  • Sounds a hell of a lot better than LaBrie does with DT

  • Cool, I never knew about this. LaBrie fits this song almost as well as Akerfeldt does in Repentance.

  • La Brie's voice fits perfectly with the whole song. Good one!

  • haha. it looks like James just came out of bed :) Great outfit!

  • Comment removed

  • it most be difficult for james to sing that low

hes always reaching those super high notes

  • Fucking James!!

  • Labrie has to be the most famous horrible singer, and I don't know if i feel envious of sympathetic for him.

  • Fuck you DT haters, LaBrie Rules!!! (And Opeth too!)

  • While Opeth wear all black, LaBrie suddenly come wearing white t-shirt and shorts. Awesome.

  • sounds like south park's Kenny

  • I saw this tour. I spent half the dream theater set flipping labrae off. Its amazing to me how one man can totally fucking ruin an otherwise great band like dream theater. I hate this prancing faggot. Opeth stained themselves with this nonsense.

  • I assume you are rating labrae as a vocalist. I concur.

  • OMFG, This is too fucking epic!!!

  • wow, these guys are lucky justin beiber isn't here to show these two failures what a real vocal icon sings like

  • If I could only clap through internet!!

  • Labrie clearly did not get the "All Black" memo

  • I liked Lopez better. Though he was Opeth's best drummer.

  • @tomkaymusic777 yeah, i think axenrot is more metal.

  • @monkeytheman26 Yeah, axenrot has great little ghost notes that he does, perfect druming technique too

  • Im a drummer. I think the best skills of Lopez were in this kind of songs, the mellow songs, If all of you were drummers you would really apreciate the fills and the feeling behind his playing, I really love one fill in particular and that fill is in this song 0:30 , is just amazing what Lopez did. Axenrot is really good drummer too, but you see the diference more clearly in the mellow songs, the playing of axenrot is very regular and Lopez keep you always expecting, thats why I love Lopez.

  • Labrie in shorts...hahaha..this is epic

  • 8 people are listen now a justin bieber's song

  • good collab. i think there was a tiny vocal slip up though, but shit... it happens

  • why the fuck are all this video's filled with people being douche's??? JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!!!!!

  • @Acormusband Far from it, it was intentionally imrpoved and was well executed.

  • Labrie rocks

  • Nice :)

  • Awesome duo of voices greatly going together with the instruments. Even though MIkael and James have very different vocals, it's awesome!

  • both Dream Theater & Opeth are from another planet!

  • LOLOLOLOL Jean Shorts!!

  • BOTH DT and Opeth rocks!

  • One thing we can all agree on, Axenrot is fucking horrible.

  • @donangry Why you folks don't like the way Axenrot plays? I'm sick of this, do you have any sounding reason? I really love his playing.

  • @DevouredByThem I KNOW, i understand that people are upset that martin left but regaurdless axe is a really fucking good drumer, people just always have to find a reason to bitch dont they......

  • Labrie was very good.

  • wait wait..im A DIE HARD dream theater fan and i will never say a bad thing about Opeth or Mikael because im aware they are AMAZING FUCKING AWESOME.My two favorite bands ever. Period.

  • hey just remove the 'am' or add an 'ing'.

  • Don't start a comparison argument from this but the only time I can enjoy labrie (i.e. listen without 'cringing' ) is when i am listen to dream theater-live at the marquee.

  • On a more positive note, this has to be a close third as far as most awesome things I've seen this year, second being the Shattered Fortress mash-up and first being DT and Maiden together in concert.

Speaking of, to anyone who saw the Phoenix show-I'm sorry for screeching in your ears during Number of the Beast. I really, really am. ;)

  • this is so freaking epic! both amazing vocalists!

  • See, this is what I fucking hate about Youtube-you can't put two different musicians, bands, what have you, together in a video without a bunch of people coming out and starting retarded arguments over which is better.

In short, this is why we can't have nice things.

  • @Foxer35 We'll never be able to have nice things :(

  • Lastima la imagen pero el sonido está perfecto

  • LaBrie did fantastic. I really wish I went to see this. And I hope they get together again.

  • think about it.... James' voice is pretty high to begin with and Mikeal has a low voice. It's not really fair to compare them o_o

  • Mikael sings better here that on the Lamentation DVD..

  • Mikael wins!!!!

  • I remember everybody having a big laugh when Mikael said that they had written a new song and it was called "Mike Portnoy Is A Fucking Bitch"! Haha! Great times, great show.

  • I really like LaBrie's performance here. Wish he'd have song the whole song, just to hear what it sounds like.

  • @MistaMeeetch Nah, i knew he was a troll, just wanted to see how he would react.

  • It's as good as LaBrie singing with Geoff Tate.

  • o my fucking goodness!

    Opeth ft James Labrie?!

    too good to bet tru...

James did a freakin great job dude!

  • i think mikael is better

  • @TheOrangeFondler ... ok ...

they sing in diffrent ways right? it's a matter of opinion

  • @sobeto28 got a problem?

  • @TheOrangeFondler of course i got, you say like akderfelt has any kind of skill Technically that labrie doesnt, it's like , hey i like Iron maiden better then i dont know, some jazz shit,if its your opinion,i got no problem, but you said like it was the truth

  • @sobeto28 "i think" means it's my preference. in no way did i present it as being an objective truth.

  • I love James LaBrie, he has a beautiful voice, and so does Mikael... I think they are the best in both styles they differ.

  • I think, James is a great singer from a technical point of view, but he lacks feeling in general. He did a very good job on that last chorus, though, so I might have to reconsider my opinion.

  • @subslaytanic I think you should reconsider your opinion. In some of the DT classics he has such a great feeling in is voice in addition to being technically brilliant, he is really a great singer!

  • well he could have at least wear some pants :D

  • they're friends now, they can drink together later! )))

  • this is so badass!!!wish i could have been at this show

  • nice shorts james XD

  • @foldedeggs: I Think you are drunk or something. JLB is always shining on the stage with his unique voice. Plus no way Opeth beats DT.

  • Guys both James and Mikael are great singers. They both practice different styles so stop trying to say which one is better. James can do incredible highs while Mikael does some of the best death growls I have ever heard and still can do amazing clean vocals. Plus both of them are in two of the greatest bands ever. So really stop bitching like a bunch of tween girls arguing over which Jonas brother is hotter and listen to the good music.

  • I bet that the people giving you thumbs up are also those who are arguing! Hypocrites!

  • @sword8333 love this coment

  • @sword8333 say it brother

  • @sword8333

    Nick is obviously hotter n00b.

  • Tesâo de vídeo!! congratulations! from Brazil

  • I wish there were some dvd quality performances of that. One of the best Opeth songs with Labrie is badass.

  • James's performance give me the chills...

  • This wasn't played in Clearwater; it was played in Blackwater Park.

  • lol

  • haha love the uneducated DT haters on here. classic!

  • @radioxxflyer agreed

  • james wear shorts!!!!!

  • what the fuck is james wearing?!!!

  • Florida in June is fuckin furnace bro...being a Canuk I am sure he was hating life, lol.....

  • oh, had no idea it was in florida

  • LOL, James looks like he just woke up XD

  • akerfeldt, though, has an amazing voice imo... his clean vocals are really mesmerizing and his growling is just fuckin badass...

he does have a few minor vocal slip-ups live at time but thats forgiveable since it is a lot harder to sing while playing guitar, and he does an amazing job at it

lastly.. akerfeldt is a top-grade lyricist and songwriter and i cant imagine labrie's solo stuff coming anywhere near that level

  • He wrote Sacrificed sons, prophets of war, Vacant, parts of octavarium, blind faith, parts of caught in a web, Anna lee and one last time afaik :)

  • @noahballs wrong.

  • I really like them both. :) James and Mickael. :)

  • lol james shorts xD

  • lol does the guy at 4:35 go "Fat-ass!" or "bad-ass!"?

  • I like Mikaels voice better than James, but in this vid james did a very very good job. I don't know why so many people complain about James voice, for me James is a incredible singer, he has not this soft, wonderful "Mikael-Voice", but still i think he is an overall better singer.

  • lol :) ofcourse he has to be a bad vocalist..

That's why the best progbands in the world has him appearing on stage :)

  • I can't tell who you're defending.

  • I've always thought James LaBrie was the luckiest singer on earth to be surrounded by musicians of the caliber of Dream Theater. It's like a magician doing sleight-of-hand tricks, in a way. The magician does something to distract you with one hand and the other does the sneaky stuff. With DT, the band does so many amazing things you really don't notice the subpar singing. Now here he is with the best all-around live band out there. And no one is wanking out 128th notes to distract. BUSTED.

  • that is a stupid comment (not saying you are stupid - just the comment), but if anything James is being busted for being a great singer because his voice stands out over the laid back music. He sang it flawlessly... loud, clear, and in tune.

  • I saw this in person at this very show. Seeing LaBrie come out to sing my favorite Opeth song was a real treat. :D

  • Akerfeldt with always be a better singer/musician than LaBrie. LaBrie is always meek sounding and his corny vibrato is super annoying...and listen to that skill at 4:15 hahaha. Akerfeldt has passion and skill both vocally and musically. He writes EVERYTHING for Opeth. LaBrie is just a sub par vocalist who doesn't even write his own material.

  • LaBrie has released many solo albums + some songs written for other projects and artists, also take account the songs written dor Dream Theater.

  • åkerfeldt is an amazing singer, but anyone would be foolish not to admit that he was out of key on some notes and further more that james labrie was completely in key in every note he sang.

I won't argue any other points because most of it is strictly opinion.

  • i agree totally

  • lol LaBrie with white shirt and shorts XD looks like he just woke up XD

  • nice shorts LaBrie

  • I think james is an overall better singer, but Mikael's clean vocals are really soothing.

  • IS JAMES LaBRIE WEARING SHORTS ON STAGE?!

  • So awesome. Loved it.

  • both very good singer

  • they are both really great vocalists yet Mikel's voice is angelic...

    my opinion.

  • I agree. There's more passion in Mike's voice.

  • I don't want to be cocky and say I am right, but I am almost sure of what I said.

  • sweet

  • I like LaBrie, he has an awesome voice... but the falsettos he does are way too exagerated. I've heard hundred of DT live performances, and he really messes up sometimes.

For example in Score he start singing in a awesome way but little by little he get tired and his vocal quality decay. After the orchestra's Ouverture, he's back in form but in Metropolis, he is tired again and messes up some parts.

My point is that maybe he must limit a little his voice.

  • I can't agree more. Great comment. Very objective.

  • fan va snyggt labrie är grym

  • everyone whines about la brie. i didn't like him at first, but he's really grown on me now i think he's the shit.

  • yes james does screw up a lot live but he isnt that bad.

BTW its always easier scoffing from behind.

    Isnt it?/

  • let's see you do any better

  • Wow, he's really clear in songs like this. He isn't trying to over-extend his vocal chords and he's staying around a range which doesn't make him sound as though he's straining himself.

  • labrie is the man

  • Tastes are different. James doesnt suck. You either like him or you dont, thats all. Lets just enjoy and quit whining.

  • Trying to start a fanboy rage or what?

  • James is at his best right now since the early 90's when he was his absolute best. Very few singers out there can still even challenege him and win. There are some, but James is still great and is the man for DT.

  • mierda k es esto dios mio esto es de lo mejor

  • opeth/theater fuckin rulz!

  • is very nice to see two of the most awesome bands ins the world DT and Opeth rule!!!!!!

La Brie is the man, some people say that he sucks, isn't true I guess that people who say that can't sing the half he can, he is DT voice and he deserves respect, is a God just like Myung, Portnoy, Petrucci and Rudess. I'm a DT fan and of course a progressive maniac!!!!!! music is life!!!!!!

  • Well said!

  • Outstanding, the vids blurry, so it kinda looks like labrie is wearing jean shorts lol, not very rock and roll, but still just proves that labrie is a good singer, i hate when people say he sucks live when they never went and saw him live.

  • lol those jeans look like a pair of boxer xD great voice anyway, I agree with you. The whole dream theater band is awesome!

  • I saw DT a few years ago, and LaBrie was spot-on all night. It was awesome.

  • LaBrie is the best! And for those of you complaining: I doubt you could sound anywhere near as good. And you didn't even ruputure your vocal cords like him!

  • DT wouldn't be the same without LaBrie. I dare you to contemplate that. LaBrie is as much of a DT pioneer as is Portnoy or Myung.

  • I disagree totally. There was even a point where DT considered kicking him out themselves because of his poor performance.

  • Evidence please?

  • Have you tried reading DT's book ? They discuss all of the issues they have over-come from the start. They were going to kick James Labrie out because of his gross performance during the 6 Degrees Tour. Labrie's vocals were at best in the early 90's because he damaged his vocal chords from throwing up for a week straight with REALLY bad food poisoning and his tone was never the same.

  • Ahh. The only Dream Theater book I've read is the Scenes From A Memory tab book. :P

  • no they are at their best right now..some of his performanes wre inded shit in the late 90's early 2000 but last cople albums and tours he has been spot

  • That's like Petrucci losing some fingers and still playing. Incredible effort. If you can't respect that, you have no respect for yourself. Great comment.

  • Yes, indeed. And on youtube there are videos of him kicking out fans from stage, being agressive, falling and all that stuff, ALL FROM THAT TOUR. They really were thinking about kicking him out.

  • That is exactly the opposite of truth. James wanted to leave but the rest of the band really pushed him to stay. He was getting depressed but they agreed there is no one else that would create the DT sound.

  • For some reason, I'm starting to think that labrie sings this song better than he does in some dream theater songs

  • That because Dream Theater uses very advance type of singing that even he can't sing him self. If you listen to Dream Theater covers of Pink Floyd or hear him sing in Ayreon it's totally different from his Dream Theater vocals.

  • He writes in the style that he could sing back before the food poisoning. Doctors said he would never get his high range back. He proved them wrong. I give him my support.

  • First of all I'd like to state I'm a huge Opeth and Dream Theater fan; but the vocals in Opeth are much easier than Dream Theater's for the majority of their singing material.

That is exactly the mood Opeth is trying to achieve though, he wants it to sound minimalistic and effortless.

I enjoy both and have great respect for Michael and James.

  • Well, I have to disagree with that some.

I agree, it's hard as hell to hit the notes that James hits, but it's just as hard to hit those really low growl notes that Mikael hits.

  • deathnight? wth

  • I agree. They are both outstanding vocalists.

  • I hope they release a DVD of Progressive Nation

  • Awesome dress of La'brie. His image is just stunning.

  • id love to see labrie try some of the heavier stuff lol

  • Che emozione Opeth e Dream Theater insieme!

  • Nice vid! LaBrie did great!

  • I actually thought LaBrie was alright

  • ufff opeth the best

  • I was there!

  • LaBrie may have a somewhat grating high register. But when he sings the mellower stuff, he is fantastic.

  • Lol, you are a fool. If you don't like LaBrie why, pray, would you click on a video which says "in my time of need with james labrie"??

  • Cool.

  • amazing!

    beautiful!

  • my favorites progressive bands together! men this is awesome..

  • GREAT! I just wish there was a higher quality video of this *_*

  • LaBrie is singing very soft and toned down in this. I think he sounds wonderful. I really prefer it to his high singing.

  • i would have loved to see these 2 bands play together. i've been a dt fan for a long time but i just recently got into opeth. they are fucking bad ass though!!!!!!!!!

  • omg that would be fucking awsome!man u r killing me...

  • It's nice to see that when LaBrie contributes on an Opeth song, fans are appreciative, presumably because people who listen to DT and Opeth are intelligent, and they don't throw pathetic insults a each other. They're both ridiculously awesome singers and bands, and their talent is exhibited fantastically right here.

  • I would love to see this in better quality, I would have shit myself seeing this live.

  • i love both bands...

  • i love both of these bands and this tour was just great i hope that there is another prog nation

  • Mike Portnoy stated on the offical forums of the Prog Nation site that there would be another one in 2009. I just hope they bring Opeth back for the next PN tour :D

  • nice shorts james
