Nice car, looks so big compared to all the newer ones on the road. Believe it or not, they used this car in the 1980s TV series "Highway to Heaven" starring Michael Landon.
i dont understand why they had two LTDS? this one and the one with the hidden headlights? why not just make one car, whats the difference? both are huge with V8's?
what do you mean ford did some wierd stuff?....no different then the mid size gm's of the day ..get into a 76 monte carlo or a malibu and it was the same car...and the olds cutless ..pontiac...buick..they all shared the same basic design
Awesome long ago i had a 1978 LTD II 302 V8 black ext. red int. my 1st car...it ruled ! i so took out the door buzzer, blew a power steering hose in it once, only to find it had a odd Saginaw pump. which was not "easily" accesible ? it took me two weeks to find the silly hose... thru a friend... and i dont even think it was for that model... just the threads lined up? this car had a sweet ride and the coldest a/c goin, i kept the hood ornament, and the hubcap emblem with the 3 cats, Thank You !
Really nice car. I like it as well. The colour combo looks great. My cars is a 1978 LTD-II, bright blue in colour and equipped with the 351W and FMX trans. I love it. Greetz from Germany! ;o)
I just bought a 1977 Ford LTD. Looks very similar to this except the headlights are horizontal, not vertical. I will try to upload a video of it soon.
My dad inherited my grandfather's LTD II. It was bright baby blue and I had to learn to drive on it. Talk about a barge but good lord, the ride quality!
I have the same year, but it's an S base package with the 351 Windsor motor and a piss-poor FMX tranny. The car rips down the highway, though! Made it to 115, and chickened out.
Hey, I have a 1977 LTDII 2 door. I posted a video response of a song I made, but it has me driving around with it. Mine had a 351m in it, but I put a 460 in it, dual exhaust, 3.70 gears, new 4 barrel carb, new rims and tires. Mine is a brougham also. These cars didn't have big blocks as an option, but the torino did, so you can easily put one in. They are fun cars, enjoy it.
I need to pull the engine out of this one and do some work to it. That sticky lifter is really annoying and I need to replace the pan gasket because it leaks pretty bad. Ideally I'd like to find a 351 Windsor or a 302 HO out of a late model mustang for it.
if you can find a 78 or older 460 with tranny it will swap rieght in with the right motor mounts. They can be found on ebay often. After that put a bigger radiator in, and you're set. To me that doesn't sound like a lifter, maybey a rocker arm, or a loose bearing. Run it till it dies, and save while you can.

NICE! How much was it? Even though it has 100K miles, it is a classic car and in good condition.
