I think Afghanistan will be the last straw that will break the camels back. Every superpower that has entered Afghnaistan has come out destroyed back at home.

@dunkiemon, I won't be surprised if that your statement holds true as that is exactly what happened to Russia. Only issue with Russia is that we did intervene and train the Afganis if history is correct on that one. In effect we made them terroists to begin with. What is really scare is the future of the U.S. military where robotic drones will be used instead of people. Seems neither side trusts the other enough that there still has to be a need for a strong military on both sides. Stupid.

@iloveterriers, for some reason I just don't trust the govt. as much since they seem to be terrible stewards nowadays when it comes to good fiscal policy. This on top of the 6 figure salaries they make so eventually something has to give.

Also, people laid off in late 2009 especially are not getting any unemployment extensions. Only those laid off initially in 2007 and 2008 keep getting all the extensions. If Congress doesn't do something about this soon, a lot of unemployed peoples' benefits will run out this January and February and early March. I just got this info. from EDD when I called them.

@iloveterriers A 10 mo extension of unemployment has been submitted recently. The problem with extending unemployment, is that it has allowed co to lay people off to extend their profit margins, passing the cost on to the Fed gov. I'm not saying there shouldn't be extensions, but there has to be a way to curb what's going on with Wall St.

Type in "Unemployment Extensions Are a Blatant Lie" on Google and an article will come up regarding this. The way the strict cut-off deadlines work, not everyone is getting the extensions, I highly recommend reading that article.

Your right in a way. Each extension applies to the time period in which you were laid off. They are not retroactive. In other words, if you just were just laid off, you wouldn't get past extensions granted to those who were laid off last year, only extensions going forward from the date you lost your job.

@iloveterriers don't know what programs your state has when one is on unemployment but I managed to keep busy and take a few computer courses in between job assignments. The trick one can't sit on their ass and if they have access to free training take and show a prosepective employer your certs. of completion.
