Education gives you an even better chance. There are very few hand guns in Europe. There are also very few gun-related deaths. You may think that makes them slaves but I'm sure they feel differently. In the USA, there are 90 million guns and the USA leads the world BY FAR in gun homicides. That's not what I call safety.

In 2003, there were 2,800 people killed in car accidents. What is that, 14 times higher than guns?

The "causes" how about targeting the criminals. Also, I know this is insensitive, but realistically, consider the fact that the leading cause of death in Canada is Cancer. If she thinks she's suffering, or her son did, what about the people watching family members die and can't do anything about it? Think of the lives she could be saving instead.

I know that it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Also, last time I heard any statistic about the number of gun related deaths in Canada, said that it's actually going down. My point was that it's an issue, but not that big of an issue on the bigger scale, and for that reason any effort towards it could easily have a greater impact.
