  • pippin's voice is amazing. but he needs to stop moving so quickly.

  • Charlemagne is awesome.

  • Much better than most of the crap out for this show.

  • ahh, this misses the Ziprodt costumes, as well as Fosse's staging - but it is still interesting :o) Pity there isn't a record of dear Elizabeth Welch's Berthe....I had the pleasure of working on the 1973 London transfer :o)

  • Is it just me or could the vocal volume be better? I can barely understand them over the music!

  • This is good, but you're really missing the wonderful Fosse choreography. He gives the musical a really distinct flavor.

  • I'd be willing to bet that Fosse didn't choreograph this production. I think the chance at originality is what makes musical theater so much fun. So, I appreciate the difference.

  • Do you 'Kind of Woman' from this show?

  • everyone is getting this wrong pippin was wrote in 1967 and it was stephen schwartz's first musical and was written for this drama group originally and it was called pippen but later discovered by bob fosse and he took it to broadway in 1972 and stephen schwartz's carrer started from then onwards just to clear this polava up!

    common mistake tho

  • Really nicely sung. Production looks awesome.

  • This is really great but FYI, Pippin hasn't been around for 40 years. 1972-now isn't 40 years.

  • sorry; i still do my math with an abacus...and they didn't teach it well in schools...

i think it might have been the 40th anniversary of the first student run, which maybe preceded the official opening?

  • steven schwartz wrote pippin in 1972. It premiered in 1973. It's 2007. That's 35 years.

  • Actually, Pippin premiered as "Pippin, Pippin" at Carnegie Mellon University in 1967 BEFORE it's 1972 Broadway run. Scotch'n'Soda was the student theatre organization that presented it.

If you check Schwartz's website FAQ it explains this in brief.

  • thanks a million for straightening out the math police. my sister was minimally involved at carnegie way back then

  • The faster tempo is indeed what this song needs within the context of the musical. It is the first song in the show (following the opening number, of course) and our introduction to the character of Pippin. And with the songs full intention essentially being expressed within the first verse, it is imperative it has energy and movement. Combined this with the fact that it is a non-specific "I want" song- in the "something's coming" family- it must convey the excitement of the unknown as well.

  • I personally feel that "corner" should be at that tempo, driving, propelling Pippin and the story forward. It gives this "I want" song more urgency.

  • is it just me or is corner of the sky a bit fast bt still gr8

  • I love it

  • This song is loved.

    good

  • really great stuff

  • This definitely nailed Pippin. In that it didn't need a set or anything elaborate at all. It nailed the feel right on. Even the choreography worked because it lived!

  • the wide shot definitely helps get a better idea of the piece's staging and the choreography - nice!
