Of course adental technician can gain more money as a dentist. it all belongs to your strategy to sell ur product for better price. Of course the quallity has to be familliar with the price. means= high price high quality.

I'm a dental technician from germany and to be decent we have some of the best techniques in the world.

I know some technicians who drive Lambos, Aston martins and Ferraries.

Everything is possible in this job cause it unique what ur trying to sell!

yay, Im a dental technician, (orthodontic dept) and I agree with babypedz, technicians are more genuis than dentists. Sadly we technicians arent as well know, when I tell people my job, they mistake it for a dental nurse...veryy annoying :\

I found a place to practice but only for a short time! Everyone need experience!!! Not really recomended!

Yeah...the problem is lack of education for dentists...even after going through dental school, when a dentist first gets started, they are clueless as to what's going on. I work for a small dental lab that picked me up through connections but I'm definitely going to need to get into college if I plan on following the occupation. I have the benefit of getting experience before I even go to college though.

I know dental labs and dentists too. There are good people there, but there are huge egos all around.

When a case works out fine, the dentist is a hero, when it doesn't...the lab is at fault.

2 out of 10 dentists really know what they are doing. 8 out of 10 labs know what they are doing.

Some of the worst dentists practice for 40 years and have the biggest most successful practices.

Shitty dentists will make any crown fit, even crowns made for another patient. Unbelievable but true.

in the uk dental technicians now have to be registered with the gdc. if you dont you are sacking yourself. thats what the gdc says!!

Yes but good luck sending your patient over to china to get a custom shade. $1200 a crown? Bit on the high side but I guess cost of living in Cali is higher. You should see what you get paid to make the temp out of bis acrylic. Bet then again you do get to see it in place and gab with the patient as you make it so that's a nice fringe beni.

In Beverly Hills, dentists charge as much as $1800 per crown only to spend $35 to have it made in CHINA. I guarantee they wouldn't dare tell their patients where it was made.

This trade is a disgrace.

I totally agree that dentists are cashing in with regards the manufacture of crowns, bridges, dentures and orthodontic appliances. I am a fully qualified dental technician here in the UK and the wages of a technician are so low that street cleaners get paid more! For this reason I do not practice my art. Patients have no clue as to how little these appliances are purchased for by the dentist and how skilled the technician is at making them. Without technicians dentists wouldn't exist!!!!!!!

@somogyi1973 maybe because you didnt go to dental school and have $300,000 in student loans... maybe because you dont have a practice that you bought for another $300,000.. yes dentists make a comfortable living but they've definitely earned it

I did go to Dental School actually, for 3 years. I didn't need a loan as my studies were paid for. I do not know a dentist that does the job for the love of it only for the money.

@somogyi1973, You'd be surprised at the people now that are not accepting the "out of the box" looking dentures that doesn't fit properly and looks like they belong in a horses mouth. Denist will charge you an arm and a leg for dentures, and use the cheapest lab possible. Dentures have taken a huge step back from the 70's. Many denist doesn't have a clue, but most doesn't give a crap. We have been in an ongoing process for months trying to get the dentures right, and we're not going to settle.

LMAO.. the Dentist 'destroy's' the tooth..for profit and of course reconstruction. But they DONT reconstruct the tooth otr teeth they cut down, they take an impression with a vinyl material of thier handywork, and send it to US. The Lab guys to make pretty. Demand to see the laboratory bill to the dentist! Im serious.

Who are you trying to kid??? Dental Lab Techs are the secret industry that dentists would rather the public not know about !! Where in any other field does the Dentist charge the general public $1200.00 for a PFM crown and pay as little as $45 to have it made??

There is no licsence rquired to be a technician who is responsible for making items that fit into the patients body , yet to be a manicurist or hairdresser you are required to be liscensed. Dosen't make much sence does it??

u do have to be liscensed to run and operate a dental lab. and there must be one CDT for every 10 non liscensed techs.

Errr.....Not as such. There are NO ADA requirements stating that labs must be run by CDT's. In fact there are NO ADA specifications regarding labs at all !!

Thats why Doctors are free to send work to outsource laboratories in China , Mexico and India. Oh but don't tell the patient about it.

Like the dentist would give up his $35 outsource crown secret !!
