For an accurate and highly detailed history (from original sources) of the battle, which is called either the "Battle of Fort Griswold" or the "Battle of Groton Heights", the best source is "History of New London, Connecticut" (1852) by Francis Manwaring Caulkins. Covers from 1612 - 1852.
This is the source from which almost all other accounts have been derived since its publication more than a century and a half ago. It's free ( PDF from scans) for download at Google Books.
This is the site of one of the largest massacres in our history- not the battle itself but after the surrender.
