id rather the government give 5 year olds guitars and force them to learn the works of classical composers as opposed to the government here where we... well... let 5 year olds watch hannah montana... and justin bieber...
A real moment of meaning and truth for someone bond in one on of the most ensnaring and deadly controlling regimes and cults of personalities in our history...his fingers might belong to the DPRK, but between the frets somewhere lies a few grains of freedom...right around 4:15
@sanspeurpipes There is not freedom of expression in the artists. One pianist who escaped the DPRK was caught playing 'capitalist' music and had to leave the country for fear of being killed. What ever he expresses is engineered. Its a country where the arts are used to paint the country in a positive light. One of their most famous actors is a US soldier who defected to the country.
I think a musician who puts a military uniform gives a message of aggressiveness, that it is not him but the North Korean army which is performing. Just to remind us they have enough nuclear missiles to blow up South Korea and the rest of the world. I don't think South Korea and the rest of the world is interested in this king of confrontation, but it is how they educate their children in North-Korea.
@MrGuitarcat I am not sure what you mean about the music. I feel that he played with great passion and shows the world that N Korea is not full of Jim Jongs and I am sure one day we will be friends and at peace. Votre jeu est également très bon
@MrGuitarcat Well it is not for war is it. I thought that people play notes not because they in themselves have a meaning but that music in general implies a meaning, otherwise you could not play in such a compassionate way. Therefor if this soldier can play in a compassionate way one would hope that he can be the same towards other people given the chance. Too many negative comments are thrown at the people of N Korea and we in fact know very little.
@RyersonRobert I'm agree with you. In one hand, this man play music because he feel a passion for it. In a second hand, music (independently of the musician ) he play a music for a cause. I don't know if it's music is the tool of propaganda. I'm french and the story of my land recall how a music can serve a political system. French national anthem is an exemple, and musicians in the Napoleonians war campaigns an other. So, i doubt always when i see military music.
@MrGuitarcat He is so technical...No HEART though. In everything you do there should be a spirit ...a heart for it is that convey the feelings. But one who has no love or haven't experienced love will not be able to show it. He is very atteactive.. What a waste of talent to be under a tyrannical regime.
So what is the intention of this video? We are seeing enough violence in OUR movies, OUR TVs, OUR internet, and in the games that OUR kids are playing...This is a great breather. Enjoy!
Don't be fooled. This is just bread to throw to the people there.
The place is ruled by a strict dictatorship and they probably live in a deep shit, as everybody knows communism only works for the ruling minor fraction os the population.
As beautiful the song and/or the performance might be, be aware of the intention and what's behind it.
Thanks for seconding my novice understanding of music.. Haven't the foggiest idea of what the guy's rank is, looks like an officer level, but looks can be deceiving. 'Cause of your comment, I'm almost forced to enjoy third time, but still enjoying it, refreshing.
Wow~ second time is even better to listen. Harmonics combination, percussion, tremolo, etc. genuinely enjoying his music.. My applause on his performance.
