THINK PEOPLE DONT JUST AGREE WITH THINGS THEY GIVE YOU THROUGH THE BIBLE AND FILL YOUR MINDS WITH MADEUP STORIES. THINK PEOPLE THE KEY IS THINKING AND BASED ON THAT MAKING RATIONAL DECISIONS
Actually, you are the one who needs to read up on propaganda. When you use things like apocalyptic imagery and rousing music that builds to a crescendo to push a specific agenda.. you are using propaganda techniques.
Check out my YouTube channel/playlists and websites for present-truth materials, Three Angels' Messages and God's last-mercy warning to His people in these last days.
Papacy = Antichrist / Little Horn / Beast from the Sea
Roman Catholicism = Whore of Babylon
Investigative Judgement has commenced in 1844 (1st Angel’s Message)
Ellen G. White, 1827-1915 = End-time Prophet Sent of God

Sunday Worship to be Enforced as Mark of the Beast"
Mater fact.. let me tell u... i was a christian till 1 week ago, when my pastor went to jail for child abuse. yes he was strongly a faithfull pastor for his entire life. also last week on the news a men cut his testicles cuz it says in the bible to do so if u think of ever cheating.. thanks to religion the world is fucked up.
@teriag Ij teriag.. explain to me where were u before u came to earth?? will u be able to explain what happends after you die? ahhhh ok. Keep beliving horus will make u burn for life, or sheeva destructor of the world, or Zeus. World blessings for u.
@teriag So...he's gonna go to hell for questioning religion. SO a kind guy like him and a paeodophile will receive the same fate! Great threat, and totally made by an all loving person. Idiot
I´ve seen this movie 3 times and I still like it. Maybe it was just smart editing, maybe not but it seemed that the interviewed people kept falling back on the same uncheckable arguments. I especially liked the part: "you don't have to pass an iq test to be in the senate" lol... Anyway, shockofgod should watch that movie, while he posed the question, provide me proof and evidence atheism is correct and accurate. For he is so blatantly blocking al the non christian comments...
You know what stands out to me? As I watched this movie, I couldn't help but notice that--when faced with the blatant irrationality and inconsistencies of their faiths--each of the respective interviewees fell back on the "God is beyond our comprehension" argument. Very, very good. No wonder these archaic, blood-thirsty, hate-mongering superstitions have survived for thousands of years. They have placed themselves comfortably above human scrutiny, or even reproach. They are smugly unsound.
@mtrifan48 Well these people are sheep lead to the slaughter, but they are strangers, people we don't have to deal with. What gets me, is that we have law-makers, judges, other figures in our AMERICAN government, that believes this shit. That actually scares me.
To quote Bill Hicks, "...we've had fundamentalist Christians in the White House with their hands over the red fucking button, 'tell me when, Lord, tell me when, I'm your servant, Lord'." Damn!
Is it only me who starts to think that those christians or other religious people commenting here actually are starting to doubt and " think for themselves " ? Lets look at it : They post here saying that " God has to be the answer " my personal favourite " Monkeys are faaar faaar away from Humans " ^^ And so on. What would the first given reaction of a religious person be when he doubts? Fear. And when cornered we retaliate. So do other "animals" .. ^^
Bill Maher Lies alot in this movie and it's not a serius Docomentery. It's just a, "haha lock att me im saying bad stuf about everyone." movie. Dont lisent to Bill Maher, but the movie is funny, but it's not a serius work and he lie alot.
@chrstilen5 Have you noticed the people who believe in God and negate evolution, look like they haven't evolved. Or in your case, SPELL like you haven't evolved. I can understand typos, but you downright just can't spell. It's usually the god-fearing folk who are the dolts.
@chrstilen5 Maybe because agnostics (or atheists) like me, prefer intelligence and education over religion. Providing evidence that it's the god-fearing folk who are the dolts, as I said before.
10-year-olds who are reeligious are growing up in abused homes (you shouldn't worry about shit like that at 10). If you don't know English, well, quit being a crybaby and just correct me. Problem with language and not giving a damn about language just means you lack intellect.
@streetcrazy Not beliving in religeon is a religeon. And yes there are alot of dummb religeons, but if there is a true religeon. Then all the rest of them are wrong and so they have the posibilety to lock bad, do bad or be bad and so on. Saying that religeon is bad/stupid is stupid. Saying that religeons are bad/stupid, is not stupid. "Intelligence and education" So i ges education means to not belive in somting you dont see and intelligence is to be educated?
@chrstilen5 Wrong, man. "Not believing in a religion" is not a religion, you dolt. A religion is a faith-based constitution. To say that disbelief is a religion is an audacious cop-out. NOBODY knows the truth, but somehow religious people think they do. Any theistic constitution is just synonymous to extremism. Religion isn't stupid, because stupid is innocent and can be forgiven; religion is selfish and hateful. Intelligence agrees with that. "Next comment".
@streetcrazy Saying dolt dont make you right, It makes you a jerk. To not belive, is to belive there is not. You belive in somting ore you belive it dosent exist. And there is not only religeons that are hateful and selfish. But there are alot of them.
If you belive there is no God ore somting like a God. Then you have a religeon where there is no God. Difrens is you cal it education.
Real intelligence is to anderstand that we dont know everyting and therefore we dont know if there is a God.
@chrstilen5 I'm an agnostic, man. Atheism isn't a religion in itself. Extreme atheism is another issue. As an agnostic, I don't believe either way, I believe humanity doesn't know the truth, and won't as a whole until we all die. I believe anything is possible, but it's not fact. Thing is, I'm not exactly a hater of religion, I'm a hater of the extremists and dolts. Education is vastly more important than legend or myth, my man.
As long as you dont hurt anybody, you can belive whatewer you want to.
It's a sad thing that religeon can give so mutch pain to the world, when it's suposed to give love. Anyway thee will be dummbasses everywere no mather what we do. Hopfuly we can stop them from going to far. ^_^
@chrstilen5 Irianically, the "don't hurt anyone" notion dates back to Wiccan, lol. But I agree with that, do what you want as long as it harms none. Thing is, religion only states love, but preaches hate beytween the lines. What's worse, humans take the violence to a whole new level.
The end of religious extremism would be the end to half, if not most, of the world's problems.
@streetcrazy Maby so, but if there was no religeon, people have no reason to be good. Most people are selfish assholes in there true nature. If there is no God, they have no reason to not hurt others for there own sake.
I belive that if there was no religeon, money be the religeon. The difrens is that money never say hellp any other then yourself.
Anyway, people will allways fuck it up. Im glad my religeon dont tell you to hate anyone (Like Islam, but I dident say that.).
@chrstilen5 Wrong. Look at most agnostics or atheists., now look at the religious people. Most people I personally know who are Christian are the most hateful, spiteful, judgemental, inhuman people I've ever known. Loan sharks are more forgiving and lenient. The few agnostics and atheists I know, they're respectful, curtious, and insightful. I'm very nice to others, I give what I can, I follow a code of honor that is very human...and I'm not a religious nut.
@chrstilen5 You are right on one thing. "People = Problem". Religions only contradict themselves in their sacred texts, but they don't enforce violence and hate (some religions do, however). People, their blind followers, interpret the texts for their own greed and self-righteousness and inflict their hate on others.
So, shouldn't the "good" and wholesome religious people stand up and say "THIS IS ENOUGH"?
He most likely is an atheist, but he's not trying to turn people to atheism, he is trying to show deeply religious theists, some of whom are world leaders, that they are naive to believe, so blindly, in this day and age, that all the fables of "miracles" such as virgin birth, talking to snakes, resurrection, 72 virgins, Rapture, an eternal afterlife with the creator himself, an omnipotent, omniscient, all powerful Deity are absolute fact, and taken as, dare I say, gospel.
It's hard to argue with Bill, although I'm sure many of you would love to. You can't find holes in "I don't know," which is what he's saying, and is the point you all seem to miss. He refuses to call himself an Atheist because Atheism, much like Christianity or other monotheistic religions, assume to know something none can prove. He "preaches," and I use the term loosely, rational thinking, which is something no one should have to be reminded to do in this day and age. It's just Religulous!
@srHz86 Atheism doesn't try and prove anything that isn't falsifiable! Sorry but I find it enormously grating when people assert propositions like the one you succeeded in conveying here. It's not due to any malicious intent on your part, I think just a result of ignorance to what the term 'atheist' or 'atheism' actually means.
Dont kid yourselves rational people. As you probably already know, these christians who take the Bible seriously are just as concerning as the people in Afghanistan called the Taliban.
Bill Maher is equivalent to pre-war Germany's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Except Maher doesnt wear a uniform-not yet anyway. Goebbels one determination was to make sure the public outcry was that the jews were responsible for the country's condition. Mahers hate speech is worse than the pre-selected religions he is condemning.
Hey religulous of America! Are you against freedom of speech and religion? We are allowed to speak our minds here too...not just see your freakin billboards and also see your churchy banners everywhere...shut up and let us have our moment...One might ask themselves why they feel so passionate to attack anyway...is it perhaps...doubt? Get a freakin sense of humor...after all, you've been following this for thousands of years without so much as a single board meeting with the leader...really!?!
Can anybody get what he's sayin' or is it just me? I've watched this movie a dozens of times and I can't seem to figure out the propaganda part - I'm not sayin' it's perfect, but it deserves better review than this blabber.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This movie is full of lies, half-truths, false assumptions, logical contradictions and fallacies, distortions, intolerance, prejudice, bigotry, arrogance, ignorance, and hypocrisy. The movie is a pathetic propaganda piece that will warp the hearts and minds of the gullible and the ignorant. It is also very poorly researched and argued.
@tyrantkingking Well I guess you having seen the movie cause you're making a point FOR Bill Maher. Since for the majority of the movie it is religious people who talk and try to argue for their religion, if it is "full of lies, half-truths...and hypocrisy", then that means religion is really all that, only religious people are interviewed!!
We live in a country where we have freedom of religion, but not freedom from religion. This movie says all the things that I want to say, but don't care enough to waste my time explaining, to every person who asks me: "Why don't you believe in God?" I don't preach the Atheist word to everybody, cause they don't wanna listen, just like I don't wanna listen to them. So, lets just accept our differences and not worry about it. By the way, this was a good movie.
You say that he Bill Maher travels all over the world and directs his sarcasm at "everybody," yet from what I've seen he addresses only the Abrahamic traditions, and, of them, only the extremist ones. He completely neglects the eastern wisdom traditions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, etc., to the extent that it seems like he doesn't even know they exist. When making a documentary on religion, and ending with sweeping generalizations like his, it doesn't help to ignore...um...half of the world...
@KingHobum He doesn't target the eastern religious like Hinduism because Hinduism is beyond crazy....it's extreme crazy...more extremer than Christianity so he leaves that out. There is no point wasting time on eastern religious because its rare that his audience will be eastern...trust me I come from east... I am an agnostic...and religions like Hinduism including Islam are like couple of hundred years behind West and they don't even want to hear the opposite argument.
@Giants296 Personally, I'm fascinated by Hinduism's concept of a single, infinite transcendental God (Brahman) and each individual's relationship towards it. On the outside, it seems polytheistic and bat-shit crazy, but Hinduism has had a lot of insight analyzing different people's personalities, and developing different approaches to God for each personality. Not to mention it developed the entire basis for eastern meditation. Islam is not without its virtues either.
@144mtl441 No, he hates Christianity. How much time did he spend mocking Islam in the movie? (He'd probably be KILLED if he did, someone would put a fatwah on his head) He's not even honest about "all" religion.
@DCussen well he hates all religions, and so do i, theyre all brainwashing, and pay a lil more attention to the movie and know your facts, being islam, judaism, and christianity all derive from the same roots, he kinda fucked with all three in some parts
@KingHobum There's litterally hundreads of religions, of course he can't cover them all in a single movie, dumb ass. If he ignored half the world, that would mean he touched half the world, that is billions of people, really not a lot right?
@2CSST2@chimmister I'm not upset at him limiting the scope of the religions he looks at. I'm upset that in the movie he makes sweeping generalizations about "religion" (implying all religion) while only examining the ones that are convenient to his movie. And frankly, no, he doesn't touch half the world. He touches the handful of dumb people who he can successfully make fun of, and we're supposed to assume that they accurately represent the other billion or so...which is absurd...
@KingHobum not sure you can put every single religion in one movie, plus Buddhists, Hindus, and most Eastern religions really cause as big as damage to the world as the ones mentioned in the film
@KingHobum Only so much you can fit in one movie and still have it be entertaining. If you noticed, he pretty much just attacked monotheistic religions.
@KingHobum Eastern "religion" is not really religion, but a philosophy. Eastern Philosophies are more focused on the way of living: no attachment, balance, loving nature, nirvana, etc. There's not really a "God" in Buddhism or Taoism or Confucianism; although there are gods in Hinduism. And people in this film are not rationalists, they were honest christians and muslims, etc. that actually believed in all the coo coo and nonsense of the Bible and other MANMADE fairly tale books.
@KingHobum He's an American dealing with American religions. The vast majority or religious people in the USA and Canada are Christian. 80+%. It wouldn't be hard to make fun of Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Bon, etc... How about we start here. The Buddha said once he is dead, he is dead, no further communication from beyond the grave. Tibetan Buddhist claim their Sutta was inspired 800 years later. Oooops.
@upnfamish. when u go 2 a modern americna hospital or get seen by a nurse or adopt a child frm a good orphanage, or even get fdstamp ur riding on somethin derive frm Christianity. Wen disasters strike anywhere Christians r there 1st n longest. In science. the giants on whose shoulders we stan, the founders of modern science r all Christian! That's y so funny 2 c atheists argue against God. Newton Galileo etc. even Einstein believe ther a Gd. Dont go2 a hosp or u b a parasite off of Christianity!
@vbo7777 Believing in god doesn't make him real. I don't think many people are stupid enough to think that believing in god stops you from being smart and changing the world for the better. We just believe that, that belief is unnecessary and (for alot of people) a barrier to rational thought.
Bill Maher as well as all people will face God one day. He's not what any of us think. The Bible says he's beyond all human comprehension. . .as high the heavens are above the earth, so are his thots higher than our thots.
If god wanted us to have a personal relationship with him, he wouldn't need Jesus... he could just be strolling around like he did in the Garden of Eden. Face it, if you don't think that the creator of the universe wanted us to have religion, then you shouldn't be believing in Jesus.
Thanks. However, if you wish to spend time on my behalf, I'd prefer it if you spent the time thinking and learning about other things.
For example, you didn't directly reply to my point about God not needing Jesus to have a personal relationship with people. Heck, why does he even need prophets? Why not talk to everyone at once via telepathy and do without the go-betweens? He is supposedly omnipotent, right? Those are some of the things I'd prefer you to think about.
@imrational - If we could eventually expel all religions in this world, what the F** will people then have to argue and fight about? so you see it is important to have religions and war so the world elite who have run the show for 1,000's of years over the people will always protect religion and the need for WAR, keeps people under their control while making a very wealthy lifestyle for those at the top, problem we have now is they need new wars (the east v the west) and a new religion (Alien?)
what a great show... It shows just how stupid religion really is.... He can't believe in Santa Clausm, but he can believe in a guy interested in listening to billions murmuring words... Such great lines... I hope it wakes up some of the fence sitters... yeow....
Bill Maher is a "former" stand up comic?? WTF?? He IS a stand up comic loser! Who cares if this movie pisses people off?? He's ONLY pissing off religous people off. Like Bill Maher cares about them. The first third the movie is good and the rest "drags"?? Whatever? The end of the movie is Propoganda?? Whatever dude. What do you think the bible is. And then you say you want to see the movie again?? You are an idiot.
Whether or not the bible is propaganda is beside the point. I'm reviewing a movie, not books on this video.
The ending of the movie IS blatant propaganda. The rising musical score, the apocalyptic imagery, the call to action... those are propaganda techniques.
I can like a movie and still point out flaws or specific aspects that I disagree with. I'm a fan, but not a fanboy.
Things are far more complicated than what you are making out. You cannot force anyone to not believe something. Having "thought police" would be different than a theocracy how?
I think FREEDOM is more important. Freedom of speech and encouraging free & open debate is the way to go. Taking a militant approach is only going harden people in their beliefs.
@imrational But that's what religion does. It says you must behave this way and say certain and not say certain things. That's total militant. That's mind control. I do believe in Freedom of Speech. If you choose to believe and you find comfort in it, that's great. For me, I love my life free of the "Chains" of religion. I live a Christ like life, but I don't believe in Christ. Go figure, eh??
@imrational Most religious people are really closed-minded and they have been brain washed thier whole life. At the end of the day, you have the choice to believe or not but keep in mind, like Bill Maher says, believing comes at a high price for some. But considering that MOST people are selfish, it doesn't surprize me.
What if Christianity &/or dumb children are what is needed to survive in the long term? Who's to say what beliefs or world-views will lead to continued survival? Maybe a Christian will have some brilliant insight or even an insane thought which leads to an invention that later saves us?
I'm a Skeptic & atheist, but I think diversity of thought is just as important as biodiversity. I try and educate & debate to encourage my views, not to eliminate others.
@imrational Skeptic? You believe in ?Squared Circle?Christianity makes dumb children who believe in Resurrection of the Dead n etc.Maybe?Christianity is anti-Science n run by Con-Men who must continue their Con-Game of Christianity(which they defined) at the expense of Humanity--Christianity is a False n Disease belief n Christians are parasites.
@imrational What if?Show me your reasoning leading to this notion.Who's to say what belief?Application of Science,Wise Governing n harmony between cultures, nations, rich n poor n etc, anything but the Poisonous Christianity would do.Maybe a Christian? One person? One invention? You are very imaginative.
I suggest you watch the excellent documentary series, "Connections". Who knows where the next great ideas will come from?
I do think that rational thought/skepticism is the best worldview to have if your goal is the long-term survival of the human race... but that doesn't mean that we should eradicate all other models.
You do realize that many religious people would say the same of atheists, right? Perhaps we should look for a way to allow for more tolerance on both sides.
@imrational Who knows?Precisely name this person you attach the "who" to.I would not know, but I know for sure, any solution to our long term survival come from rational application of Science simply Science has put us in this survival-threaten situation.
Example - Right now, we're finding out that flame-retardant chemicals greatly reduce female fertility... and we already have those chemicals in our clothes, carpeting, curtains. We're moving too fast in some areas and not in others. Perhaps a religion's desire to hold back technology actually saves us from making choices/using tech that would be harmful in the long-term?
@imrational religion's desire?religious people can have desire to go back to nature, but this does not make this desire solely belong to religions.Christian people are against science n anti nature if they don't n accept science which readily disprove their miracles of dead body rising n etc.the earth needs young people with understanding n love nature to survive, not miracle believing n non-accepting science dumb Christians.
that lady is going to go in the rapture and come back on a white horse!!... is the white horse cocaine?? talk about looney, thats like charles manson shit right there
Dont link horny child molester priests to Christianity nor blood thirsty extremists to Islam. Talk to the people who really belive in God and in their religion and you'll know that God is there. The first word that God sent to Muhammad was "Read", so read and do researches about other religions just like Maher did. Peace be upon you all.

God and religion are different things people, open up. I believe mny are being brinwashed by Atheism into thinking there is no God. When in fact they couldnt have been more wrong. Atheists do not realise the "God" label goes beyond what you read about from these religions. It can simply mean the universe (Spinoza's God). You'll aquire this aswell as Cosmic Religion. As for religions. I dont like some views from diferent religions. But I do respect them. Because I've experienced them.
really good review . . i loved this film its funny, thought provoking and drives home a clear message which i think is important to be heard . . i'd loved to see more of this sort of stuff and for a lot more people to wake up and see sense..
movie is definately worth watching.. tell people to watch it, spread the word - lets get rid of fucking religion. theres no need for it anymore, just a political tool thats being used daily in america, the most powerful country in the world. its scary to see the leaders of such a country being so damn irrational.
You know what? i would pay for an airplane ticket then to go to Vatican City...go to the Vatican.............and piss on it.....And I would revel in it...oh the joy..
Good review, good film. Like you said it started to stumble later on, but that I think is because he never questioned the context of the beliefs. You can't try and understand Islam in Europe, for example, without talking about the War on Terror etc.
As the film went on he seemed to lose sight of the issues of rationality and faith, and started just looking at religion in general, and that's where it suffered for me. Still definite thumbs up though.
If I think I'm going to be offended by a movie then I don't patronize it and that's the end of it. In my opinion, protesting movies amounts to free advertising for the movie (remember the DaVinci Code).
It is one thing to believe in God and another to believe in a man-made religion. To believe there's a force that may have accidentally or intentionally create everything is one thing. But, to believe in a religion that WAS created by man to try and explain God is another. Please watch misquoting Jesus here on Youtube. If you have the patience or time to watch all ten parts you will be enlightened. If you aren't I have nothing more to say.
I loved the movie except the end speech. That was Bill throwing his Atheist views in there I think. I don't like religion, but I do believe in God, so I didn't think that was a good way to end it. It took away from the objectivity.
you believe in God but not in Religions? where do you think the whole God thing comes from? thats like saying i like rapp music but i hate black folks
Whoa... first of all. Rap is an art form that can be performed by anyone. Secondly, God was around for eternity, but mankind organized a bunch of rules and stories about God because they wanted to believe they could know everything about the afterlife. I'm a free thinker. I just don't need someone telling me what to believe.
If you're looking for proof, then you're not seeking God anyway. So if I gave you proof you would reject it for some reason because you've already decided you do not want to believe. I believe because it makes logical sense to me (as opposed to religion). I also dream things that come true, so I know there's some plan for the universe, and there must be some "power" controlling things. We call it God because we need a label for it...
There is nothing wrong with seeking proof while seeking god. Also, yes... people would reject proof if you don't have a testable theory. Without testable theory, you have no way of accurately assigning proof. So, you need something other than proof for a rational person to join you in belief.
As to dreaming things that come true, you should post those dreams online so your predictions can learned from and tested. After all, that is proof of something possibly supernatural.
As for the dreams, I usually don't remember it until it's happening. Like I'll come into a town I've never been in, recognize a business sign from the dream, then remember the the next few things I'm supposed to see, and sure enough, they're there. So I wouldn't use as proof of something. It is actually irrational to expect proof of a concept such as God. Unless God wants to provide it at this point in time, humankind cannot do so. The human ego wants to know all things. It wants to BE God
Everyone has "deja-vu" at times and that sounds exactly like what you are experiencing. If you seriously think this happens in your dreams, you can keep a "dream journal"... people can train themselves to remember their dreams.
As to proof of god, you need a testable theory before you can accurately assign proof. As to your point however, a murderer might not want to leave evidence as to his existence, it doesn't mean that any won't be left.
I figured you'd say that. Obviously it cannot be deja-vu if I'm in a town I've never been in seeing unique things I've never seen (except in the dream). And I have much more important things to do than to train myself to memorize dreams so that I can try to prove something to someone. Comparing God to a murderer, is just a weak point. And there are lots of murderers that DO get away with it, we just don't hear about them.
Actually, yes, it actually could still be deja-vu... but if you really are having prophetic dreams, then don't you think that it could be extremely important to record your dreams? You're saying you're predicting the future... I'd think that would be something of potential benefit, wouldn't you?
I wasn't comparing god to a murderer, I was providing an example where people that try not to leave evidence as to their existence still do.
Humans are always looking to profit off of everything. I'm not given lotto numbers in dreams. Like recently, we got a new girl at work named Lisa, and I was talking about a certain topic while doing some specific job, all of which I had dreamed. So the only benefit is to me personally, because I'm supposed know there's a plan. A lot of people don't need to be that convinced, that's just part of the plan. As for the murderer, the key word is "people." God is not a person.
Profit?!? If you don't remember your prophetic dreams now until they occur later... how do you know that there isn't something there of greater import? You won't know until you record your dreams. If they actually were prophetic, you might help save lies or avert disasters.
btw, it's still sounding exactly like deja vu. Perhaps you should read up about the phenomenon.
I know what deja vu is, thank you. That is just a FEELING that you've lived the moment before, although it might have been just a similar moment. That is different from seeing specific people you've never met before, having specific conversations you haven't had before. If I ever dream of something that seems it could be of some importance, I'll write it down. My feeling on that is that if God exists and wants that to happen, I'll feel compelled to write it down.
sorry about being so skeptical of you, I just think it's very telling that a person might have an ability far different than your average individual... an ability that could conceivably broaden our understanding of the universe and/or help others....
Exactly. That's what I'm thinkin'. I'm meant to be one of the "enlightened" ones that pushes the species onto new levels of understanding. Others are not meant to be, that's why I don't try to convert anyone, though it's fun to discuss the logic involved in people's choices of beliefs.
the man rocks.

@gekritzl,

"Intelligence and education" So i ges education means to not belive in somting you dont see and intelligence is to be educated?
next coment...
chrstilen5 1 year ago
@chrstilen5 Wrong, man. "Not believing in a religion" is not a religion, you dolt. A religion is a faith-based constitution. To say that disbelief is a religion is an audacious cop-out. NOBODY knows the truth, but somehow religious people think they do. Any theistic constitution is just synonymous to extremism. Religion isn't stupid, because stupid is innocent and can be forgiven; religion is selfish and hateful. Intelligence agrees with that. "Next comment".
streetcrazy 1 year ago
@streetcrazy Saying dolt dont make you right, It makes you a jerk. To not belive, is to belive there is not. You belive in somting ore you belive it dosent exist. And there is not only religeons that are hateful and selfish. But there are alot of them.
If you belive there is no God ore somting like a God. Then you have a religeon where there is no God. Difrens is you cal it education.
Real intelligence is to anderstand that we dont know everyting and therefore we dont know if there is a God.
chrstilen5 1 year ago
@chrstilen5 I'm an agnostic, man. Atheism isn't a religion in itself. Extreme atheism is another issue. As an agnostic, I don't believe either way, I believe humanity doesn't know the truth, and won't as a whole until we all die. I believe anything is possible, but it's not fact. Thing is, I'm not exactly a hater of religion, I'm a hater of the extremists and dolts. Education is vastly more important than legend or myth, my man.
streetcrazy 1 year ago
@streetcrazy Well said.
Maby what we come to is...
As long as you dont hurt anybody, you can belive whatewer you want to.
It's a sad thing that religeon can give so mutch pain to the world, when it's suposed to give love. Anyway thee will be dummbasses everywere no mather what we do. Hopfuly we can stop them from going to far. ^_^
This is like the longest talk on youtube ever.
chrstilen5 1 year ago
@chrstilen5 Irianically, the "don't hurt anyone" notion dates back to Wiccan, lol. But I agree with that, do what you want as long as it harms none. Thing is, religion only states love, but preaches hate beytween the lines. What's worse, humans take the violence to a whole new level.
The end of religious extremism would be the end to half, if not most, of the world's problems.
streetcrazy 1 year ago
@streetcrazy Maby so, but if there was no religeon, people have no reason to be good. Most people are selfish assholes in there true nature. If there is no God, they have no reason to not hurt others for there own sake.
I belive that if there was no religeon, money be the religeon. The difrens is that money never say hellp any other then yourself.
Anyway, people will allways fuck it up. Im glad my religeon dont tell you to hate anyone (Like Islam, but I dident say that.).
People = Problem.
chrstilen5 1 year ago
@chrstilen5 Wrong. Look at most agnostics or atheists., now look at the religious people. Most people I personally know who are Christian are the most hateful, spiteful, judgemental, inhuman people I've ever known. Loan sharks are more forgiving and lenient. The few agnostics and atheists I know, they're respectful, curtious, and insightful. I'm very nice to others, I give what I can, I follow a code of honor that is very human...and I'm not a religious nut.
streetcrazy 1 year ago
@chrstilen5 You are right on one thing. "People = Problem". Religions only contradict themselves in their sacred texts, but they don't enforce violence and hate (some religions do, however). People, their blind followers, interpret the texts for their own greed and self-righteousness and inflict their hate on others.
So, shouldn't the "good" and wholesome religious people stand up and say "THIS IS ENOUGH"?

He most likely is an atheist, but he's not trying to turn people to atheism, he is trying to show deeply religious theists, some of whom are world leaders, that they are naive to believe, so blindly, in this day and age, that all the fables of "miracles" such as virgin birth, talking to snakes, resurrection, 72 virgins, Rapture, an eternal afterlife with the creator himself, an omnipotent, omniscient, all powerful Deity are absolute fact, and taken as, dare I say, gospel.
a7xdude87 1 year ago
It's hard to argue with Bill, although I'm sure many of you would love to. You can't find holes in "I don't know," which is what he's saying, and is the point you all seem to miss. He refuses to call himself an Atheist because Atheism, much like Christianity or other monotheistic religions, assume to know something none can prove. He "preaches," and I use the term loosely, rational thinking, which is something no one should have to be reminded to do in this day and age. It's just Religulous!
srHz86 1 year ago
@srHz86 Atheism doesn't try and prove anything that isn't falsifiable! Sorry but I find it enormously grating when people assert propositions like the one you succeeded in conveying here.
IamSnoogans 1 year ago
You say that he Bill Maher travels all over the world and directs his sarcasm at "everybody," yet from what I've seen he addresses only the Abrahamic traditions, and, of them, only the extremist ones. He completely neglects the eastern wisdom traditions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, etc., to the extent that it seems like he doesn't even know they exist. When making a documentary on religion, and ending with sweeping generalizations like his, it doesn't help to ignore...um...half of the world...
KingHobum 1 year ago 2

youngn420 1 year ago
@KingHobum He doesn't target the eastern religious like Hinduism because Hinduism is beyond crazy....it's extreme crazy...more extremer than Christianity so he leaves that out. There is no point wasting time on eastern religious because its rare that his audience will be eastern...trust me I come from east... I am an agnostic...and religions like Hinduism including Islam are like couple of hundred years behind West and they don't even want to hear the opposite argument.
Giants296 1 year ago
@Giants296 Personally, I'm fascinated by Hinduism's concept of a single, infinite transcendental God (Brahman) and each individual's relationship towards it. On the outside, it seems polytheistic and bat-shit crazy, but Hinduism has had a lot of insight analyzing different people's personalities, and developing different approaches to God for each personality. Not to mention it developed the entire basis for eastern meditation. Islam is not without its virtues either.

@KingHobum There's litterally hundreads of religions, of course he can't cover them all in a single movie, dumb ass. If he ignored half the world, that would mean he touched half the world, that is billions of people, really not a lot right?
2CSST2 1 year ago
@2CSST2 @chimmister I'm not upset at him limiting the scope of the religions he looks at.
KingHobum 1 year ago
@KingHobum not sure you can put every single religion in one movie, plus Buddhists, Hindus, and most Eastern religions really cause as big as damage to the world as the ones mentioned in the film
chimmister 1 year ago
@KingHobum Only so much you can fit in one movie and still have it be entertaining. If you noticed, he pretty much just attacked monotheistic religions.
mallic 1 year ago
@KingHobum Eastern "religion" is not really religion, but a philosophy. Eastern Philosophies are more focused on the way of living: no attachment, balance, loving nature, nirvana, etc. There's not really a "God" in Buddhism or Taoism or Confucianism; although there are gods in Hinduism. And people in this film are not rationalists, they were honest christians and muslims, etc. that actually believed in all the coo coo and nonsense of the Bible and other MANMADE fairly tale books.
hwankyulee114 1 year ago
@KingHobum He's an American dealing with American religions. The vast majority or religious people in the USA and Canada are Christian. 80+%. It wouldn't be hard to make fun of Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Bon, etc... How about we start here. The Buddha said once he is dead, he is dead, no further communication from beyond the grave. Tibetan Buddhist claim their Sutta was inspired 800 years later. Oooops.

@stanleycup2008
I'm a fan, but not a fanboy.
imrational 1 year ago
@imrational The end of the movie speaks the truth. We MUST end religion NOW!!
stanleycup2008 1 year ago
@stanleycup2008
Things are far more complicated than what you are making out. You cannot force anyone to not believe something. Having "thought police" would be different than a theocracy how?
I think FREEDOM is more important. Freedom of speech and encouraging free & open debate is the way to go. Taking a militant approach is only going harden people in their beliefs.
imrational 1 year ago
@imrational But that's what religion does. It says you must behave this way and say certain and not say certain things. That's total militant. That's mind control. I do believe in Freedom of Speech. If you choose to believe and you find comfort in it, that's great. For me, I love my life free of the "Chains" of religion. I live a Christ like life, but I don't believe in Christ. Go figure, eh??

Sorry, when I read your "we must end religion NOW" comment, I took it to mean that you were more militant in your stances.

@imrational Most religious people are really closed-minded and they have been brain washed thier whole life. At the end of the day, you have the choice to believe or not but keep in mind, like Bill Maher says, believing comes at a high price for some. But considering that MOST people are selfish, it doesn't surprize me.

@UpNFamish

Dont link horny child molester priests to Christianity nor blood thirsty extremists to Islam. Talk to the people who really belive in God and in their religion and you'll know that God is there. The first word that God sent to Muhammad was "Read", so read and do researches about other religions just like Maher did. Peace be upon you all.

yah,. religon and non religious christianity/nondenominational are really different actually.
bottom line religion wont get you into heaven.a relationship with God will.
once you get to different types of christianity than it basically becomes religion.

Asshole... you are so fucking brainwashed. Jesus Camp is just an excuse to pedophilia. Catholicism promotes child abuse.

Because I've experienced them.

movie is definately worth watching.. tell people to watch it, spread the word - lets get rid of fucking religion. theres no need for it anymore, just a political tool thats being used daily in america, the most powerful country in the world. its scary to see the leaders of such a country being so damn irrational.

There is no Protesters because they are protesting at their churches after seening this movie.
lq32 2 years ago

It took away from the objectivity.
ninjayang 2 years ago
you believe in God but not in Religions? where do you think the whole God thing comes from? thats like saying i like rapp music but i hate black folks
djzorro 2 years ago
Whoa... first of all. Rap is an art form that can be performed by anyone. Secondly, God was around for eternity, but mankind organized a bunch of rules and stories about God because they wanted to believe they could know everything about the afterlife. I'm a free thinker. I just don't need someone telling me what to believe.
ninjayang 2 years ago
what proof is there of there beign a GOD?
djzorro 2 years ago
If you're looking for proof, then you're not seeking God anyway. So if I gave you proof you would reject it for some reason because you've already decided you do not want to believe. I believe because it makes logical sense to me (as opposed to religion). I also dream things that come true, so I know there's some plan for the universe, and there must be some "power" controlling things. We call it God because we need a label for it...
ninjayang 2 years ago
ninjayang,
There is nothing wrong with seeking proof while seeking god. Also, yes... people would reject proof if you don't have a testable theory. Without testable theory, you have no way of accurately assigning proof. So, you need something other than proof for a rational person to join you in belief.
As to dreaming things that come true, you should post those dreams online so your predictions can learned from and tested. After all, that is proof of something possibly supernatural.
imrational 2 years ago
As for the dreams, I usually don't remember it until it's happening. Like I'll come into a town I've never been in, recognize a business sign from the dream, then remember the the next few things I'm supposed to see, and sure enough, they're there. So I wouldn't use as proof of something. It is actually irrational to expect proof of a concept such as God. Unless God wants to provide it at this point in time, humankind cannot do so. The human ego wants to know all things. It wants to BE God
ninjayang 2 years ago
ninjayang,
Everyone has "deja-vu" at times and that sounds exactly like what you are experiencing. If you seriously think this happens in your dreams, you can keep a "dream journal"... people can train themselves to remember their dreams.
As to proof of god, you need a testable theory before you can accurately assign proof. As to your point however, a murderer might not want to leave evidence as to his existence, it doesn't mean that any won't be left.
imrational 2 years ago
I figured you'd say that. Obviously it cannot be deja-vu if I'm in a town I've never been in seeing unique things I've never seen (except in the dream). And I have much more important things to do than to train myself to memorize dreams so that I can try to prove something to someone. Comparing God to a murderer, is just a weak point. And there are lots of murderers that DO get away with it, we just don't hear about them.
ninjayang 2 years ago
ninjayang,
Actually, yes, it actually could still be deja-vu... but if you really are having prophetic dreams, then don't you think that it could be extremely important to record your dreams? You're saying you're predicting the future... I'd think that would be something of potential benefit, wouldn't you?
I wasn't comparing god to a murderer, I was providing an example where people that try not to leave evidence as to their existence still do.
imrational 2 years ago
Humans are always looking to profit off of everything. I'm not given lotto numbers in dreams. Like recently, we got a new girl at work named Lisa, and I was talking about a certain topic while doing some specific job, all of which I had dreamed. So the only benefit is to me personally, because I'm supposed know there's a plan. A lot of people don't need to be that convinced, that's just part of the plan. As for the murderer, the key word is "people." God is not a person.
ninjayang 2 years ago
ninjayang,
Profit?!? If you don't remember your prophetic dreams now until they occur later... how do you know that there isn't something there of greater import? You won't know until you record your dreams. If they actually were prophetic, you might help save lies or avert disasters.
btw, it's still sounding exactly like deja vu. Perhaps you should read up about the phenomenon.
imrational 2 years ago
I know what deja vu is, thank you. That is just a FEELING that you've lived the moment before, although it might have been just a similar moment. That is different from seeing specific people you've never met before, having specific conversations you haven't had before. If I ever dream of something that seems it could be of some importance, I'll write it down. My feeling on that is that if God exists and wants that to happen, I'll feel compelled to write it down.
ninjayang 2 years ago
sorry about being so skeptical of you, I just think it's very telling that a person might have an ability far different than your average individual... an ability that could conceivably broaden our understanding of the universe and/or help others....
and you decide, "meh. not interested".
imrational 2 years ago
Exactly. That's what I'm thinkin'. I'm meant to be one of the "enlightened" ones that pushes the species onto new levels of understanding. Others are not meant to be, that's why I don't try to convert anyone, though it's fun to discuss the logic involved in people's choices of beliefs.
