Wealthy people would still pay more money if the tax rate remained the same percentage for everyone. It's a PERCENTAGE of the amount they make, not a flat amount. Why is it fair that I have to pay 30% of MY money, and others have to pay less? Is it because I work hard to earn my money and the people who have less money need to be helped out? I have no problem paying taxes at a reasonable level, but it isn't fair that I need to pay a higher percentage just because I can make more money.

My brother in law is currently putting himself through med school, which is a $150,000 tab for him. So even though he will be making a substantial amount, with the interest on the loans he's taking out it will take him over ten years to pay off the loans while at the same time being heavily taxed by the government. Everyone pays the same at the bottom--the first say $30,000 or $40,000 of income goes to food, housing, a car, gas, insurance, clothing, furniture, etc. Depending on family, lifestyle, etc. And everyone pays the same taxes on those things. And property taxes. Even though it is much harder for those earning $30,000 than those earning $200,000.
The solution really should be to have a simple and relatively flat tax rate so that the rich people can't find loopholes IMO.

Wealthy people would still pay more money if the tax rate remained the same percentage for everyone. It's a PERCENTAGE of the amount they make, not a flat amount. Why is it fair that I have to pay 30% of MY money, and others have to pay less? Is it because I work hard to earn my money and the people who have less money need to be helped out? I have no problem paying taxes at a reasonable level, but it isn't fair that I need to pay a higher percentage just because I can make more money.

My brother in law is currently putting himself through med school, which is a $150,000 tab for him. So even though he will be making a substantial amount, with the interest on the loans he's taking out it will take him over ten years to pay off the loans while at the same time being heavily taxed by the government. So is it unfair for him to be comfortable after working through the debt?

theres tax cuts on the lower and middle class (and small tax increases on the upper class, such as her father). THis gives the middle class purchasing power. They buy things from corperations. Corporations stocks go up. The upper class that has money in the bank or invested makes large profits in the stock market, much more than they lose in a tiny tax increase.

(And note that it's nearly 70% for those that hit $0 tax burden for one or more years)

You could twist her question around and ask "why are the poor penalised proportionately higher in real terms than those who can pay more?", of course, this is "unamerican" and "undemocratic" - although it goes against the true premise of democracy (see Aristotle).

I agree. I think it is tragic how his party has undone him. I so very much admire this man and I feel he, in theory, deserves the presidency, but because he has had to twist himself into what his party demanded, he has likely lost some of that deservedness.

No one explained to the bimbo that progressive taxes are a development in Western civilization to achieve the "fairness" she thinks is so important.
Everyone pays the same at the bottom--the first say $30,000 or $40,000 of income goes to food, housing, a car, gas, insurance, clothing, furniture, etc. Depending on family, lifestyle, etc. And everyone pays the same taxes on those things. And property taxes. Even though it is much harder for those earning $30,000 than those earning $200,000.
