Of all the tenor voices I've heard in more than 40 years of attending and performing opera, his is the closest I've heard to the remarkable sound of the young Jussi Bjoerling.

Unlike so many tenors who have a wooden tone at the base of their voice, Lanza had this incredibly warm, human and acessible tone and riding on top of that, a brilliant, perfectly produced, ringing high end with a vibrato as measured as a metronome.

There are many fine instruments, but few with as much heart.

Mario's 'Our Father', another moving, inspiring interpretation, features a skill almost unique to him, in my v. humble, not expert opinion. From 'wheeech art eeen Heh-vin" (alto tenor, but tender not shrill) to 'Hallow - weddd be e e e e thy name" there is a brightening then a darkening of the voice ... something his contemporary critics said was astonishing to hear in person, as if he were suddenly joined by a baritone. I've listened for this with other greats ...

Okay - first time hearing the "organ" playing this song, and based on the music itself - I think they should've used an organ version somewhere in the Hitman games - just an instrumental - would've gone so nicely and fitted with the dark tone of the games.

As for Mario - there aren't many male opera singers I can listen to without cringing, but he is definitely one of the exceptions, he makes it manly for me haha :D

Only in the world of born-again Bjoerlingites, including Lanza's latest biographer and his adorers, for whom everything must be note perfect. If jussi could ever move me to tears the way Mario does with this, I'd be an advocate of note-perfection. But he doesn't. Mario Lanza was greatest "Tenor" of his time and I firmly believe even today, "No" one comes close to his "Voice" or his distinguishing quality.

Singing "Ave Maria" is so 'Profound" that it brings tears to most people, that really listen to it.

Such a Fine Tenor, to die at 38, way too young.
