Modern liberated women are much more incensed by the practice than the women who's families practiced it for centuries. The worst thing that came of the whole thing was when foot binding was completely abolished and women were forced to unbind their feet. Not only did they endure intense pain with new growth, they lost their superior status and led them to ruin.

How the prince chose to find a woman with the smallest foot that would fit in the "glass slipper" instead of going for her features or personality, that he probably would of recognized since he spent most of his night with her during the ball!

i do feel really sorry for the girls who were put through this be force but i guess that was the nature of the society at the time a little like the "hour-glass" culture and society in western countries. However i think beauty is deffinately inthe eye of the beholder and should not be forced up-on. most of these women did not even keep their feet beyond the age of 15 and in reality if we were meant to have feet that reminded me of horses hooves then we would be born with them

But I think the point of this video is to show us that, yes what they did was terrible. But was it so different from what we are doing to ourselves now? We bake in the sun, shave the hair off of our bodies, damage the hair on our heads, smear chemicals on our faces, starve ourselves, get implants, liposuction... We're a pretty messed up society ourselves.
@lizardbutt16 It is different because the little girls who were having their feet bound didn't have a choice. It was something their mothers forced upon them so that they'd be "attractive" enough to marry. All of the things "we" (in quotes because you can speak for yourself...I sure don't do anything like liposuction, implants, etc.) do are by choice.

I don't understand why people use makeup, tattoos, corsets, peircings, or footbinding. These people need to except that God made them who they are, and they don't have to do what others do to be beautiful. Everyone is unique and beautiful. The definition of beauty is cultural. Ex. Long Neck women, in some parts of the world tan skin is ugly, before the 60's some people didn't put skinny in to account when they judged how beautiful someone was here.
Yes some high heels are painful the legs just hurt. BUt I guess now i have figured out which ones are more comfy but for most part a GREAT pair of New Balance or Nikes and some thick socks. I can walk in them all day. See what needs to happen is the shoe companys need to make the athletic shoe sexier and then I can wear all the time. hayyy.
@AdamIntellectual7 if your talking about foot binding , you cant say they are crazy,,, in their time thats what had to be done to get into a rich family, and have a rich husband that was their ritual practice, half of these women were forced to do foot binding from such a young age, and most of them regret it after . because society's have changed over the years
Interesting video, you got some really interesting photos on footbinding that I hadn't seen before. But some of the info you used was more specific to the footbinding on wealthy women as opposed to what the majority of Han women went through. While the basics of your info is pertinent to all Han women, it's something you should be careful of in the future.
Erotic? If I were about to sleep with someone and they took off their shoes and revealed feet like that, I would be sick. Thtat's really not beautiful at all, and I feel so sorry for those women who had their feet bound in order to be demeaned and controlled.

@tnuoccaeht they did take their shoes most women rebound their feet daily if they were rich and about 2-3 times weekly if they were poor to keep their feet from growing :) most men never saw their wives feet unbound but a few thought it was erotic im sure there was a sexual manual with 40 something things to do with bound feet...
people who endure these things for beauty are not happy in their skin.

my grandmother's mum passed away two months ago, she is also a footbinding old
