Well actually, the AH-1Z is more fitting for the Navy/Marines because it is more designed to handle waterborne operations. It is smaller and has easier capability landing on ship decks and other coastal facilities.
@TheRidersChoice The new "Viper" makes use of the Apache Longbow combat suite. It's better then the previous model, but probably on par with an Apache. What makes the Viper better (in my opinion), is a proven airframe and it's 85% commonality with the UH-1 Venom. That eases logistical and maintenance concerns.

Mi-24 has proven itself time and time again. Mi-24 also can carry 5 troops as an assault platform unlike our Apaches which are attack birds. They are not even the same class. Im not bastardizing the Apache, but dont mention an aircraft which isnt in the same class. The Ka-52 and Mi-28 are very good, but your right, not enough numbers.

The hind is a good helicopter, just not when it comes to modern combat. old electronics, to easy to shoot down with guided weapons. sure it is rugged as hell. and can stand against firearms. but it is irrelevant when you will nomarlly take down helicopters with guided AA weapons
The Hind was also updated to Modern Systems. It has countermeasure (Artem ASO-2W) also against IR "SOEP-W1A Lipa" Every Helicopter is an easy target for Anti Air missles since they aren't as fast as a plane. But the Hind is more protected then the Apache. Also the Hind can be used for Troop Transport, the Apache can't. So the Hind is an Gunship and a Tansport Helicopter in one.

Hind (335 km/h) is faster then the Apache (293 km/h) , can carry troops, has more weapons, better armor and equal if not better protection. Also the Hind has a better range 750km against the Apaches 450km) So i think the Hind is more deadly then the Apache.

Well actually, the AH-1Z is more fitting for the Navy/Marines because it is more designed to handle waterborne operations. It is smaller and has easier capability landing on ship decks and other coastal facilities.
But the AH-64D is the best Gunship.

@TheRidersChoice The new "Viper" makes use of the Apache Longbow combat suite. It's better then the previous model, but probably on par with an Apache. What makes the Viper better (in my opinion), is a proven airframe and it's 85% commonality with the UH-1 Venom. That eases logistical and maintenance concerns.

Mi-24 has proven itself time and time again. Mi-24 also can carry 5 troops as an assault platform unlike our Apaches which are attack birds. They are not even the same class. Im not bastardizing the Apache, but dont mention an aircraft which isnt in the same class. The Ka-52 and Mi-28 are very good, but your right, not enough numbers.

The hind is a good helicopter, just not when it comes to modern combat. old electronics, to easy to shoot down with guided weapons. sure it is rugged as hell. and can stand against firearms. but it is irrelevant when you will nomarlly take down helicopters with guided AA weapons

The Hind was also updated to Modern Systems. It has countermeasure (Artem ASO-2W) also against IR "SOEP-W1A Lipa" Every Helicopter is an easy target for Anti Air missles since they aren't as fast as a plane. But the Hind is more protected then the Apache. Also the Hind can be used for Troop Transport, the Apache can't. So the Hind is an Gunship and a Tansport Helicopter in one.

The hind can take more pounding, but the Apache has the preventive defence, such as IR-reducing features, ECM, Flares, Noise reducion, and a small body.

yeah, but look at the difference between the third and the fourth largest army. Then take into consideration that the flat south is the helicopter equivalent of a firing range. In karbala, tanks in hilly terrain set up flak traps using their guns, and the apaches went away empty handed.
At ATGM range, the difference in size is meaningless. Same with all the others except ECM.

M4 shermans In 67 had - new optics, new guns, new engines, new radios, and new ammunition as well as proficient crews. They were "new", as well as on the defense.

The hind was sucessfully operated in afghanistan even after stingers were deployed - two years were bad, but after that Russians applied IR suppression, flares and new tactics. Result was that hind losses became near nil. Read about the soviet combined armed results in afghanistan.
By the way - several US choppers were downed with RPG-7s. That's pathetic, and makes the US Army aviators look like a bunch loosers if they can't even evade an old unguided anti-tank weapon.

US apache pilots repeatedly during deployment to albania in 1999 did a CFT. That is NOT an indication of profesionality; in fact, that's real poor performance even for a third world military.
Destroyed targets is not a valid comparison unless you state how many targets were presented; in the case of Russian choppers, they never faced armored units. The world saw the hind return to base with significant battle damage that would destroy the apache, such as shot of tail rotors(!!!)

As far as helicopters killing armor/combatants in real conflict or war, it actually is THE deadliest helicopter in the world... The russian choppers mowing down thousands of civilians during the cold war doesn't count...
