Kiras fighting style. If Shinn couldnt swap out damaged parts he would have never defeated Kira.

What you're missing is that Shinn takes that aggressive charge with the palma fioca and gets kicked in the face, Kira leaves his back open and is knocked off balance by Legend. Shinn can take a risky attack like that because he knows he has backup. Getting kicked by SF doesn't matter as Legend won't give SF the opening. Kira neglects Legend and because of this, is knocked off balance. Had Legend not been there, perhaps Shinn would not have made that risky attack at that point.

Plus, During the 2-VS-1 Shinn wasn't in SEED mode, while Kira was, in fact, using SEED mode, and Kira would be killed if Athrun didn't save him during that particular moment.
If Shinn couldn't change parts, then he wouldn't be a risk taker like he was before, he wouldn't really take advantage of something he doesn't even have, like changing parts.

@animeownage86 I'm sorry, but I beg to differ. In the Battle of Orb, yes, Shinn lost to Kira. However, Shinn was not only given the shock of his life (OMG IT CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD) he also had to deal having to fight Orb forces. He might SEEM to hate it, but deep down he was still the anguished idiot from episode 1.
As for his first victory, I wouldn't call making use of your own resources cheating. If Kira didn't take him seriously, that was his failing as an MS pilot.

There arent many reasons why someone like that should lose a fight and even though he had more parts it was fair because the Freedom was supposed to be better.

I think the reason Kira got owned so bad is because he did not expect Shinn to have improved so much after their last encounter, especially with Shinn simulating fights against the Freedom and receiving tips from Rey prior to their battle. In terms of skills and experience though, Kira is definitely the better pilot throughout the entire series.

Should I repeat myself? You cannot choreograph a fight. Rey did not tell Shinn to reflect his beam off of his shield. Rey did not tell Shinn to use the damaged Chest Flyer and Force Silhouette as weapons to keep Kira away from him while he linked up. Rey didn't tell Shinn to split the Impulse when Kira takes a cockpit shot. Rey didn't tell Shinn to use to boomerang to make Kira turn around when Kira's running away.

I suggest watching episode 42. After going SEED mode, Shinn off-handedly pushed Kira back with just his beam rifle, while Kira had TWO Beam rifles AND MOAR, Kira can't even get the upperhand AND HE HAD THE ADVANTAGE.

Athrun did not even use SEED mode until the very end when he destroyed the Destiny. Even if Shinn was hallucinating, it should not have affected his skills to the extend of having been taken down so easily within the few seconds after Athrun activated SEED mode.

Protecting the AA = taking out Impulse.... Impulse is a direct threat to Kira's mission. Hence Kira's goal is still to take out the Impulse...Precisely why early on in the fight Kira wasn't running away and was trying to take the fight to Shinn albeit miserably.

I agree w/ mil here, Destiny isn't the only MS attacking Orb, there's a whole army, there was no reason for Kira to waste his time w/ Shinn, which gives us an idea that Kira wasn't playing Shinn. Plus, we get a close-up of Kira's face, and he's struggling

I disagree. Shinn only defeated Kira because Shinn went all out, knowing Kira would NOT kill him. Shinn wanted blood and had more will to win the battle than Kira; as we know Kira is hesitant about fighting and this may or not affect him fighting at 100%. I believe Kira is proven to be better as it took Shinn and Ray in their suits to even worry the Freedom. Remember Kira has defended against 4 OTHER gundams, a feat I doubt Shinn could even do.

You're exaggerating Kira's achievements, I can remember the only one who is fighting Kira was Yzak, while Nicol always attacks the AA and Dearka always fights Mu, and Athrun was obviously pulling his punches.

then when kira was into much pressure against shinn he started going for the kill when he try to slice shinn in half but shinn quicklfy separates the impulse then kira completely misses his slash thus getting shot in the back quickly by shinn.also you could see a last ditch effort by kira when shinn stabs him with the big sword,kira stabs the impulse head.

If Kira got that hit in Shinn would have lived,because a cockpit is on the chest area and not the waist,and slashing the head is also not fatal.Kira broke apart Impulse's arm and head,and Shinn only had to ditch those parts and send them at Kira.Shinn does good by knowing where the Freedom will attack and only have avoid it barely,plus I enjoyed his shield reflect shot.

What I meant by barely is that since he knew where he was going to attack,he didn't have to evade to much.(like doing a barrel roll when all you needed to do was move one step to the left)Avoidng like that gave Shinn a lot more time to counter.I'm more suprised Kira actually got a hit off,and one that would have him win if the Impulse couldn't change parts.

A battle can't choreographed, Shinn never knew where Kira would attack, it took pure skill to dodge Kira's shots, yet Shinn did it w/ ease.
If Impulse couldn't change parts then Shinn would have fought differently, he wouldn't be as reckless as he was if he can't change parts, but if Shinn can change parts(which he can), he would use it to his full advantage and use it to his full potential.

Shinn trained for the alloted time, until Rey came into their room and said that "Freedom attacks the Weapons and the Main camera ", Rey never states that Freedom attacks the limbs a well, so no.
And like I said, a battle CAN'T BE CHOREOGRAPHED, Shinn never knew what Kira would do first since during combat a lot of things can change and it's unpredictable unless you can see the future, Rey never said to Shinn to use the shield as a mirror to redirect the beam during that particular moment.

Minerva and Vesalius class-ship was attacking the AA, and Kira was trying to get back, but Shinn is always blocking his path, so the most obvious solution is to take Shinn out. Kira even acknowledged Shinn's abilities by turning around and try attacking Shinn again, but all he got was chest flyer flying at him.

Really Kira said that the Arch Angel should leave him meaning he was there to fight.
He wasn't trying to get back to the AA, he was trying to run away from Shinn.

Was Kira in SEED mode obviously giving it his best effort? Yes? Did Kira take swings at Shinn's cockpit despite his MO being not kill? Yes. Kira was fighting his best, simply because he disarms instead of kills doesn't change the fact he's fighting at his peak.

A "plan" that consisted entirely of "dodge whatever he shoots at you" is hardly a strategic masterpiece. You cannot choreograph a fight. Rey did not tell Shinn to reflect his beam off of his shield. Rey did not tell Shinn to use the damaged Chest Flyer and Force Silhouette as weapons to keep Kira away from him while he linked up. Rey didn't tell Shinn to split the Impulse when Kira takes a cockpit shot. Rey didn't tell Shinn to use to boomerang to make Kira turn around when Kira's running away.

the Impulses cockpit is slightly above the waist, so it would have been fatal

plp have to realize that kira is not the one who aims at the cameras its the hi-mat system which provides automatic aim for kira.thats y every time you see kira use burst mode with freedom the system aims for the cameras.

Shinn actually has the potential to become the greatest Gundam pilot in GSD... But as of now, Athrun and Kira are better.

@kira2581 nope wrong kira was defeated by shinn in the impulse a suit far inferior to the freedom.shinn studied kiras movements thus beating him and even surprising kira.

what about the fact that Kira also had to cover for the Archangel. still did'nt even try to kill him either. Shinn was in SEED mode but a crazy one.

Um...i dunno why some people keep saying that Freedom was superior to the Impulse.
There are a few facts that don't fit well with that theory:
1. Impulse was built after ZAFT had built Freedom some time ago.
2. Impulse can separate and change body parts, Freedom can't do that.
I guess in terms of raw beam firepower, Freedom does seem to have an edge, but Impulse seems to be a very formidable MS as well, especially when it comes to pilot safety, flexibility and versatility

Freedom is better,Impulse is basically a modified Strike.I don't think its equipped with an N-Jammer Canceller(wtf),because Shinn needed to recharge that one time and Kira never did.Kira can't kill Shinn(or anyone else).Shinn can't kill Kira(I don't think anyone can kill Kira,unless the Wing Gundam showed up)

N-Jam Canceler allows Freedom to use Nuclear power, thus operate longer.
In other words, the NJ Canceler helps Freedom to do it all night long, but that doesn't make it "thrust" harder, u know what i mean?
And heck no, Impulse is NOT a modified Strike. Thats like saying ZZ gundam is a modified MKII; or to the non-UC gundam people: that's like saying...owait...i dun have an example, hahaha

Yeah Shinn played that like a gamer and basically watched a youtube walkthrough on the Freedoms moves.Shinn knew where Kira was gonna attack so dodging was easy,plus if he lost parts he could replace them,Kira aims only at parts or the camera(stated by Rey).And really the whole Stella thing was partly Shinn's fault,he gave her back to a guy with a mask on(never trust the mask),plus he himself broke apart Stella's cockpit(it could have blown up any minute).

When?Directly after Athrun beats him down in the final ep?Or in a few years after we stop caring...Well I love Shinn's skills and all(mainly cause he's more melee than Kira),but really he doesn't do anything awesome after taking down Freedom(unless you count taking down Athrun in a Gouf or beating Cagali?)
