Only a joke people...what did the Deadhead say when the acid wore off? "Man, this band sucks!" No, really, for all you naysayers about commericalism, at least the boys kept going out there every year doing - what - 30+ shows a season or something like that. That ain't commercialism, that is bringing the music to de people dem! So thanks to all for bringing back some memories on You Tube!
yeah whatever, quit complaining and appreciate having this online for all of us before they pull the plug because all you are doing is complaining...just saying
what do you mean...not the dead you grew up with!!! The dead are the dead!!!! The Best!! I was born in 63...been a dead head for 30 odd years still lov'em new and old. Love to go see Furthur......the extension of the Dead.....Jerry would have loved the Band. God Bless Jer Bear
They Dead Evolved over the decades. No suprise that band that's been around that long is going to I grow. I love the early Dead for the way their sound was then, a reflection of their influances and what not. The criticism that the Dead didn't sound the way they did in the 60's, 70's has usually come from traditionalist minded dead heads usually from that era. Born in 74 myself and first show in 90' I loved their 80's Trimmed down, My boys with Brent. I reject the too commercial beef.
Hell In A Bucket, West L.A. Fadeaway, Victim Or The Crime, Built To Last, Blow Away, When I Paint My Masterpiece, Cumberland Blues, Cassidy, Don't Ease Me In
Set II
Help On The Way-> Slipknot!-> Franklin's Tower, Estimated Prophet-> Eyes Of The World-> Drums-> Jam-> The Wheel-> Dear Mr. Fantasy-> Hey Jude Reprise-> Death Don't Have No Mercy-> Turn On Your Love Light, E: It's All Over Now Baby Blue
@14jwh Ray Charles, John Lennon, David Bowie, Miles Davis, Jerry Garcia, Trent Reznor, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Keith Richards, James Taylor, John Coltrane, Jimmy Page, Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Nick Cave, Gregg Allman, Steve Earle, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Lou Reed. I could listen to those addicts suck at music any day. Sad they had an addiction; grateful for their gift.
@walstib77 your right ... so after abusing opiates for decades then they make the worst music, their great at first then they either die or turn into the listless zombies we see here,my vitriol stems from the fact that the culture surrounding the dead encourages self destruction and drug abuse in a way that no other band comes close to also so many of their fans are hostile toward musical diversity, i still remember dead heads breaking zeppelin LP's at a party, that is the dead mentality
@14jwh If you just "stumbled" on here by accident, why did you bother to make your negative comment? You probably listen to Creed or Nickelback or some other top 40 crap.If you can't say anything good about something, why say anything at all,Just because you don't understand the Grateful Dead and the comment Heroin addicts make the worst music is the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say. You need to do some research on that because some of the greatest musicians have had heroin problems.
@14jwh was no accident you came looking rather you liked it or not well ??? but as a person i think you are most likely shitty ...oh does that sound unfair? well now u see our point what u listen to lady gaga?????
never saw the dead with jerry. but arent they always playing whats in the air? i feel like i can feel crowds through their shows. this dark sound is a representation of what was in the air that night. Am i the victim or the crime?
I think it says something that even at their most "commercial" the Dead weren't all that commercial. They got big, yes, and I will admit the sound got heavy and unwieldy at times. If anything, I think the Dead were victims of laziness and/or boredom depending on the night.
I was at every show in '89 and this was DEFINITELY among The Best of the year!!!! Absolutely in Awe to find it here!!!!!! Great Job Funkenstein!!!! We spent much of 85-93 in the same places!
ive only been listening to them for 20 years now, and i must say...there isnt another band alive or ever that i love more than the Grateful Dead. They grew on me from the first moment i saw them live in Kansas city in 91.I know they went commercial, and i dont care.I saw their second to last stop in St louis and i read their 'we will quit forever paper' they sent out before the second day show, and i dont care.i saw jerry band in 94 in Phoenix and he only played for 45 minutes n i still love em!
Post-In The Dark, it all gets so samey - there's comparatively so little innovation compared to their earlier shows. It's sad, too, because Touch of Grey really is a good song, especially before it was released as a single and they became afraid to alienate the fans.
Great sound, several great moments, but not the GD I grew up with. When they went commercial at the same time as Touch of Gray, they went downhill. Lighting sucked at this concert. Brent is on in this one though.
Sounds great to me! their style changed slightly over the years for sure. Not every show is going to be a 10, but this setlist looks sick! i'm just started, killer Hell Bucket. going to sit & watch the whole thing now. they never went "commercial", the whole music industry changed and they were just trying to keep up w/ the times. The lighting at every Spectrum concert sucked, that place was a shithole. lol. may it rest in peace. Brent was always "on". btw, i was 8 yrs old @ time
dude I have said it before, and I will say it again, THANK you thank you, for this great stuff. I was here but behind the stage most of the show, its cool back there at the spectrum, but nice to see the boys that night, just like it was yesterday - thanks again Brother
Great sound! My first show...2nd set is "beyond the pale" starts@1:04:30 Help>Slip>Franklin's>Estimated>Eyes>D/S>The Wheel>Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude Chrous>Death Don't>Lovelight E: Baby Blue
late model dead was, for the most part, uninspired. kreutzmann is on the record as saying that the last five years were mailed in.
