You got it wrong dude.To discover the roots of SFU one needs to go back to old school Florida death metal (Obituary, Massacre). SFU purpose has always been to show a brutality through simplicity (unlike other ultra-speed bands).

What you reckon to be a hip hop type approach is in fact a sort of groove originally appealing to the primitve and hidden human emotions which only show in a moment of a grave danger ("kill or be killed"). Similar to tribal chanting before the battle with the enemy...

Not for nothing, but since Barnes left Corpse, Cannibal Corpse has become an incredibly tight, extremely vicious death metal monster. Barnes has written nothing but subpar death metal for the past decade or so, and fallen into damn near obscurity. Which is why they haven't made a decent tour of the states in over 7 years. If I'm going to listen to death metal of this type I'll go listen to Jungle Rot or Autopsy.

@Dingledengsen #1 It's a festival #2 It's a festival in Europe. Any metal is more accepted in Europe than it is here. SFU is on the Summer Slaughter tour this summer here in the states, but they are going to get blown off the stage by the likes of Fleshgod Apocalypse and Dying Fetus. But they haven't toured solo in the states since I saw them play to 15 people at a hole in the wall in about 2003.
