This isn't the right clip - if the clip were actually available I think it would get more airtime. Well, if you don't like taxes or the declining dollar, ask your employer to pay you in goods or services. They did it for centuries before government currency, and I'm sure you can do it too!
But if you choose to use the government regulated and produced currency, you'll have to give up some rights of private wealth in return for convenience. That's a social contract.
So to the teapartiers, ask your bosses to pay you in tea. Govm'nt can't tax tea! Just don't toss it into the sea...

actually it is at its highest level in history. we will never have a gold standard again. it is much to complicated for politicians to figure out. you could have made a ton of $ if you bought gold earlier this year or last year. if you think its cheap go for it, but i think we need more inflation and uncertainty to get it much higher.

I wouldn't use the word "never". At some point, some type of currency reform must take place, whether it's based on "hard assets" like a combination of precious metals, including gold and silver, or perhaps something else. One thing is for certain, fiat money is worth less and less every day due to this half assed strategy of massive printing. As for me, well I got into gold back in 03 and have no intention of dumping it any time soon, even if it went back to 350 an ounce. Peace of mind.

This isn't the right clip - if the clip were actually available I think it would get more airtime. Tim just says "I just want to emphasize that America is a very open economy" and he nods and smiles - it looks exactly like he's delivering a joke that is well received and you can't tell from the limited context why laugh came but that particular line isn't a statement about the dollar's strength at all, and the laugh is innocuous. This TV station has made a mistake (or the whole thing is bs).
