Great tune! Thanks for posting it... and sorry for the poor couillon below who "CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF" my home state of Louisiana. I can't wait to go back home, me.
Born, bred and crawfish fed..... Redbone girl from my toes to my head. I grew up on this stuff and I would not have it any other way. We good people...
This song was a staple on the jukebox at every cafe in South Louisiana in the 60s. Every time we took a coffee break you could count on somebody punching up Mathilda!

Wow, I have always been interested in Louisiana culture, including music and how the people live there. I listened to this out of sheer curiosity, and it really wasnt that bad, i actually like it. I guess in this case, curiosity didnt kill the cat. >.<
GREW UP LISTENING TO THIS SONG I REMEMBER TELLING MY SISTER IF SHE THOUGHT THERE COULD EVER BE A BETTER SONG IN THE FUTURE THAN THIS WE LIVED IN SAN ANTONIO TEXAS IF ONLY WE COULD BRING THIS TIMES BACK WHAT I WOULD GIVE
In the front seat of a a convertible...1963...hot & heavy loving...this song playing ...love said " If they play again, I'll have to give in" ....you talk about a dude "pushing buttons" ..lol!
Oh boy, wish my husband was still the romantic boy he was in the 60's. We danced on many old gravel roads to this one. This was and still is "Our Song" Love ya Cookie.
Forty odd years ago my brother had a band and this was their most requested song!! Many wonderful memories listening to them praticing in our living room on Saturdays. Oh my heart is happy to hear this again after all these years!! Bless you for positing this song and thank you! I am Southern born and raised and proud of it.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember wearing out my first 45 RPM copy, and had to buy another. I think it was not a smash hit because (1) It was too long in an era when 2 minute songs ruled and (2) black artists did not get the air play they deserved. What do you think?
this the type of music that will live for a long time to come, this is the song that put louisiana on the map for swamp pop music, also made louisiana famous for it's blend of cajun french, blues, country, swamp pop,r&b music. but it's cookie and the cupcakes that made people proud to be born in louisiana. i like this mathilda because it brings back good memories of girls you liked in school.
when i was under 21 and sneaking into clubs, with my friends, this is one of the first songs,i danced to.Every time the band played this song i was on the floor.great memories!
Can see where got some of their influence...
Good stuff
