i want a cow named rosie so much. my soon to be husband says no way! but im convinced that when we buy some land one day that i can talk him into it. black spot seems like such a gentle creature. i have never seen cows show aggression. im proud to be vegetarian
I am so grateful to you for posting this beautiful video. I had many calf friends and grew up with them too. I think of them often and yes you are correct, they do teach you kindness and forgiveness if you care to learn. Brings back many old memories of my bovine friends. Thank you
So interesting to see how nice treatment can make a cow show that emotion in her eyes and that sensitivity and individuality. Black Spot seemed like a person or a dog.
She definately thought rightly that she was equal to humans and above dogs. Cows are naturally afraid of dogs, so it isn't anything personal. Thanks for commenting.
nice video you really loved your blackspot thats so sweet. but it makes me upset at what happened to the rest of the cows where you grew up. i would never have made it growing up where you did, ive been vegetarian for over 18 years and all the stuff that goes on makes me so sad. wish there were more happy stories to be told. but im sorry to say the horror outweights the good when it comes to treatment of cows over here. RIP blackspot she was special
It almost made me cry when I read your comment. I am so glad to think Black Spot could make a difference in this world. She was a great friend to me and accepted everyone as long as they respected her and treated her kindly. If the world followed Black Spot's example, everyone would have their place and no one would be rejected for no reason. It wouldn't matter whether you are an angus, charley, holstein, gurnesy, jersey or milking shorthorn you would always have a place in the world herd.
I loved your story about your favorite cow. Beautiful animal. It must be a wonderful experience to have such a close relationship/friendship to Black Spot.
And as we who love animals very much all know: animals don't really die... they go over the golden bridge and do what animals do.. sniff around, frolick in the meadows. I know it is a little pathetic but this thought helps me to let go of dear animals which passed on.
I loved your video. Every time I have to say goodbye to one of my dogs I remember the story according to which animals don't really die but go over the golden bridge and live on in animal heaven. They only kind of wait for you because they are busy, you know, sniffing at each other, frolicking in the meadows... just stuff animals do.
Very pathetic story but it comforts me each and every time:-)
You must be very happy to have been allowed to spend so many happy days with your cow.
I was really comforted by your comment. It is weird just to know that Black Spot isn't here anymore. I get sad every time I pass by her field and don't see her. She lived a long and healthy life, though.
Awesome story. I could relate because I got benign tumors on my adenoids growing from a combo of mono, allergies, and staph infection. Surgery was indicated. I was 17 like you. The doctor put me on more meds, told me to go the east coast shore. Boyfriend took me. in one year I was all better. I've never had a relapse, and I married that boy ...
She was always the top cow in the herd, even outranking the bull sometimes. That was what she wanted, so she was happy. She kept the other cattle in line, but she was fair as far as cow bosses go. The other cattle seemed to hold much respect for her. She enjoyed attention from us humans as well.
Thank you for commenting! Yes, Black Spot really enjoyed the attention she received from all of us. She would always come when I called and loved when apples or other food was brought to her. Also, she would try to protect me from other animals that she thought were threatening me - like certain other cows and dogs in general. In this video she is all about the food, but she really enjoys the attention more than anything!
Great vid - thank you! I used to try to ride my uncle's herefords when I was a kid. (central KY). They'd jolt me right off, but never harmed me, although my uncle'd of killed me if he knew about it. ;)
Sending blessings for successful management of that COPD.
Yea, you'd think that falling off a cow would hurt abody more, but you and I must be lucky! There's some beautiful country in country. We have herefords and hereford/angus mix, but I don't have any video up of them as yet. I have found herefords to be particularly laid back compared to most breeds. They're beatiful as well.
i was raised with cows sheep and horses.... most people think that horses would be more memprable in our hearts. but my cows have always had a lasting impression on me... they are wonderful, humble animals...
I have breathing problems...when I was 17 I was diagnosed with COPD even though I never smoked. I kept getting bronchitis and then pneumonia most every year for a long time.
I'm currently going longer than I ever have before without getting bronchitis or pneumonia. It will be two years in August 2008. The longer I go without being sick, the more my body can heal itself. :)
She died just a while ago. It was very peacful, though. She was old and just gave out, it seemed. I fed her an apple on the day she died. She seemed very content, just weak. Now she's buried beneath the shade tree she liked to stand under.
very nice cow

On my videos, I am proud to allow everyone state their feelings so long as they don't get hateful or lie.

I am taken by the wisdom of Black Spot. If more people would listen to her, maybe there wouldn't be so much pain and grief in the world. Maybe...

Actually, Black Spot was 16 when she died. She was still the boss cow of her herd! She had the respect of all the cows of her field.

She really was amazing. I don't think she would believe herself to be a pet, though. She thought of us as equals. :)
