Most of the zones he was in were noob zones that came out on launch. There are some magnifigant looking zones in eq2.  I just recently got a computer that could play on etreme quality, and sometimes i just go through zones looking at all the stuff i never seen before.

Great indeed. Im still wondering why people like to compare games, no, to say that their game is better than the one showed, in this vid EQ2. Personally, my favorite online game is Guild Wars, But of course I will not come here and say that is the best of bests and anyone cant say nothing. Its just my personal opinion. I like Wow,EQ,EQ2,UO,L2 and a large list too. So that people who come here to rush stop saying garbage. Of course EQ2 graphics are better than GW are, but GW's are awesome too :)

Guild Wars > EQ2's graphics by a long shot.

EQ2 just has a lot of land area and other bullshit to make the game seem big.

GW has a lot better graphics, though it all depends on what your graphics are set at.

With that said I hate both games. GW just got old with it's only daunting task of achieving titles which in the end make you look like an asshole/currency purchaser, and EQ2 just..Isn't that great to me.

Hell I hate Flyff, but Flyff > EQ2 to me.

With that said, let me simplify it...

If PvE content gets old, and you're not that big of a loser to grind for titles, your next option is in PVP and PVP content.

Yet, PVP is even impossible unless you have an insane amount of time to practice and the patience to deal with people screaming over vent about syncing your time. Plus, it's too constricted.

I like WoW's PVP, only because it seems a bit more free. I don't know, MMORPGs are getting old to me, I suppose.

It really depends on your system specs. because the game is so complex, it takes a really beastly computer to make use of most of the settings in EQ2, while games like Guild wars can use more of the bells and whistles with a lower end machine. With everything maxed out and the new shaders that have been getting developed for EQ2, nothing comes close, IF you can find a machine to run it well. SoE is very slow in adopting technology though and doesnt support SLI/crossfire yet, making it hard

I still play EQ1, but one of these days I"m gonna give EQ2 a run. It looks great and I suspect it'll play well. I hope it isn't too easy though and I hope I get a sense of regional distinction from it. EQ1 has lost any real sense of regional identity. It's sad really. Everyone starts in the same place and goes through the same series of zone. The races lost their identity many years ago and now it's just 1 to 85. It's not a roleplaying game anymore. Replace the swords with guns and it's Quake.

There's method to the madness, the left side bar is buffs, the 4x6 at the bottom left is combat stuff, the offset one to the right is out of combat stuff, and the tiny one is stances and gear changes.

EQ1 had a fairly clunky UI and moving to here from there I tried to emulate it to some extent to keep things familiar.

The pvp where if you have gear and are the fotm class you get automatic wins? Lots of skill in gear and class imbalance I guess... Or you could play a rogue, the class the head designer plays, of course they are going to stay on par if not OP.

Or the crafting, considering you don't even need to be at your computer to craft its so simple.

Maybe the simple pve, well, go look on their own forums to see all the flames on that.

Unfortunately that's not the case. Everquest 2 requires a very powerful machine. I have 4 gigs of DDR2 800 speed RAM, a 3.2GHz dual core processor, and dual nVidia 8800GTS graphics cards.. I don't get past 30FPS most of the time. Yes, it's partially because of how old the code is (Some was written as early as 2001), but there's plenty of quality to back it up.

You probably don't get past 30FPS because NVIDIA graphics cards are pretty crappy, and the simple fact you didn't upgrade your dual core to a quad core - big issue.

You might want to up the speed of your RAM to 1066, too.

EQ2 and WoW are very similar.. they're both MMOs, and both have quite the name for themselves.

The difference is, EQ2 IS higher quality. Not everyone likes that, not everyone cares. Not everyone can even run the game, nor can everyone play it well. Don't bash it until you have tried it. I played WoW for months :P I have every right to dislike it.

You don't have to "REPRESENT" or defend the game you play, keep an open mind and try it.

WoW doesn't compare to EQ because its a different genre, I played WoW for a long time (cousins forced me) i had a 70 priest and 70 lock. WoW is very much a repetitive game in comparison to EQ and EQ1 (not sure about 2 yet as mine hasn't arrived yet) was a VERY hard game in comparison to wow. WoW is just too easy, too repetitive and the PVP is extremely chumptastic. one/2 shot kills are old and lame. EQ has always been about skill THAN gear. you can have good gear and still suck badly; its harder

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Everquest 2 was rolled out with the intention of picking up the EQ1 players who had lost the tremendous playtimes required to progress in EQ1 at the time. Nothing even vaguely resembling the 'casual hardcore' playstyle that is possible in EQ2 now can be done in EQ1. By casual hardcore I mean it is possible to maximize your progression and then only spend a few hours a day raiding, if hardcore is your playstyle.

The main thing to keep in mind when comparing WoW to EQ2 is the INTENDED player base. WoW was rolled out with the intent of pulling in the WC3 and D2 crowds, young kids, heavy into pvp, requiring very simple mechanics. My good friend's 6 and 8 yr old sons were up to high ranks in PvP combat before they removed the old scaling system. (Now to be fair, he's a genius and his kids are not dumb, but it was still pretty simplistic gameplay.)

Not all of us want gameplay that is comparable to chutes and ladders in difficulty. EQ2 is slightly clunkier UI wise, but it's complexity is significantly greater and it would be expected. The EQ2 macro system is pliant enough to simplify many brainless parts of the game, without enabling automation in any sense.

Graphically, the game is NOTHING at all like WoW, texture wise, art wise, depth wise.

EQ1 went down the drain more and more as it aged, I watched it happen, and it's unplayable right now. EQ2 is perfectly balanced, the game play is much more upbeat and fun, and there's no grinding for levels or endless AAs.

Give it a go before you bash it.

I run it on a duel core processor; a nvidia 9600GT with 1 gig of vram; 2 gigs of ram. In the harbor I still get a butt slow framerate (lower than 15 sometimes) with my graphics set to balanced. Maybe you just have low standards as far as framerate. I can play crysis on high and can't play EQ2 on balanced in all zones. I love the game, but you can't tell me that it's well optimized. In fact, hey maergoth, what fps do you get with those settings in Qeynos Harbor?

I can run Crysis on max graphics, beyond what can be enabled in-game at 20 FPS.. 10 under fire. EQ2 processes MUCH differently and is old enough for it to be obvious that by today's standards it's far from optimized. EQ2 is a processor heavy game, and my processor is the worst part of my computer (Running an ANCIENT 3GHz Pentium D processor). Qeynos Harbor though? 20-30FPS, pending population. I only adjust settings while raiding, and that involves turning shadows off and complex shader down.

Good response. I would also like to add one thing to the conversation: RAM. This game is affected heavily by how much RAM you have. Back when I had 1 gig of RAM, a NVIDIA 6600 (the crappy one not the GT), and the same processor the game ran horribly. I then upgraded my RAM to two gigs. I saw a huge increase in performance. I later upgraded my card to a NVIDIA 9600GT, and almost all my high end games except EQII were affected. One more thing that needs to be said: Exiles forever!

it all depends on what you want. do you want easy and plagued by 8 year olds? get wow. do you want a hardcore MMO experience with slow levels and good immersion? get EQ1. Do you want a mature playerbase and outstanding visuals behind a solid gaming system? get EQ2.

Ok, let's have an objective talk about EQ2's graphics.

Pros

Texture maps are very high rez. Model animations are extremly well thought out and exquisitly coriographed. Spells are just beautiful.

cons

Such amazing graphics require a hell of a processor and video card which significantly limits the EQ2 playerbase. Many environmental textures just arn't up to par with the models (the ground texture for example). Spell graphics while amazingly beautiful are reused far too much.
