A great example that you dont need to play a million notes a second to be one of the greatest guitarist in the world thank you for your music Mr. Gilmour
so many people think that the meaning of playing guitars is playing a solo with a lot of notes, and a day you put up a division bell disc and ..... your conception of music is revolutioned. You hear a man that let you feel sensations that are hidden in your soul with a couple of notes that create the time to let you delight the music.
Listen to David touching the strings is like hearing the soft sound of the sea in a summer's morning while the sunlight irradiate your tearing eyes

@Ozdog08 ''guys i can tell you that gilmour was so far ahead of his time...''nope!!!he is still far away even today my fellow!!!I haven't found yet anyone playing with so much soul and so... let's say differently..
@MongoTheLloyd if gilmour didn't join pink floyd when sid left pink floyd would have been dead a long time ago.when gilmour joined the band sounded better all of a sudden no offence to sid lol.have you heard roger try and sing nowadays?he sounds like 90 year old, gilmour is still going strong he is clearly the best guitar player of all time.
@20symo09 Gilmour and Waters are not even comparable to Syd (and not Sid, mind you). Barrett has framed both musical, and lyrical perfection. While that is true, his work with the Floyd was of poor quality compared to what he later did as a solo artist, but definitely better than all the albums that followed including TDSoM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall and TDB. About the Gilmour/Waters dispute, they're both great musicians, they both contributed to the sound "equally".
@20symo09 Syd did not leave floyd, he was proving impossible to work with so they got gilmour in for live shows to play alongside Syd, things got progressivly worse and he was fired in 1968, he was a genius lyricist and song writer, but LSD and depression got the better of him, as good as Gilmour is he has to thank Syd for launching Floyd, Waters was the creative genius behind Dark Side and The Wall, to say one is better than the other is the wrong way to be looking at Floyd
@kingofskateop....... ill talk about them, as far as im concerned putting crosby and nash together with gilmour is equivelent to a musical dream team...awesome harmonies...great song
Crosby and Nash sound so good on this song, which must be the ultimate chill out song. I never get fed up of ths great music. I can do about six things at once too !
awesome....ok let me tak a big breath.....Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, and Gilmour.....could have been...would have worked...na...lets stick to mm both separete:)

@JAT763 Crosby and Nash. Stills had too much dignity to appear in this video, singing this whining, boring song. The lyrics made his arse pucker... and his IQ drop 50 points, temporarily. It has the same affect on many. That is why I turn the volume down.
What is your damn problem man? You sure spend a lot of time on here bitching about David Gilmore... We get it, you don't like him. Me, hes one of my musical heros, I have huge respect for him. I don't see why you cant show any respect for anyone else here you bitter ass hole. Here you go, results?search_query=roger+waters&aq=f , put that in and you get all the Roger Waters you want, its that easy. Go.
@YourOldGlory No kidding! I've usually been a Waters fan over Gilmour's, but we gotta remember that without each other, the Pink Floyd that has captivated so many of us for so long would never have been invented or played by anyone. There would be no Comfortably Numb, for instance. Personally, "On An Island" is what brought me back to David Gilmour as a fan recognizing and remembering his compositions, as did seeing Roger perform The Wall in Las Vegas in 2010. Consummate showmen, these guys!
Division Bell is one of the most valuable album than On An Island..... How could you dare to say such things.... All Pink Floyd's fans have been influenced on DIVISION BELL because the album itself is so powerful and their's no words dor that....
How can you said that : ''"On An Island" is what brought me back to David Gilmour as a fan recognizing and remembering his compositions''
@alan220781 Nope! As I said, "On and Island" brought me back... Division Bell? I've got it! The point is, I was divided as a child, but have come back to the important nature of EVERYONE'S compositions in the band as to what FIRST made it what it is now. I can see clearly, and love them all equally. It's the whole that matters, not the squabbles.
@JAT763 David Crosby and Graham Nash. Two of the best voices of this and the previous century, and the most amazing harmonies I've ever heard. Yep. That's them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@kertkiturze Aye... On An Island is a very ugly song. I agree. It's downright FUGLY, in fact. I wonder... if it so FUGLY, perhaps that had something to do with Gilmour getting fuglier and fuglier as he ages. he looks barely human now... and more like a bridge troll. Hey David... do you flee the daylight?
@AkisColdplay Yeah, because God knows, Gilmour fans can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Oh. I probably have to explain that... to the Gilmour fans. You can't do 2 things at once... like walk and chew gum... or as Mr. COldplay pointed out, you can't READ and listen at the same time. Or, somehow... reading controverial things somehow makes your ears incapable of hearing the laughable music echoing through the empty skulls.
Hope that was made clear. Hey, I tried. I know Dave's audience.
"No wonder you like David Gilmour. I mean, at the end of the day, he is in the same category of plastic, fake entertainment. He is just not worth as much, and probably not quite as talented. "
There are many fruit flies here with attention spans to match ,, pink floyd and all its members have allways been story tellers , Verbaly and thru their instruments,, there is not a story that can be told by screaming ,,, hence their style
@brb0713 TZo tell stories, one would have to actually WRITE a song(s). Gilmour had 3 (three) whole individual credits for songs he wrote... with 21 co-credits for DSOTM to TFC. Waters had over ten times the individual credits that Gilmour had, 37 (thirty-seven) credits, with 21 co-credits.
If Gilmour was telling a story... it would have been a real short one. Perhaps written for the short-bus crowd.
@brb0713 Ah. Not the most literate of insults. But you get a C- for effort. Just keep repeating "Yes we can! Yes we can!". No, actually most of you can't. So... "buh-bye. Go F__k off and duh-die!
@MongoTheLloyd All this coming from Mongoloid ,, Nice,,,,,,,,,,, This what happens when Bieber beliebers are allowed to play on their mommies computers while mommie cranks one out on the couch to 50 cent...Hint Justin wears his ladies pants down around his knees to give instant access for beliebers ,, Your gonna be eatin high on the hog tonight,,,,,, PS do fuck off but never die , i want you suffering in GaGa hell forever
@brb0713 Wow. You managed to figure out my name.... simply amazing. I bet that took you all night with your Websters. Bieber? Gaga? You sure seem to know much about them. No wonder you like David Gilmour. I mean, at the end of the day, he is in the same category of plastic, fake entertainment. He is just not worth as much, and probably not quite as talented. I wouldn't know though. When your mommy is finished buffing Justin's helmet and cleaning the rim, I'll ask her.
@FijifunXP The Pink Floyd will be nothing? In the present tense? I have news for you. Wright is "waiting for the worms". Literally, not figuratively. Rotten and forgotten. In a deep hole. he has a living-deficit-disorder. He's an ex-parrot, if'n you get my drift. Gilmour? He might as well be dead... after all, he looks and plays like a corpse.
Pink Floyd ceased to exist when the talent left (Roger Waters). Perhaps you are referring to Floyd's dumber brother, Pink Fraud... led by Dave's wife?
@MongoTheLloyd *Golfclap* I'm glad wikipedia gave you some ammunition to cont being a douchbag. To call Roger Waters the talent of pink floyd is the most ignorant thing to say, but douchebags like you assume that because Waters wanted to wander off and jerk himself off to his feelings of alienation. Thanks Roger, we liked The Wall, but performing it live today only because you have the rights is the most sellout thing to do. We like the wall, but get over yourself...both of you.
@FijifunXP 37 writing credits to 3. The value between a Roger Waters and a David Gilmour. I didn't make up the facts son, and they certainly don't come from wiki. They come from the albums. Thirty severn writing credits. to Gilmour's three. Gilmour, who couldn't fart out a song that was worthy of Pink Floyd recording, if his life depended on it. Fortunately, it didn't. he had Waters providing for his care and maintenance. Pansy little Gilmour-groupies like yourself won't change the facts, boy.
@MongoTheLloyd You're sooo wrong. David is still making good music, but Roger... what is he doing now? The Wall, The Wall... bla, bla, bla... He can't even sing. Get over it. Roger was a great artist, but he's a joke of himslef, a "parodia".
Lolol David Gilmour is a great guitarist who developed his own style. If ANYONE from the Pink Floyd is a sell out it would be Roger waters and his boner for The Wall. Regardless, a great album from a great songwriter. Keep the dough rollin in...
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
w...t.....f are u chuckleheads talking about. David Gilmour has a right to every bit of acclaim and fame he has received. Even HE admits that as a guitarists he does not have the speed that others had hence, he had to develop his own style. Excuse me, but Elvis Presley didn't write 90% of his songs. There are A LOT of musicians out there that do not write most or even all of their music. So, shut it and get it up ya about David Gilmour.
@chef4cook Speed? what exactly does speed have to do with quality guitar playing? Nothing? Nothing at all?? Then why mention it, cretin. Yes... I am sure even David Gilmour admits that he isn't a great guitarist. If this song is any measure... I am sure he would also admit that he and his wife cannot write songs for SHITE. Yes, many musicians do not write their own music,... but then again, they also do not tour, play Waters songs as their own, and write crappy new songs under someone's brand.
@chef4cook I am sure Gilmour would admit he isn't a great guitarist. Exactly what does speed have to do with anything? Nothing? Nothing at all. ALL guitarists develop their own style... that is no accomplishment. Elvis didn't get hired into an existing band, do little, whine much, then take the songs and brand he didn't create so that he could become rich. Elvis didn't need to. Gilmour did. Gilmour, sir, is NO Elvis. So... you argument has been dealt with. Sorry your hero sucks... but he does.
Слушаю пинк флойд очень давно, есть много очень серьезных музыкальных групп, но пинк флойд и Гилмор одни такие и подобного никогда не было и не будут, реально № 1
@deviatea Yeah. 2/5. It was highly overrated. I would have given it 0/5, and then told Gilmour to stop writing songs with his girlfriend. Perhaps if Gilmour had the sense, he would have made the smart business and artistic decision to crawl back to Waters, and beg Waters to write him a few hits.
As to the other Crosby, Nash and Gilmour.... ahhhhh-guy that posted that a few days ago... the ONLY reason Crosby-Nash appears is to provide SOME semblance of talent to the laughable music and lyrics
@asdi40011 So was Davids Gilmour... when Roger Waters departed. Out of words. Completely. Gilmour had to go cry to his girlfriend... so that she would help him... which accounts for the lyrics on this laughable song. Good Christ. What an awful, horrible song. I bet when this song came out... Waters had a good chuckle.
@ubermandrew Gimour is 86 out of 100 top guitarists, based on the RS survey. He ranks right below Derek Trucks, and FAR below those towards the top, including Hendrix, Clapton, J. Garcia, and a host of others. Gilmour, with his massive 3 sole writing credits from the DSOTM to Final Cut, earned himself 1/2 a Grammy. Steve Vai, who doesn't yet appear on the greatest list (but soon will) has THREE Grammys, and far more albums and credits to his name.
Ahhh....endlich ein Landsmann. Ja, absolut bombastisch, der kann Gefühle & Stimmungen mit der Gitarre ausdrücken, wie kein Zweiter. Gilmour ist schlicht genial.
@hammermg1 Yeah... but what can you expect from a second-string, replacement guitar player? Gilmour didn't "make" Pink Floyd. Floyd was already a successful band by the time Gilmour was HIRED. That's right, HIRED. He wasn't a founding member. He wrote few (VERY FEW) of the songs. He got rich and famous off the work and genius of Roger Waters. Had Floyd hired someone else, the world would have never heard of David Gilmour. On An Island is a joke; a laughable mess.
@MongoTheLloyd Gilmour is a great musician, he joined pink floyd approached by nick mason, anyway Gilmour and Barret were friends from school. I dont mind if he wasnt a founding member, apart from founding the band, is most important what he contributed to the band. David Gilmour is as resposable of pink floyd success as Roger Waters is. I think they both, Richard Wright and Barret too were importat members to make pink floyd the most influential band in the world. My enhlish is not good, sorry.
@esteban6cuerdas Floyd was already a successful band. Gilmour, the 2nd string, replacement guitarist did not make it successful. Roger Waters made it successful. Waters wrote the VAST majority of the music, created the concepts for the albums, did the stage show and movie for The Wall, and more. Had Gilmour not been hired, he would still be an unknown today. He is only known and rich due to Roger Waters. Like the ungrateful cretin Gilmour is, he then sues for control of a group he didn't found.
@esteban6cuerdas Gilmour is not a "great musician". He is an average guitarist who fell into a band that had musical genius: Waters and Syd. Waters music and sheer luck created David Gilmour. If you want to taklk about Gilmour's sound... give credit where credit is due: to Hiwatt, perhaps Fender, and likely very good sound engineers that developed that sound FOR Gilmour. If I plug my rig into a Hiwatt, add a little compression, some echo, wah and uni-vibe, I can get the same PF sound.
@MongoTheLloyd Dude Glimore isnt a Technical guitarist but he can play and write with more feeling than anybody i know of...i have been playing guitar for 26 years mostly tech thrash and deathmetal, so i know he isnt the most Technical player but his writeing skills are amazing and saying he isnt a great musician is just silly..plus i consider his voice as much the voice of Floyd as waters any day!! I mean comfortably numb wouldnt be anything without Gilmore.
@TheWesx To correct your first error, it's Gilmour. Your second error... he doesn't write. At least not much. Waters had 37 solo credits between DSOTM-Final Cut. Gilmour? THREE. To correct your thrird error... well, I won't be petty and go after the incorrect "writeing". Three solo writing credits during the height of Floyd... that isn't "great". Ah.... and the lest error... common to most Gilmour fans... citing the Numb solo. One stupid solo doesn't equal 37, plus all the other work Waters did.
@TheWesx Oh... I missed one error. "Dude". Starting a sentence with "dude". Hell, using "dude: in a sentence to begin with. Son... I am a man. I ain't your "dude", Spicolli.
I have been playing guitar for about 30 years now. Acoustic and electric.; I write songs. I play in bands. I know a little about what it takes to write the songs. Waters is a great musician. He writes music and lyrics. Gilmour takes his stuff to his girlfriend, so that she can fart out a few verses. 37 to 3. Facts is facts
@MongoTheLloyd Alright DUDE whatever you say man, i wont argue with a know it all, just my 2cents..But i doubt you even play an instrument anyway after reading your posts, your probably some 12 year old spamming the net just to get attention.
@TheWesx Good. You shouldn't try to argue with a know-it-all, from what I see... "dude". Uh... think lower. At .02 cents, your contribution is overpriced. Yeah... 12... because Lord knows, 12 year olds object to idiotic "dude" conversations. (roll eyes here).
@TheWesx Now that's a stupid bit of generalized vomitus that means nothing. But, I bet you are full of that (shite). I don't much consider Gilmour to be a musician. His gilrfriend and Roger Waters deserve most of the credit. Your two cents, adjusted for the unwarranted inflation of your head and penis size, is worth exactly shite.
i hope they make some sort of time capsule age preventing machine cause david gilmour needs to be around for enternity, this man is a damn legend i only hope i get to see you in concert sometime soon
Just listening to his music is the perfect sound. Everytime i hear it i drift off into a place of harmony and satisfaction of happiness. if he ever tours again im there 100%.
Jesus is the only hope of salvation from the guilt of sin. He is God come in the flesh. And he came to wash away our sins with his blood that he shed on the cross. Salvation is a free gift, but you must repent and ask Jesus to save you from your sins and come into your heart. God is good. It is written, "The just shall live by his faith."
Love the fact that such amazing music could be made in a time of really bad music. And such is the case now with Devin Townsend carrying on this sort of legacy in a time of worthless music.

Go.
YourOldGlory 3 months ago 2
@YourOldGlory No kidding! I've usually been a Waters fan over Gilmour's, but we gotta remember that without each other, the Pink Floyd that has captivated so many of us for so long would never have been invented or played by anyone. There would be no Comfortably Numb, for instance. Personally, "On An Island" is what brought me back to David Gilmour as a fan recognizing and remembering his compositions, as did seeing Roger perform The Wall in Las Vegas in 2010. Consummate showmen, these guys!

@eightyfeettall You are wrong man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Division Bell is one of the most valuable album than On An Island..... How could you dare to say such things.... All Pink Floyd's fans have been influenced on DIVISION BELL because the album itself is so powerful and their's no words dor that....
How can you said that : ''"On An Island" is what brought me back to David Gilmour as a fan recognizing and remembering his compositions''
alan220781 3 months ago
@alan220781 Nope! As I said, "On and Island" brought me back... Division Bell? I've got it! The point is, I was divided as a child, but have come back to the important nature of EVERYONE'S compositions in the band as to what FIRST made it what it is now. I can see clearly, and love them all equally. It's the whole that matters, not the squabbles.

@kertkiturze Aye... On An Island is a very ugly song. I agree. It's downright FUGLY, in fact.

There are many fruit flies here with attention spans to match ,, pink floyd and all its members have allways been story tellers , Verbaly and thru their instruments,, there is not a story that can be told by screaming ,,, hence their style
brb0713 4 months ago
@brb0713 TZo tell stories, one would have to actually WRITE a song(s). Gilmour had 3 (three) whole individual credits for songs he wrote... with 21 co-credits for DSOTM to TFC. Waters had over ten times the individual credits that Gilmour had, 37 (thirty-seven) credits, with 21 co-credits.
If Gilmour was telling a story... it would have been a real short one. Perhaps written for the short-bus crowd.

MongoTheLloyd 4 months ago

Pansy little Gilmour-groupies like yourself won't change the facts, boy.

w...t.....f are u chuckleheads talking about. So, shut it and get it up ya about David Gilmour.
chef4cook 4 months ago

MongoTheLloyd 4 months ago
@MongoTheLloyd Gilmour is a great musician, he joined pink floyd approached by nick mason, anyway Gilmour and Barret were friends from school. I dont mind if he wasnt a founding member, apart from founding the band, is most important what he contributed to the band. David Gilmour is as resposable of pink floyd success as Roger Waters is. I think they both, Richard Wright and Barret too were importat members to make pink floyd the most influential band in the world. My enhlish is not good, sorry.
esteban6cuerdas 4 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@esteban6cuerdas Floyd was already a successful band.
MongoTheLloyd 4 months ago

I have been playing guitar for about 30 years now. Acoustic and electric.; I write songs. I play in bands. I know a little about what it takes to write the songs. Waters is a great musician.
