  • Man, the years (and drugs) have not been kind to her face, figure or voice. She should be a poster for the anti-drugs movement!

  • Yes!

  • i love her omg i love u always

  • Liked her voice better when shewas young before drugs and alcohol spoiled her. She's still good, but hasn't got the purity to her voice that everyone loved anymore

  • marianne i love you

  • i think she and debbie has something to talk without bad intentions grace slick to i love this woman still go on witrh proud

  • Wonderful video... tnx!!! great Marianne ;-)

  • Check out her 1965 performance. She went to hell and back, but survived Jagger and Richards habits and influence. This is 42 years on. Elvis died,Jackson died .. many others too. She did not.

  • smoke?

  • ok, she really let her voice go. Im sorry but you shouldn't smoke when singing is your bread and butter.

  • Whoa! How old is she here?

  • is that mariane?? she doesnt sound like that on old records

  • NOBODY sounds the same over time. You still sound like you did when you were sixteen? Nobody would take you seriously.

  • People have said this of Judy Garland as well, and I think it is true: The voice changes, but her fans still clamor for her.Had I not seen her in concert, I probably would not have believed that she still holds an audience spellbound...but she does.

  • This dear reader is a love song. As the years go by you will understand. Keith never forgave Mick for accepting the gong. Marianne had real class. HMmmmahm As tears go by.

If you haven't truly loved. You haven't lived.

    Bob

  • I think she have the perfect voice!!

Is like the Tom Waits women version...

And i personally love that kind of voices, the not clear ones

  • I think she looks fine! My voice and appearance have changed over the years, too, without a lot of drugs and such. Give her a break, people. She's a survivor!

  • Time wins...everytime

  • hear hear romaine........and urot

    Marianne rocks

(guitairist fluffs a couple of notes lol)

  • hey you stupid people ! The Lady is 63 what were you expecting? Rihanna's ass?

Marianne's legend, a survivor, an icon and - let say it - an example of freedom.

Try to look as talented, smart and elegant as her after having sex with two Rolling Stones, surviving cancer, writing amazing songs, being addict with heroin.

don't feel allowed to spit on people because you got your ass stuck in front of your computer and your life's meaningless.

Marianne, we wish you the best.

  • well don t like her appearance too much but i think the song is better with the deep voice

  • Yikes.

  • IS SHE PREGNANT?

  • fuck up people she still has a wonderfull voice theres not much diff between this and her live album from the 90s

  • I'm sorry I watched this...I remember Her in ;'64

  • I'm sorry she's like an embarrassing Auntie at a party.... Give it up Marianne

  • Wow, is this the same person!??

Booze and drugs will do that every time! Just watch Amy Winehouse fall apart the same way...just give her time!

  • she is truely a women warrior

  • omg ppl rly? wake up and stop drinkin la la juice her origonal voice is so much better, and her voice now is a prime example of what drugs and drinking will do you to you. the only deepness i hear is in her destroyed voice. i cmon you can even hear as she struggles to hit the high notes, she sounds like an upset frog

  • Totally agree. I could not even believe it was Marainne

  • Lol. An uspset frog. Yah, this is sad. Makes you wonder what happened.

  • I like her very much ,and yes, it's the true -like wine- how older how better !

  • fantastic . painful. deep.

  • she is like good wine, how older how better.

  • Good on yer Marianne.

  • she looks so broken... her vision is amazing - she really knows how to get inside a song.

  • I get it now. What a song, it's really stood the test of time.

  • The forty-two years of life that separate these two performances produce a remarkable contrast.

  • Wow... A truly different version. Is she now down about three keys from the original?

  • I still prefer her release version, but this one is, in many ways, deeper. After all, it's a song about being upset and whistful, when she was 17 or whatever from an affluent background, she wouldn't have known much about how tough life can get. It's actually nice to hear her sing it in a different voice - 4 decades, smoking and drug abuse will tend to change a voice. This one has the greater meaning of looking back on life and wanting to go back (for me at least!)

  • You are spot on,Greenman. She should have made this song now -its almost a vision of her life. Evening of the day-your 60s. The children-she WAS a child when she first sang it. Riches can't buy everything-they never got her happiness.Doing things they think are new -her early life of sex, drugs and fame.

Rain falling on the ground-her unhappy life.

  • It isn't 1965 but then what is>>> you are still an angel

  • Noone is going to sound the same way they did as a teenager...which she was when this song was a hit...she's matured and been through a lot...this is the grown up Marianne ...

  • I loved the original song, toruble is there are too mnay old singers still hanging around, but unfortunatley, they should have retired long ago.

  • Yes mentaltenant and, actually, her voice started to change 3 or 4 years after her debut, so, no reason to discuss if she has a clean voice... and there is another thing: people really get old. Her first TV appearance was in 1964, it´s a total lack of coerence to expect the same voice of 45 years ago.

She´s amazing and this version is much better than the original.

  • She's sounded like this for well over 30 years, why is everyone here acting like it just happened?

  • Yeah no shit! These knuckleheads need to hear her with Metallica's "The Memory Remains"! That is rock!

  • she's got that cigarette smokers voice.

  • Holy crap! She got old and a potato chip got stuck in her throat!

  • Whisky and Marlboro bass.

  • Pass me my earplugs!!!!!!!

  • This is much better than the original, which was totally wooden. She got better with age...

  • her voice is absolutely incredible. i will never forget when she bumped into me at Sin-e before her performance there. i will always hear that amazing voice saying, "excuse me" to me :) so much life in that voice!!!

  • I'm totally agree with you, majorbonkers. Pathetic !

  • mariannne is a goddess of song. you may as well compare keith richards to how he looked 40 years ago. her voice is like velvet laced with glass. she,s still here. appreciate her. i wish we could still listen to joplin, morrison etc.

  • I'm totally agree with you, majorbonkers. It's very pathetic.

  • Compare this with the original. Just shows what a life of drink, drugs and fags will do for you. Very sad.

  • nostalgia guys!

    she is a legend!

  • listen to the original version.

  • I tell you: She damn sure CAN sing, listen to her "Trouble in Mind" also on YT!!! And... many more like "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan".

Beautiful woman, fantastic voice for singing the blues.

  • sounds like a marlene dietrich impression!

  • I think I get this song now. Super video. What a gorgeous voice. Lucky lucky people who were here.

  • Her voice may have changed, but for the better in my opinion. It has the sound of life experience. I find this song touching (in the way she sings it now).

  • A velhice é uma fabrica de monstros embora marianne seja um monstro não tão monstro..

  • screw u leoantoniodc, just because she doesn't sound as good as she did then doesn't mean u huv to insult her, everyone has their ups and downs u retard!

  • her voice sounds so different. but that's alright. god bless her.

  • her voice doesn't work for the cheesy crap she did in the 60's, but it's perfect for the music she does now. have you even heard "Before The Poison" from 2004???

it's hands down her best work!!

she has a beautiful and unique voice

  • bet you were not born till way past the 70s

    ruined her voice

    hell

this is a voice of age and life

    not some pop tart music

    or voice

come back in 30 years and tell us

    about Marianne's voice

  • u suck her voice still rocks!!

  • wow made me cry .

  • Great stuff Marrianne still has it

  • If memory serves me, I remember her doing a song with the lyrics "at the age of 37, she realized that she was never going to ride ..thru the streets of Paris". Anyone know what this song is? I'm not knocking her voice. . that's the price to pay for too many drugs and bad habits. I'm an admirer from her days back in the '60s when I was a kid in high school. We all grow old.

  • Ballad of Lucy Jordan

  • ...by Shel Silverstein, no less. Great song.

  • Wow, what a change in her voice. Still awesome though. She'd be the ultimate drinking companion! Legend.

  • Okay, Marianne's voice may not be everyone's cup of tea, but those who love her, like me, find her voice deeply moving--full of grit, no doubt, but never hideous. About twenty odd years of drug addiction, which she has overcome, coupled with forty years of heavy smoking (which she's trying to overcome). There's your answer.

  • Do you meen that you noticed a difference in her voice? For how long time? I think her voice changed a lot at about 1978-79

  • Her hideous voice is a bad joke. It's been that way for

a long time. Somebody tell me what happened to it.

  • I'll tell you what happened to Marianne Faithfull's voice. Just read worldtheatre's bit of info.

  • I think she is simply brilliant. It isn't soft and clean the wya it was 40 years ago and I love it every bit as much now as I did then.
