You said it is owned by the Richardson Family. You are mistaking but close it is the Robinson Family. I was able to visit the island via helicopter in 1996 when I was in the Navy stationed on Kauai.

now it is not forbidden it is just called that. you have to be invited by the richardson family to go there. they bought it in the late 1800s and is home to 200 natives and 1 school taught completely in hawaiian. i would know i live on a neighbor island.
