I'm not an animal rights guy or anything but, to all those people leaving comments suggesting he shoots them, WHY?? Why not just release them? There is no good reason to shoot a trapped animal, especially if your not going to eat it or something.

@11mac11s Trust me, you DON'T want a raccoon around. These are highly destructive pests which carry roundworm and rabies, and they are known to attack pet cats, dogs, and even humans.

Either take your caught raccoon at least 25 miles away (so it won't return) into the woods and let it go, or just give it a quick gunshot to the head.

i hope you released them in a remote area, or they'll likely become some one else's trash eaters. i live in michigan, and here, it's illegal to transport and release trapped possums and raccoons. in michigan all trapped raccoons and possums must be euthanized, by law :/

the state of michigan has approved two methods for euthanizing trapped animals, the gas chamber, or a single well placed bullet to the head :(

@Va11e The only problem is that they'll stay in your neighborhood and continue to be a nusiance for one of your neighbors.

Next time, use a Hav-A-Heart trap. That way, if you catch any young raccoons, you can leave them in there and you'll catch their mother when she goes into the trap to free her young--and the door shuts. Then either take them at least 25 miles away (so they won't return) and release them, or shoot them.

hi, if you're trying to trap cats, you should look into TNR, Trap, Neuter, Return which is the humane way to deal with strays. You'll also get help with trapping, etc. The Humane Society should have more info or go on line.

I just came in the garage through the door connected to the house... the problem with dog was that he was getting into our garbage, etc and he would also run away when I caught him doing it... we told the owners what their dog was doing... but they didn't care.... so I trapped the dog in the garage by baiting it with garbage which was connected to the place where you put the cheez on the rat trap.... long story - short.. the dog went to the pound... haven't had any troubles with it since....

hey nice catch, those rat traps are great trigger mechanics for all kinds of cage traps.... once I caught a stray dog using my garage as the cage... the rat trap was set up the same you have it, except it pulled a hinged stick out from under the garage door which was then held closed with bungee chords.
