people that design alien species always seem to forget that eyes, noses & mouths are from earth only, its like 1 in a billion chance that aliens would have all three arranged on the head, they wouldnt have brains, arms, legs, muscles in the way that we recognise as all of that comes from 1 random earth species millions of years ago. take a tree for example, that is more alien than this cloverfield alien.

You know, your right.. i think about that a lot too, typically a designer will make it a bipedal creature, like the Predator or every little green alien, but the chances are that they would be so dissimilar we probably couldn't even locate the mouth or nose on it. Hell who's to say if aliens exist, that they even have those parts... maybe they feed similar to trees or w/e the options are unlimited and alien designers typically stay within the bounds so that people don't get confused..

From what I hear, the sattelite falling into the ocean was done during the lat stages of post-production to provide a logical explanation to why the creature ("Clover") is attacking New York.

In the making of the movie, the director stated that the monster was only an infant of its species and it wasn't so much terrorizing New York as much as it was lost and scared. So perhaps it's egg hits the water, it hatches and begins to wander around New York in search of its Mother? Thats just what Ive interpreted from watching the Special Features

Cloverfield is a deep sea creature that was awakened when a satellite fell from space and woke it up. Apparently it's a baby and just woke up from its slumber. The small creatures on its body (called parasites) are also other deep sea creatures that feed off of the monster. Apparently since the creature is moving about and getting shot, the small parasites crawl about and eat humans and when they do bite you, the human body reacts by expanding and exploding.

There. That's your monster.

when the satellite fell, they were actually unaware of it until people pointed it out. Originally the monster was just going to be some being that decided to get up from its hibernation and start rampaging in New York. But when they saw the satellite, they made it the reason why it woke up.

Yeah. When people saw the satellite, they thought cloverfield was an alien that fell from space. But it was an actual satellite and the creators didn't know this till late. There's only one. They look diffrent because of diffrent shades of light. When they showed him in the street, it was dark and the fire was providing light on his face. The second time, in the park, the sun was shining through the clouds, and even then, it was shining on his back, so his face was dark. If you ever wondered why you look diffrent in diffrent shades of light, same thing. But there's only one. The director confirmed there's only one in the movie attacking new york. There are more.

Actually, the size comparison is pretty close, if not in Clover's favor. Clover stands on all fours, so it's hard to relaize his height, but should he stand up erect, official stats list him as over 300 feet, and 1,200 feet long (including tail). Godzilla at his smallest is 164 feet, and 328 feet at his largest. The American one (Zilla) is about 200 or so feet.
