If you're an FPS fanatic, as I am, you MUST get The Orange Box. My first exposure to Half Life came about in Half Life 2 on the original Xbox. It was blah. But I gave it another try with TOB on the 360 and it was like WOW haha. Half Life 2 does an amazing job in creating a universe of its own, very convincing I tell ya. Game play mechanics aren't state of the art but the ingenuity of the level design and meticulously orchestrated combats all play into making HL2, HL2 Ep1, HL2 Ep2 truly epic
Portal was surprisingly a satisfying experience as well even though a bit easy. The magic of Portal lies in its ability to trenscend a feeling of true progress. Many FPS play out kind of arbitrarily; as if the only indication of having beaten the earlier stages is the increasing difficulty level (there is no sense of eminent break through). With Portal, you REALLY do feel like you're getting somewhere and that there really is this enormous outside world waiting for you. Simply awesome...
Portal is not easy compared to most puzzle games. I don't think the below average mind could beat the game. My file save says it took me 2-3 hours to beat the game, but that is not true. I spent a lot of hours playing the game and it made me dizzy.
