Ahmad Massoud was only blamed so he would lose support among Afghans. Second, no one is denying that Hekmatyar wasn't particularly brutal in the later years, however, basing your criticisms of him on unfounded assertions isn't any more accurate than placing blame on Massoud for Kabuls rocket attacks.

Ahmad Massoud was only blamed so he would lose support among Afghans. Second, no one is denying that Hekmatyar wasn't particularly brutal in the later years, however, basing your criticisms of him on unfounded assertions isn't any more accurate than placing blame on Massoud for Kabuls rocket attacks.

By 1986 the Soviets completely severed all the Mujahideen's main supply routes crippling their ability to mount offensives. Gorbachov quit the war for friendship with the West.

You only base your idiotic argument from what was shown on western media. The Mujahideen were a challenge, but in 1986 after destroying their supply routes, the Soviets forced them into retreat to Herat and Kunar. Soviets lost maybe 300 pilots at the most. By your idiotic account the Soviets lost 2 million men. Gorbachov quit to appease the West, period.

You're forgetting that the Mujahideen were not one large conventional army, but a collection of groups. The Soviets tried to contain Afghanistan through brute force and failed. And the Mujahideen overthrew the PDPA in '92. 6 million? Hah! The Russians never deployed 6 million troops to Afghanistan.

The UPA, Forest Brothers, AK remnants, the Soviets had a history of smashing unconventional terrorists. The Soviets controled 60% of Afghanistan, and were pretty much mopping them up by 1986. Gobachov pulled out as a means of appeasing Reagan, not a failure.

Again, no one is agreeing that the Mujahideen were all peace loving hippies, but the things they did PALE in comparison to the actions that the Soviets committed.
