Their ability to rhyme(How big or small their vocabulary is), the creativity of their stories or what their lyrics our about, the creativity of their metaphors, similies and references, to me that is fact.

If you base it off of flow and voice, that is opinion.

If you base who is better than who off of, the beats they get on, then you should stop listening to music, because most rappers have nothing to do with the beats, besides choosing them to rap on.

Lets say, the Pen is good ol' real hip hop, with meaning and striking lyrics, and the crayon is the media music of now, about the same subjects over and over, swag(which none of them have), money, drugs, sex.

not every one shares a love for verbose word play to some it just comes off pompous so just cuz you believe rap is a bout word play dose not mean you can brand every rapper to your standards. the definition of rap is not clever metaphors its poetry. rap stands for rhythm and poetry. poetry is not define by complexity some of the most meaningful poetry is simplistic such as Anne Bradstreet's "Upon the Burning of our House" which is taught in high ranking literary colleges across the nation.

I never said it had to be complexed, I just said unique and creative, simplistic words can be creative.

I've never tried to brand every rapper to my standards, all I've been saying is that to compare 2 people who are known as rappers, you have to look at their lyrics, who is more unique and creative with their words.

Comparing rappers w/ different forms works well, just read their lyrics or look past their form of rap and listen to what they are saying and what they are speaking about and how they are saying it, it does not have to be complexed, but unique and creative, The song "Rebirth of slick(Cool like dat)" is very unique and creative, but its no where near the most complexed or metaphorical.
