@MiloTheGhost - thank you for the comment. I've added an annotation at :41 you need to CMD+Click (Mac) or CTRL+Click (PC) the thumbnail icon for Layer 1 to load the layer as a selection. My apologies for not highlighting that step.
@ErimoKaravi - there are two versions of Photoshop. One is Photoshop CS 5.5 Standard Edition. The other is Photoshop CS 5.5 Extended Edition. The Extended comes with the 3D tools. If you tell me you do not have a 3D menu, without seeing your machine I would venture you have the Standard Edition.
@BeautyBoyTV - yes, Photoshop CS5.5 has Repousse. It's important to know there are TWO versions of Photoshop. Photoshop CS5.5 Standard edition does not include any of the 3D tools including Repousse. You want to purchase Photoshop CS5.5 Extended edition.
@BlackedVideo - there are two versions of Photoshop. One is Photoshop CS 5.5 Standard Edition. The other is Photoshop CS 5.5 Extended Edition. The Extended comes with the 3D tools. If you tell me you do not have a 3D menu, without seeing your machine I would venture you have the Standard Edition.
@TheDmj1873 IF you are working with a pixel layer, then you must make an active selection of the layer content. You can use any Selection Tool to activate the pixels, but the simplest method is to CTRL+Click (PC) or CMD+Click (Mac) on the layer in the Layers Panel.
@dennext without seeing your computer, my educated guess would be your video card doesn't have the proper OpenGL support. You can check your preferences in Photoshop to make sure your hardware is supported.
@edsenpunkrock - to activate repousse you need to select either a text layer, a layer mask, a selected path or an active selection. Once you do that, Repousse will activate on the 3D menu.
@iMpAcTxGamingD - to see the 3D tools you should be running Photoshop Extended. This can be a bit confusing because you could have Photoshop CS4-CS5 standard edition.
@esplugas3 - Ah. When using the CMD key (CTRL key on PC) to make a layer an Active Selection, be sure your cursor is pointing at the thumbnail of the layer. You will know your cursor is positioned correctly because a Marquee symbol shows up on the cursor. You also want to be sure that the layer itself is highlighted in the layers panel.
@esplugas3 - if the command is greyed out, a simple test would be to create a new document, add a type layer, then goto the 3D menu to choose Repousse then Text. IF the command is still greyed out, then it points to the video hardware on your machine doesn't support OpenGL. Also, the 3D commands are part of Photoshop CS5 Extended edition, so if you don't have the menu at all it might be you're using Photoshop Standard.
@esplugas3 - look at your character panel, make sure the Faux Bold option is off. You can access this via the panel's option menu or click the Faux Bold button (first "T" button bottom half of character panel).
@esplugas3 - no worries. All the panels are listed under the Window menu. You can also access the panel by using the options bar when the Type tool is selected. (There's a button for the character panel there).
I have watched a million photoshop tutorials in my day and have to say that this one was EXACTLY what I needed. Clearly explained and illustrated and I could not flaw the presentation in any way. What a pleasure to watch, thank you!
@fraydarkness to select an object on a layer, hold the CMD (Mac) or CTRL (PC) key then left-click on the layer. The object should now be in a selection marquee.
@TheSpiXeL without seeing your screen, I would assume what happened is you made a selection, but in the Layers panel the actual layer was not selected (highlighted). Make sure the layer is active AND you have a selection on screen.
what do you do at 0:42 ???
