Nice walkthrough, but I'm a bit confused as to why you kept backtracking to get items instead of taking everything you needed the first time you entered a room (ie grabbing the gold coin and leaving the big coin, only to come back and get the big coin later). Would've saved some time.
Wow so thats how it all gets done. Ive only played the Mac+ version as a kid and never figured out how to get over the damaged bridge for the staff of ages, always thought those potions had some purpose. Managed after 4 years to finally get to the warlock but was unable to kill him. Its interesting to see that in the NES version there is no room with orcs and goblin warriors in the windy corridor... i guess that room really had no purpose so was ditched when they converted to NES :P
Seeing this though I must admit... the Mac version is quite a bit better, sure its only black and white but the graphics and atmosphere was alot better, not to mention proper sound effects and alot harder given spell scrolls where once only use (IIRC). Might go pull my Mac out of the cupboard and boot it up, if it still runs and finally put this game to rest 20 years after the fact :P
l5:00 looks like the little geeky twerp got what he so --richly-- deserved. I Remember chasing Mondain through out his "dastardly" chambers as he scurried around as a bat this is a similar plot to Ultima 1.
Awesome walkthrough! I remember playing this game back when I just 9 years old (back in the 90's) and getting very frustrated. Thanks for helping me relive my childhood and solving all those complicated riddles. I think it would be amazing if this game was remade on the Xbox360 like Knights of the Old Republic-- combining combat and puzzles.
Cool. This game bugged me too, but it is a classic. There is a similar NES game I remember from when I was a kid involving vegetable cratures or something. If you happen to know, what is it called?

@teknogothyk No idea actually. Must have been a major mental slip on my part.

Wow, no wonder I couldn't beat this game when I was 5. If I had an NES I guess I'd try again....oh wait....emulators! Haha yes!

Nice walkthrough, but you didn't give enough time for me to read some of the text, it's kind of a pain to have to pause it constantly you know.

Sorry about that. I'll think about it the next time I walkthrough a game.
