I love the costumes and set, production design for this Aida; I love it when opera companies produce authentic operas based on their original look! Verdi would have no trouble recognizing this as being his Aida; today's post modern crap makes operas look nothing like what the composers wanted them to look, which is a great dishonor to them. Aida was a grand spectacle, the most lavish Verdi ever made along with Don Carlo

Zajick sounds much better live. Through microphones, her vibrato could be a little bit too much. In any case, she sounds good here, and the picture is very clear. However, together this not a great performance. Even the old recording from Tokyo with Simionato/Stella has a better performance because all the singers are loud yet well- balanced. The opera is Aida after all --- even Zajick needs a great Aida, a great Radames, etc.

OMG.. Dolora never ceases to amaze me. I have seen her sing most of not all her Vverdi roles and it's just amazing.

Sad truth is, Aida as an opera is musically amazing, when properly staged, a feast for the eyes, but with the exception of the couple of controntation scenes it has very little actions and offers few opportunities for serious acting. Never the less is this one of Verdi's best.
