Yeah, I do actually really like the styling of the later Fieros. However, the fact that the front suspension was lifted from a Chevette and it took ages for them to get the 5 speed put into the car, and then when they did the ratios were all kinds of horrible, the shifter was about as tall as a street lamp and the gauges and interior were hideous just kind of turns me off of the Fiero.
now now now...have faith in Fieros! they are very good handling cars...jus underpowered. and the thing with the fuel tanks going boom was fixed in 1987 and 1988,the final years of the Fiero. With the right power and tranny, the Fiero can actually beat a Ferrari F40
Actually, the fuel tanks were not the problem. It was the setup around the 1984 2.5L engine, which resulted in 00.07% of the Fireo engine bays igniting, thus resulting in a recall on that year. All later years were fixed in this area, and the 88 Fiero was actually quite the sports car! Too bad GM trashed it just when it got good.....
no lie. think of the car GM could have had if they made a 3.8 liter V8 jus for that car. Look at the MR2! It basically looks like a dam Fiero and out did it in production sells. Id love to see a nice 2007 Pontiac Fiero with a small 3.8 liter V8 pushing 485hp with a curb weight of only 2,850 pounds.
Keep in mind that you could get a Fiero Formula, which weighs even less than the GT, and you wouldn't even need a V8, even though it would be nice to dream : ) Anyway, more realistically, just picture a DOHC 3.4L V6 with aluminum heads being a factory option instead of the 2.8 V6. What's that, 210 HP and 230 Ft/Lbs or something? I may be a little off on the power rating, but even THAT would smoke the pants off the MR2!
true true. i forgot bout the Formula model. Now add a Supercharger or Turbocharger to that 3.4L V6. Some people have done that already and gotten awesome results. The have kits for Fieros where one can drop a Chevy 350 into the back, or a Cadillac Northstar V8. 210hp is nice...but dam beat'in an MR2, we need the Fiero to content with faster cars....like Porche 911s and Ferrari 348s, 355s and 360s.
Actually its a Ferrari 355 F1. How can one get an MR2 mixed up with a Fiero. the Fiero's more stream lined while the older MR2s are more straight edged.
Warren, Ohio, is nowhere near Detroit. One of many errors John Bunnell has made during his days on World's Wildest Police Videos.

But put a V8 in there, keep the latest Formula body style, and a nice suspension setup with some sticky tires and I'd be all over it.
