Do your self a favor and look up the quarter mile times for both cars. From a stand still, an STi will completely wreck a 335i. From what I've heard and seen, stis and 335i s appear to be even from roll races. There is a thing called DRIVETRAIN LOSS, please look that up aswell.

chrismd7...actually like I mentioned, I own both cars. I drive them both quite quite frequently and I know which is faster. Let's not get into chips or anything, I'm talking stock. And you have to understand that the "Est. 0-60mph" doesn't necessarily apply. Remember, those figures are estimated with a professional driver in mind. I am not a pro, but I can attest to the variance in performance between these two cars. Also, Porsche usually states a higher 0-60 est. just to be on the safe side.

lbuller...While I agree with what you're saying, the 335i is actually very close in straight line performance to a Cayman S. Both do 0-60 in just under 5 seconds and the 1/4 mile around 13.5. On a track is a different story...the Porsche rules. I agree the 911 turbo is in a different class. However, the Cayman S does not OWN a 335i in a straight line. Also, a $2K chip in the 335i and it WILL crush the Cayman S in a straight line...1/4 miles about 12 flat, 0-60 in 4.2.

Either way, put a 1300 piggyback chip in the 335i, and it does 12.3 seconds. Check out shiv from vishnus video on here, he ran a 12.3 at 117mph. Thats as quick as a GT3, and considering it doesnt need a 6000rpm clutch drop like the GT3 does, its damn impressive. It does 5-60mph times quicker then a gt3
Ah lets see, every magazine in the states, in asia and Australia has shown the 335i to be running faster 1/4 mile times then a Cayman S.
The Cayman S gets the Jump in this clip because it has superior throttle response, and it would have been sitting at 6000rpm in 3rd gear at 80-90mph ( right in its sweet spot), it gets a jump, but as soon as it changes into the next gear, the 335i catches it and overtakes.
All the magazines achieved better times for the 335i then the Cayman S from a Dig, let alone from a role, its kind of obvious the 335i is quicker in a straight line. Plus the 335i is well under-rated, and dyno 290rwhp which equates to over 350 hp at the flywheel.
The Cayman is a great, focused car, but anyone whoes driven one knows they are abit underdone in the engine department ( although the top end is quite nice).

Here's where you all come in (mind you I'd keep either car stock). Both cars are powerful and engaging to drive. I would have to give the edge to the Cayman, however. 1) While the BM was "sufficiently" exciting, the Porsche made me grin the entire time that I drove it. 2) But, both Caymans in $ range are strippers

Whether you want to belive it or not thats the fact and the fact is the cayman s is a sports car,the best thing about the bmw is I can take 4 people as its a fast 2 door saloon.
I belive you have only tested the bmw try the cayman s with sport chrono and Pasm.
Only people who have never driven nor owned either of these cars would both sticking up for the Cayman S.
The 335i is the most underated car there is, its quicker then a stock E46 M3, it puts out near 340hp stock and does as low as 13.2 sec 1/4 miles stock.
The V2 procede 335i has 430hp and is good for a mid to low 1/4 mile at 111+mph trap speed.
Search on youtube and youll see a 50k 335i leave a carrera S behind!
I own both the bi turbo BMW e90 335i and cayman s and thought i'd let you know the cayman s is faster o to 60 and go's on to 178 mph top speed in my 335i gives up at 153mph and it all depends on the driver if he's willing to go to the limit , the cayman s is also far superior around the bends and lapped the nurburgring faster both the new v8 m3 and 911 997 3.6.
he was racing, it was only a porche cayman, nothing special....you can see by the speed they were at and where the porche was according and the RPMs they were at as well...
Hardly anything worse in a motor sports related video than people who actually think we want to hear their music track over the engine.

My M5 has 394 hp. Cayman only has 295; 335i has 300hp. I would smoke both of these cars.

are you really that naive? how do you even know it was an S? could just be a 2.7/245hp. All that is second to the fact that they backed out around 100, they weren't racing you. These videos irritate me, everyone thinks they have the fastest car and everyone they pull up next to is "racing" them. At least be real about it, there was no vs here. And I would be happy to back it up with my Cayman S, no question about it. At least I know I'm not the fastest on the road!!

lbuller, u crackhead, the 335i beats a cayman s man. type in top gear 135i (same engine) vs porsche cayman s and it beats it around a track!!! BMW are drivers car jsut like porshe, dont get me wrong, i love porsche but bmw 335i can take out a cayman s anyday. As for the 911, yea....you do need a M series, that you are right bout.

The 135i on top gear is tested against a 2.7 cayman and not the cayman S watch the video from the begining ,type in top gear cayman s vs 135i and you still get the stats for the the 2.7 cayman ,Bmw m3 won't beat a caymans s round a track forget the 335i.

chrismd7...actually like I mentioned, I own both cars. I drive them both quite quite frequently and I know which is faster. Let's not get into chips or anything, I'm talking stock. And you have to understand that the "Est. 0-60mph" doesn't necessarily apply. Remember, those figures are estimated with a professional driver in mind. I am not a pro, but I can attest to the variance in performance between these two cars. Also, Porsche usually states a higher 0-60 est. just to be on the safe side.

lbuller...I'm not referring to estimated 0-60 times. I'm talking about professional driver testing. Stock, they are very similar in a straight line. BMW also underreports their numbers. Do a dyno search on a 335i. It puts out closer to 350HP and 340 torque. My point is that a Cayman S will not "own" a 335i in a straight line. I've also driven both cars. What kind of work does a 22 y/o do to make enough money to own both a 335i and a Cayman S?...lol.

Actually I own two furniture stores. Some of us just have a destiny to succeed and others don't. Fortunately, I'm on the path to success. Hey, I started at 18, and to own anything less, would probably mean I chose the wrong profession. lol, right back at you. I'm actually looking into a ZO6 Vette now. My Cayman is fast, but the vette would be a monster, and for the price, you can't go wrong.

There are many ways to make money, but you're lucky you've done so well without a college degreee. The Z06 is a decent choice.

The guy who posted this video is a total idiot! I'm not saying a 335i is slow, it's pretty fast, my wife drives one. But I drive a Cayman S and I know for a fact it's a lot faster than the 335i, especially at turns. He also posted himself supposedly racing a 911 Turbo and it seems he's keeping up, LMAO! Yeah 'effen right bro! If either one of these Porsche's was actually racing, you would have been OWNED! You need an M series BMW to even think of competing with a real Porsche! Go race a Civic!

lbuller...While I agree with what you're saying, the 335i is actually very close in straight line performance to a Cayman S. Both do 0-60 in just under 5 seconds and the 1/4 mile around 13.5. On a track is a different story...the Porsche rules. I agree the 911 turbo is in a different class. However, the Cayman S does not OWN a 335i in a straight line. Also, a $2K chip in the 335i and it WILL crush the Cayman S in a straight line...1/4 miles about 12 flat, 0-60 in 4.2.

No need to charge Either. gt3 - another league but the STOCK cayman use the revs and down changes hard enough bmw not going any were.and it will make mince meat out of it on the twists and top end.

E90 sold due to the fact its not as good as the e92 coupe on top end could only get 158mph top end without restricter.
and also new car on the way which i test drove i35 same twin turbo engine but lighter
more rigid/agile better suspension then 335i as sports in stock to cope with high speeds is a better contender and with chip better.

Manufacturer restricts top speed to 155mph due to the fact that the suspension brakes can't cope above that speed although the engine will cope but will start stripping the car unless its a M BMW,AUDI RS OR PORSCHE/FERR/LAMBO which all have better tools ,traction/stability and aerodynamics at high speed.

but stick elec $120 super charger on the air intake and chip on the cayman s from shore
line tech as i have will give 40 extra horses
and 30 lbs foot of trq through out the the entire rev range.and it already has the speed/agility/tools and cornering ability like no other in its class.

Either way, put a 1300 piggyback chip in the 335i, and it does 12.3 seconds. Check out shiv from vishnus video on here, he ran a 12.3 at 117mph. Thats as quick as a GT3, and considering it doesnt need a 6000rpm clutch drop like the GT3 does, its damn impressive. It does 5-60mph times quicker then a gt3

Ah lets see, every magazine in the states, in asia and Australia has shown the 335i to be running faster 1/4 mile times then a Cayman S.
The Cayman S gets the Jump in this clip because it has superior throttle response, and it would have been sitting at 6000rpm in 3rd gear at 80-90mph ( right in its sweet spot), it gets a jump, but as soon as it changes into the next gear, the 335i catches it and overtakes.

All the magazines achieved better times for the 335i then the Cayman S from a Dig, let alone from a role, its kind of obvious the 335i is quicker in a straight line. Plus the 335i is well under-rated, and dyno 290rwhp which equates to over 350 hp at the flywheel.
The Cayman is a great, focused car, but anyone whoes driven one knows they are abit underdone in the engine department ( although the top end is quite nice).

3) I think the 335 looks better, but don't like that I see E90 3s everywhere. 4) While I like to fancy myself a purist, I can't ignore that the 335 is more practical. 5) Finally, in the Cayman, I have to consider what Clarkson said about pulling up alongside a 997 and "feeling like I'm standing next to a horse at a urinal," if you get my drift. While this is probably the best decision I've ever had to make, it's also absolutely one of the hardest. Thanks. Sorry for the length.

I stopped in at my local Audi/Porsche dealer today to have my A4 serviced. I noticed a couple of 07 Cayman Ses, reduced to fit squarely in $ range of the 335.
Here's where you all come in (mind you I'd keep either car stock). Both cars are powerful and engaging to drive. I would have to give the edge to the Cayman, however. 1) While the BM was "sufficiently" exciting, the Porsche made me grin the entire time that I drove it. 2) But, both Caymans in $ range are strippers

The fact that you wont accept that with a Chip in a 335i, the cayman would get so badly beaten youd need a map and GPS to work out which direction the 335i went, shows you are completely biased.
Go have alook at all the videos on here of a 335i beating m5s, carrera S, Sl55 and more with a procede in it

The 335i and Cayman S are neck a neck from a dig to 1/4 mile ( stock), but on the roll a 335i will own a cayman s any day of the week due to its greater spread of torque.

I have 2 best friends who own them, we have raced countless times, and they can never beat me.
To say the Bmw will be a small dot in the rear view suggests your Porsche Cayman is running a 10 second 1/4 mile.
The quickest a Cayman will run is 13.4 seconds

Whether you want to belive it or not thats the fact and the fact is the cayman s is a sports car,the best thing about the bmw is I can take 4 people as its a fast 2 door saloon.
I belive you have only tested the bmw try the cayman s with sport chrono and Pasm.

Only people who have never driven nor owned either of these cars would both sticking up for the Cayman S.
The 335i is the most underated car there is, its quicker then a stock E46 M3, it puts out near 340hp stock and does as low as 13.2 sec 1/4 miles stock.
The V2 procede 335i has 430hp and is good for a mid to low 1/4 mile at 111+mph trap speed.
Search on youtube and youll see a 50k 335i leave a carrera S behind!

At launch the manual porsche will nose ahead of the bmw at the bends the bmw will just be a dot in the rear view mirror of the cayman in the horizon.
U tube car's are often modified and if you drive any porsche which is modified or tuned eg Ruf or Gambella you won't be chanting bmw's.
A long time ago I gave up using Bmw's as sports cars after owning a 911.
and I now know why they are 17 times le-man champs ,No other manufacturer comes close. I2016

I own both the bi turbo BMW e90 335i and cayman s and thought i'd let you know the cayman s is faster o to 60 and go's on to 178 mph top speed in my 335i gives up at 153mph and it all depends on the driver if he's willing to go to the limit , the cayman s is also far superior around the bends and lapped the nurburgring faster both the new v8 m3 and 911 997 3.6.

A 335i would beat a cayman S, no real suprise there. A Procede 335 will be pretty much any porsche bar a 911 turbo ( touch and go with a Carrera S)
