Carlin for the millionth time is 100% right. I have to admit growing up as a kid, I was a germaphobe. (Still am, though not as badly) A lot of this had to do with the fact that my mother was a nurse and she would constantly warn my older brother and I about the dangers of disease and how playing in the dirt could be bad. Well, my brother played in the dirt and I stayed inside playing Nintendo. Nowadays I wish I'd have swam in the Chattahooche River as a kid (Georgia's equivalent of the Hudson).

When I worked at an orphanage in Panama, I saw a five year old fall on the playground playing full-contact kick-and-chase with about 15 other kids on concrete with brick ledges. She fell, cut herself, and what did the nun that she went to do? Sing a song, bless the cut, and tell the girl to go kick the ass of the kid who knocked her down. We waited twenty minutes to patch up the cut; the girl was fine. Treat your injuries, but Christ, you don't need to obsess over getting sick.
Actually Carlin ended up being right (well duh). I saw a study from few years ago, that said the reason babies put dirt in their mouths to get their immune system ready. Like programming a computer. And adults are typically better off if their immune system gets "practice." Ha.
