this tank is similar to mine i have 2 convicts as well and a yellow lab, one of the yellow ones with the black stripes all the way down them and a purple one with vertical stripes like yours

females have orange on their bellies, especially during breeding, and i think males sometimes grow small humps on their forheads-like frontosas

i will never get a pair ever again. they terrorised my tank then the babies ended up dieing and all 6 out of 7 convicts got ick from the stress. Now I only have one and its a male.

lol...they are horny little buggers...I bought an original pair, and then added two more to the tank. Turns out I ended up with two females and two males. The first female bred, then the male started beating her and the remaining two up. So I moved the Two females and remaining male to a different tank, she wasn't there 3 days and she had shacked up with that male!! Now I have about 200 fry between 2 tanks...lol But to answer your question they say every 4-6 weeks

LOVE!!! I've been researching getting fish for the past few weeks, and convicts are the ones i've chosen!! I just set up my new aquarium and purchasing a pair this weekend!!  I can't wait!!

depends where you live at...? if you got petsmart...or petco...they run like $2.99 a pop so they are very cheap =] i got mines today and i have a male and female spawning already

In this video the female is bigger than the male. Alas, time has past and the male is now bigger by about the same proportions. I imagine as the female gets bigger her capacity to produce and store eggs increases as well.

its not unheard of to find tetras and cichlids in the wild. Rainbows hold their own and chase my africans around. They make good ditherfish along with the Giant Danios. Have a school of 15 or so Giant Danios in my pond with oscars, dempsesy, texas, and others as well. Havent lost one and oscars are pushing 10 inches.
