  • I like Windows, the guy who looks like Hyde.

  • Palmer is my type of guy..lol..NOT!

  • @GreenDinoRanger

    It's Colin.

  • @5xOver ah, thank you

  • @5xOver The prequal does not show him killing himself. Unless it was deleted scene.

  • @DerektheDuctTape in the ending credits it shows him dead with a slit throut and nobody else would of killed him and if the thing did it would of absorbed him so its obvious he killed himself

  • Can someone please remind me who the dead guy in the chair with the slit throat and wrists was, because i can't remember him from the prequel movie

  • @GreenDinoRanger if u watch closley near the end of the new one u find out

  • @havelockify thank you

  • @GreenDinoRanger if u watch the of the end of the new one carefully u will find out

  • "I doubt if anybodys talked to anybody on the entire continent...and you want me to me to reach somebody?!" "I was wondering when the Capeetan is gonna get the chance to use his popgun.." "Bullshit, brother! 5 minutes is enough to put a man over down here...I mean look at Palmer, he;s been this way since the first day." what dialogue. tense, witty and grit. thats precisley what the new prequel lacked in every breathing moment

  • Lars got killed because the other guy wanted to rescue a dog instead of a human life?Wow...

  • 7:08 Now I know how the axe got there watching thing 2011...but the axe looks rusty, it needs to be covered in blood.

  • Can't beleive it isn't blocked., oh? of course? let this on u tube,

  • "anybody there?..HEY SWEDEN!" hahahh

  • remember a lot about this movie but the beginning 20 or so mins until i saw the ending of the new one last night the second the dog runs out and lars says "that's no dog" i turn to my wife sorta with a quiet yell explaning the beginning of this one how the new one is a prequel i was so excited haha it all just came back to me 8-)

  • PALMER ROCKS

  • not to be "that guy" but yes they did say norris had a heart condition in the tv version they did discuss it

  • @TheUnreal53 If you're talking about the voice-over narration at the beginning of the TV version of The Thing in the 80's that mentions Norris having a heart condition, that part was added on by the TV network and was not part of Bill Lancaster's screenplay for the theatrical version. NBC did the same thing with Halloween when they asked Carpenter to film additional scenes for the television broadcast. It's not part of the storyline from the movie. Norris had no heart condition in the film.

  • @TheUnreal53 This is how Norris is described i John W. Campbell's original story, 'Who Goes There?': "Vance Norris moved angrily. He was comparatively short in this gathering of big men, some five-feet-eight, and his stocky, powerful build tended to make him seem shorter. His black hair was crisp and hard, like short, steel wires, and his eyes were the gray of fractured steel. If McReady was a man of bronze, Norris was all steel." (cont'd)

  • @TheUnreal53 (cont'd) " His movements, his thoughts, his whole bearing had the quick, hard impulse of steel spring. His nerves were steel – hard, quick-acting – swift corroding." Doesn't seem like a guy suffering from a weak heart.

  • Windows kinda looks like Hide from "That 70's Show"

  • @AK47masterpiece i've had that same thought since i saw this movie 6 years ago... good to know i'm not the only one who thinks that :D

  • what do you think happened to that girl if this is supposed to be the sequel to the one that's out now?

  • @DaMostEnigmatic Well, either she froze to death out in the Snowcat or she made it to the Russian camp after staring blankly into space.

  • @spiritgirl41192 I've got my money on her freezing to death mainly becasue she was just way too slow to take action with anything

  • holy shit was this movie made for a prequel? in the new one it shows how the ax got there it showed the dead guy in the chair and the ice block room looks just like the one in this movie, they did a great job.

  • wow I remember how that axe got there from the Prequel

  • @ 5 inches in front of the tail rotor: Obvious sign is Obvious!

  • trolls rule below. enjoy the film and thank the poster. all else is folly.

  • Best script Carpenter ever wrote.

  • @TheIntruders Unfortunately, John Carpenter didn't write the screenplay for 'The Thing,' Bill Lancaster did.

  • just 2 let everyone know they made a sequel but its a comic book sequal called The Thing From Another world. you can get it at amazon.com.

  • LOL..."Fox" survived the subway after all...

  • Windows forgot to give Wiilford Brimley his ice cream and apple pie...

  • from 4:08 black cliches abounding 1980s style. listening to stevie wonder the black dude moonwalks to and from the freezer. rofl.

  • @055697 Not to mention being the cook! LOL, I'm black but I find some cliche's rather funny.

  • But I do agree, it looks more like Norris, the shadow's got like a turtle neck/high collar look to it and norris was wearing one

  • @xShadowxPhoenix yup you can tell by the shadow on the wall that's its Norris for sure.

  • the man at 5:04 is not palmer, its the guy that has a heart attack later on and turns into the little spider creature. Palmers hair doesnt match up with the shadow, and if you look back at 1:30 the guy who has a heart attack has the same collar and hair as the shadow.

  • @IXBlurredXI I agree with that

  • @IXBlurredXI Actually it was never confirmed by Carpenter, it's one of those mysteries they wanted to leave in

  • @IXBlurredXI The man at 5:04 is not any memeber of the cast, as to not give away who the Thing might be. But it is generally assumed that it's Palmer, given Palmer's erratic behavior throughout the rest of the film. Norris is the man who has the heart attack, but he never acts as if he knows he's the Thing, so it's assumed he somehow ingested a particle of the Thing, or was infected in some other way, and was unaware that it was growing inside of him, hence his chest pains.

  • @44excalibur The thing doesn't grow inside you, it just consumes you, and makes a replica.

  • @LordofDarkness42 Incorrect. Fuchs noted that one small particle would be enough to infect an entire organism, which is why he suggested that they prepare their own meals and only eat out of cans. Norris was not assimilated by being consumed by the Thing, he somehow ingested a paritcle of the Thing and it assimilated him from the inside out, which is why Norris was experiencing chest pains and fell into caridac arrest.

  • @44excalibur No, you are full of shit and YOU are incorrect. Fuchs suggested a small particle would be enough to "TAKE OVER" and entire organism. Norris was completely assimilated and replicated. His chest pains were nothing to do with the process and everything to do with the fact that he *already* had a heart defect when he was assimilated, the Thing just replicated him perfectly, defects and all - it had to.

It clear that you know practically nothing about this movie, you should shut up.

  • @replyandyousuckballs From IMDB: The second possibility is that neither Palmer nor Norris know that the other is a Thing, though this is highly contested. Just because Palmer and Norris were both Things does not mean they were both Things at that given moment. We see later in the film Norris collapse. This is after Fuchs has informed us that a single cell of the Thing could (but not necessarily would) take over a whole person. Cont...

  • @44excalibur What? IMDB? Out of context and therefore of questionable meaning and value?....What, exactly, is YOUR point, not IDMB's?

Whatever it is, it cant be to support any of the ripe bullshit you came out with before, because it obviously doesn't - nor does it contradict anything I said, you fucking half-wit - it even says "take over" not "infect", so it agrees with me and you've undermined yourself, you colossal bitch. Cont...

  • @replyandyousuckballs Cont.... Considering the manner of Norris' death, it could be suggested that he had been infected by a Thing (either through saliva from the dog, infected food, whatever) and that at the crater Norris was still Human, albeit, an infected human.

Now sit down and be quiet, young man! :P

  • @44excalibur Cont...

Furthermore, I haven't argued against anything that's said here because nothing that's said here is what YOU said - which, let me remind you, was a crock of SHIT.

So, in summary: you are a clueless idiot. shut the FUCK up.

  • @replyandyousuckballs Anger management issues? You might have forgotten that Blair's computer used the word "infected" when caclulating the probability that one or more team memebers may have been "infected" by "intruder organism." Also, John Carptenter himself mentioned in the DVD commentary that they weren't always sure that a person that had been infected by the organism would even be aware of it. Fuchs suggested eating from cans due to the possibility of ingesting an alien cell.

  • @44excalibur Again with what someone else [with a brain] has said? Infect-FUCK, cause not one single word of it supports YOUR stupid conclusion that Norris was experiencing chest pains because "he was assimilated from the inside out" - so, presumably, could Blair have been - but he didn't have a fucking heart attack. You know why? Cause giving heart-attacks would not be a very good way for an organism that relies on stealth to be assimilating people, you stupid bitch.

  • @replyandyousuckballs You realize you talk in circles and contradict yourself, right? And using profanity is an example of someone who can't win their argument. I base my statements on what the director has said and what had been established in the actual script, not on assumptions, like yourself. Blair had been assimilated while he was outside in the toolshed. If he were the Thing prior to that, he wouldn't have destroyed the helicopter. The Thing attacked everyone externally except Norris.

  • @44excalibur Point to one contradiction or shut the fuck up. You seem to base your statements on poor conclusions, that you draw incorrectly from invalid assumptions - mainly because you're a fucking backward bitch. Blair had been assimilated while he was outside the toolshed? Then prove it or shut the fuck up. As there's nothing that suggests assimilation is limited to a single traumatic event and everything that suggests it can also take place as a cell-by-cell attrition, you're a bitch.

  • @replyandyousuckballs If you actually paid attention to anything, you'll notice my exact words were "Blaire had been assimilated while he was outside IN the toolshed," not outside of the toolshed, genius. I suggest glasses or perhaps lasik if this is a problem for you. And the rest of your comment is nothing but gibberish. You can't make any argument that makes sense so you resort to profanity. give up already.

  • @replyandyousuckballs Norris had chest pains due to the organism inside of him. If Norris had a weak heat he never would have been cleared for a winter assignment in Antarctica. You said "an organism that relies in stealth wouldn't be giving people heart attacks," yet you forgot that MacReady said each individual part works on its own and "wouldn't obey when it's attacked. It would try to survive; crawl away from a hot needle, say." Also not a smart move for an organism that relies on stealth

  • It's just as reasonable that Blair was undergoing cell-by-cell assimilation, after compromising himself during that autopsy, but was still human enough to wreck the chopper. So fuck you.

No, I didn't forget what MacReady said, I just have enough sense to interpret it correctly and observe that the Thing displays intelligence that is in proportion to its size. The less bio-mass of it there is, the more it behaves on an instinctive level - and vice versa. So get fucked.

  • @replyandyousuckballs Then by your very own argument, it's also reasonable that Norris had been compromised by ingesting a particle of the oganism which grew inside of him. But if Blair had been infected during the autopsy, why weren't Fuchs and Copper infected as well? The particle has to enter the body somehow, and it's feasible that Blaire was assimilated by Palmer who would have attacked him while he was out in the toolshed. Pick an argument and stick with it or go home.

  • @44excalibur oh, maybe cause Fuchs and Copper didnt stick their fucking pen in Thing guts and then put the fucking pen in their mouth?...try that on for size you fucking backward, say-all, know-nothing cunt.

  • @replyandyousuckballs First of all, it was a pencil, not a pen. Second, Blaire never stuck the pencil into the Thing's guts, or elese there would have been blood and tissue on the eraser, which there was none. Blair only used it as a pointer. Third, Blaire, Fuchs, and Copper all wore surgeon's gloves while handling the carcass. I've seen this movie enough times to circle the moon and back, and I know it far better than you, little boy.

  • @44excalibur ooh a pen...the point stands, queer. maybe you should go watch it again, just in case, when he touches it, you can see individual cells adhere at the resolution of film in a medium shot - lol "implication" you stupid fucking clueless bitch.

second thought, dont bother it wont change anything as you're just tooooo fucking stupid. try cartoon network, you poor, poor remtard, i'm sure there is stuff there to meet your needs.

here's to another 30 years, you stupid fuck, LOL!....

  • @replyandyousuckballs The cells adhere at the resolution of film in a medium shot? Are you talking medical knowlegde or film school? I think you just throw out words to make yourself sound intelligent but your words make no sense at all. You're making yourself seem more idiotic by the moment, so you should quit while you're ahead.

  • @44excalibur you're obviously just too backward to understand simple english. get someone with a brain to read it to you. maybe draw some pictures. i wish them luck, lol.

  • @44excalibur and all about norris blah blah blah? more of your assumptions, you stupid bitch - who's to say even he knew he had a heart defect or that it was even detectable? Yeah, because in your backward world, heart defects are *always* detectable right, moron?

you are such a fucking clueless, idiotic and moronic fuck, its not even funny and it makes me retch to read your banalities. just fuck off.

  • @replyandyousuckballs It's not an assupmtion, little boy. All personell serving in Antarctica would undergo an intense physical examination to determine health. Also, if you actually paid attention to the movie you'd see that nowhere is it ever mentioned that Norris had ever a heart condition. Where exactly is is stated that he has a bad heart? Nowhere. So the chest pains he's experiencing are an indication that something else is going on inside of him. The only banalaties here are yours.

  • @44excalibur Go and fuck yourself you fucking idiotic queer, I just addressed that. What, no-one has ever dropped dead after appearing in perfect health? Shut the FUCK up.

If you had a fucking brain in your head you'd be able to understand and interpret movies at the level of an adult, not some downy kid. for an adult it doesn't need to be explicitly mentioned, it only needs to be implicitly implied - and no-one else experiences chest pains which makes you a fucking fucktard. stick to cartoons.

  • @replyandyousuckballs You're the one cursing up a storm and you're talking about being an adult? The only one with childish behavior is you, my friend, and I've been watching this movie and analyzing it ever since it came out on VHS in the 80's, so know your place. Why don't you stick to your vids of Fred Durst, who probably has more intelligence than you do. You haven't disproven anything I've said. If Norris had a heart condition then Carpenter would've mentioned it. He's not as stupid as you.

  • @44excalibur fuck off. if you've been analyzing all that time you've obviously wasted 30 years of your fucking tragic life, haven't you, you poor clueless fagget? i bet you wish you'd spent it masturbating at least you've had something to show for it. carpenter, blah, blah - carpenter doesn't make movies for downy fucks who need every tiny plot subtlety signposted. like i said stick to cartoons, bitch. also get yourself chemically castrated as a service to humanity, you stupid fucking numb.

  • @replyandyousuckballs Now you're using homophobic slurs in addition to profanity? Am i getting to you that much, little boy? the immature little wimp inside you came spilling out? Frustrated that you can't make an intelligent argument and only succeed in making yourself look like a moronic fool? Even your username is a joke, little boy. Grow up some more and then maybe you'll be ready to have a conversation with the adults.

  • @44excalibur *yawns* none of this garbage changes the fact that you're a clueless, queer, fucktard who has no idea. nice try, but FAIL.

    30 years. LOL!..

  • @replyandyousuckballs 30 years of school, relationships, travel, career in physical therapy. What have you got? :) Go home little boy.

  • @44excalibur haha, well it sounds as boring as FUCK. no surprise, you stupid clueless bitch.

you're all done. get the fuck out, tool.

  • @replyandyousuckballs Nope, you're done. You've proven yourself to be a whiney, immature, ignorant litte troll who has the brain capacity of a five year old and no real life experience whatsoever. That's why you lash out the way you do with one psychotic rant after another in order to compensate for the pathetic life you have(or don't have). Have a nice life, little boy.

  • @44excalibur Ah, stop crying you pathetic loser. Even if any of that garbage was true, I still make you look like a fucking backward an clueless bitch without even one grain of sense in his head, so how does that taste?

And, by the way: it was easy. Get the fuck out. You're finished.

  • @replyandyousuckballs With every insane, nonsensical rant you make, you only prove my point and make yourself look even more sad and idiotic. I've made you look like the empty headed toddler that you are. The really sad thing is that you're finshed before you've even begun. An immature, uneducated little wuss like yourself has no chance at life whatsoever. Sorry, little boy.

  • @44excalibur lol, oh my god you're so fucking WEAK! how could anything as weak as you even live? you're all over. say what you want to make yourself feel better at night, who the fuck even cares - we both know it wont make any difference and you still be the same big dumb fail come morning so yadda, yadda.

now would you just stop fucking crying? it's so tragic and i cant do anything for you. could you at least pretend to have some kind of pride for once in your life, you tremendous clown? LOL!..

  • @replyandyousuckballs Sorry, but the only one crying here is you with your incessant tantrums, profanity and desperate attempts at lame put-downs to compensate for your own inadequacies, all of which are a sign of pathetic weakness on your part. I take pride in my life enough to describe it in my comments, while you have nothing in your sad life to speak of. No accomplishments, education, relationships, nothing. The ony person you need to do something for is yourself, when you finally grow up.

  • @44excalibur *yawn*, back again? i wonder which region of your colon you do pull this endless dumbfuckery from?

like i said call it what you want but dont try and kid me as well as yourself. you're an idiot - and all your blab about your life is just a weak, passive-aggressive attempt to distract from the fact and convince someone of something, i dont know what and who the fuck cares.

i dont need to talk about my life cause i have nothing to prove. now go fuck yourself you clueless bitch, LOL!

  • @44excalibur Good points, but at the same time I still believe that norris may of been the first assimilated. Have you seen the trailer for the prequel? Its seems the Thing is some sort of giant insect, Im not surprised considering most of its forms in the original had insect like qualities such as the giant spider legs and such.

  • @IXBlurredXI Yes, but if Norris had been assimilated first, why is he having chest pains? Norris acted as if he was totally unaware that he had been infected, and nowhere in the script is it every mentioned that he or any of the other team members has any medical problems such as a heart condition. I also doubt that Carpenter would have Fuchs suggest preparing their own meals and only eating from cans to avoid ingesting a particle of the Thing if he wasn't foreshadowing something.

  • @44excalibur Well from what I understand The Thing copies its host perfectly, so that means any type of genetic disorder would also carry into the copy. Here's an example: say there was a crippled character in the film and he was assimilated, does that mean the copy would get up and start walking around? Of course not. Also I don't think the hosts would be aware if they were infected by a single particle, eventually The Thing would just take complete control.

  • @IXBlurredXI Exactly, that's why I think Norris was infected by ingesting a particle of the organism and was unaware it was growing inside of him, hence the chest pains. If any of the team members suffered any kind of heart condition, I believe Carpenter would have mentioned it. He's usually good with details like that. I also believe that Carpenter wouldn't have had Fuchs mention the "single particle" theory if he wasn't going to use it, like the nano-bombs in Snake Plisskin's neck.

  • @44excalibur Well I always thought that Blair was taken over by a particle from the first creature they found. If I remember correctly Blair poked the end of his pencil on the burnt body and then stuck the end right near his lips. Then he's left out in the small shed and eventually gets taken over and starts building that ship. To be honest there is no reason to get all worked up over a movie made 30 years ago, there just isn't enough information to have an absolute conclusion.Great Discussion

  • @IXBlurredXI Yeah, I understand. I'm only going by what I know of John Carpenter and what was in the DVD commentary and documentary. People do mention that part where Blair touches the pencil to his mouth, but I don't know if it ever touched the burnt remains, or if he or Carpenter would actually be that dumb. I assumed that the Palmer-Thing attacked Blair outside in toolshed after Fuchs' death, but that's me. I only got worked up over the profane attack that other guy made at me. Take care!

  • @44excalibur I didn't see if anyone responded to your question so pardon me if I'm being redundant, but Norris had a heart condition. And, as we all know, the Thing copies organisms perfectly, flaws and all...

  • @mykranili There is no scene or line of dialogue in the film that states Norris had a heart condition. John Carpenter never mentioned that Norris had any such condition in the DVD commentary. When the Thing copies you it also assimilates your memories(hence its abiity to speak English and know everything about the team members), so it would have been aware of any such condition if it existed and would not have been surprised by chest pains. People seem to "assume" Norris had a bad heart.

  • @mykranili In many of John Carptenter's films he foreshadows an event with a scene that gives the audience information, like the nano-bombs that Snake Plisskin has implanted in his neck in Escape From New York. When Fuchs tells MacReady that they should prepare their own meals and eat out of cans to prevent any particle of the Thing from being ingested, this is not a throw-away peice of information. Unlike Blair and Palmer, Norris acts totally unaware of the Thing growing inside of him.

  • @mykranili I apologize, I don't mean to be redundant either, but I'm just stating that if Norris had any heart condition them Carpenter would have mentioned it somewhere in the film. And if he had such a condition he would never have been cleared for a winter tour of duty in Antarctica. Carpenter also would never have had Fuchs mention the possibility of the Thing growing inside a person from a single particle being ingested if he wasn't going to use that scenario at some point in the film.

  • 5:04 shadow on the wall is blatantly palmer, i've seen forums argue over this countless of times but it's deffo palmer.

  • @vegunited06 It could also be the guy ( sorry if I cant remember the name ) who got defibrilated and whom´s chest opened to kill Blair.

  • Men! just enjoy the movie!!

  • @glasswalkereye exactly just enjoy the movie ,and quit bein drama queens

  • kurt russell sounds like a teenager. what the crap?

  • "what where they doing flying so low, shooting at the dog...shooting at us?"....dude, he wasn't shooting at them he was shooting at the dog! he accidentally hit him, but that's still no excuse to kill the guy by shooting him in the head....but that's the American way I guess: shoot and then ask questions...if the Norwegian had survived they would have gotten their answers and they wouldn't all end up fucking dead!!

  • @DeathWarrant90 when a man with gun comes towards you and shoots at your animal...its very unlikely that you would say "Er, sir, excuse, me, excuse me - would mind awfully not pointing that rifle at me old chap - perhaps we could discuss this over a nice cup of darjeeling?"

Characters reaction in this scene is completely believable - where ever they're from.

  • @dloverise the dog didn't belong to the Americans. The alien had copied a dog from the Norwegian Camp, how else would they know what it was? It's not like the Norwegians keep track of the animals in the American bases. The reaction was totally not believable 'cause the trigger-happy fag with the gun could have shot the Norwegian in the leg or the arm. But no, he had to kill him and with him all the answers that would have saved them!

  • @DeathWarrant90 But put yourself in thier place,if some crazy SOB landed in your camp shooting at everything in sight what you think,oh! thier just trying to kill that dog? of course not your first reaction would be to protect yourself and the rest of the men.
