I remember a LOT of people at the church my family attended actually thinking this was a legit conversion on Andy's part.

Kathie Sullivan later admitted that she was in on the gag, and offered to advise for the film "Man On The Moon" (she was flatly ignored by the producers).

I don't understand how a person known for her forthright sincerity could actually do this and maintain any credibility with her audience. Apparently, her fans must know nothing about this parody of herself.

I think this was her way of telling the world that her 'faith' is all just an act.

Kathy may have admitted to this whole thing being a gag in retrospect in order to keep from looking like a naive idiot. Andy Kaufman was good at fooling with people's heads over the years, he may have fooled her.
