  • I can't blame you for not catching all them in one video, there's too many, but I think one of my favorite moments were Practically all of In The Flesh starting at 4:05, and then Waking Every God, but at 4:45 or so, the part like "through my eyes she can see nuumb ANXIEEEEETYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!"

    so dang powerful.

  • This man is a god. There's nothing he can't do. On the new album - "Road Salt 2" - he even plays drums on some tracks - incredible. And besides that he is a very very nice fella. I had an interview with him last year and he was very friendly and modest.

  • European vocalists are just amazing.

  • How the hell does he do this. I'd kill to be half as good a vocalist as him.

  • 2 people have gone deepthroat.

  • @Elcaraw Why have they gone deepthroat ?, I don't really understand...

  • Fantastic vocalist, "The Big Machine" is my favourite.

  • The best in the world...simply the best

  • there are a lot of moments to choose from

  • Amazing voice :) i cant wait to see POS in Poland :)

  • /watch?v=BoqR3mv5VVM

See Daniel on drums (!!) in the middle section, and a vocal solo at the end!

  • What I like with this video (besides the fact that it is Daniel Gildenlöw singing) is that these vocal moments of Daniel are pretty much my favourites too.

  • Comment removed

  • Guys, I heard Daniel sing from G#3 to A6, so 3 full octaves and a little plus, maybe he can rich some notes above A6, but surely not 4 octaves, not surely 5 or anyelse you say. I agree with maddolis.

Daniel is a great singer, f**k the octaves.

  • You've got your octaves wrong. G#3 isn't low at all, and A6 is very high, in the whistle range. You're thinking of G#2 - A5, but his voice actually extends down to C2.

  • @Oc34nDrop C2 in Imago at around 1:45 on the studio version.

  • Why do you find it so hard to believe that he's got 5 octaves? I'm a gutiarist and i can sing from a D# and up to a F#, in 5 octaves.

  • That would be pretty impressive...

Daniel maybe has like a 3 octave-range, depending on what the lowest notes he can reach are.

  • Daniel has recorded notes from C2-A5 on Pain of Salvation records. That's one note off of a 4 octave voice, and I'm sure he can whisper down to an A1 quite easily.

  • i have a range of 46 octaves

  • @crubutt lololololololoolol

  • @crubutt I think you might have typed wrong, obviously you meant 64 octaves.

Dolphins would really enjoy your singing.

  • esta guapo

  • Five octaves? Not even Michael Jackson, Chris Cornell or Steve Perry.

  • @SpaceDyeDream

what a ridiculous comparison you have made good sir.

  • @SpaceDyeDream God awful examples, as already stated.

  • His highs sound so similar to Chris Cornell. 'tis great.

  • No faking. He's good as live as in a studio. Not many nowadays are. Right?

  • Agreed.

  • what are all the songs used in this? I know only half of them

  • 1. Oblivion Ocean (Entropia)

    2. King of Loss (Perfect Element Pt.1)

    3. Rencilliation (Perfect Element Pt.1*Partially 12:5*)

    4. Trace Of Blood (Remedy Lane)

    5. Beyond The Pale (Remedy Lane)

    6. The Big Machine (One Hour By The Concrete Lake)

    7. Used (Perfect Element Pt.1)

    8. Waking Every God (Remedy Lane)

    9. Mrs. Modern Mother Mary (Scarsick)

    That's it. :)

  • /watch?v=ze5BDwXCmvM&feature=related

Amazing live performance, with Gildenlow on (really fucking) high backing vocals and fellow Swede/amazing vocalist Hans Fröberg in lead.

  • My hero.

  • There's just a real natural smoothness to his voice that no other singers seem to have.

  • Winning a War from 12:5 has got to be the most amazing thing ever to come out of a human voice.

  • can u give me the list of songs used in this video

  • one of my favourite bands, and listening to this reminded me that i haven't listen to 'em since long!

    great choice!!!

    ps: thanx for the comment

  • Man this guy's high notes are ridiculous. Beautiful falsetto as well. I need him to make more music!

  • for heeeeeeeeee EEEEEEEEEEEEE

    EEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP

  • 2:10

    O_o

  • manydaysago, i agree with you, think the tenth is

fabio lione, absolutely amazing vocal range and tecnic.

But for me, freddie is with Daniel in the first position. to much vocal range, both of them have.

AMAZING. but its a excellent list, by the way

  • His best performances for me have to be Iter Impius (live) and Ashes (from 12:5). So good it borders on a sexual experience.

  • In My oppinion it would be something like: 1.Daniel Gildenlow (Pos) 2.Russell Allen (SX) 3.Mike Baker (SG) 4.Freddie Mercury (Queen) 5.James Labrie (DT) 6.Ray Alder (FW) 7.Doug Pinnick (KX) 8.Jorn Lande (Ark) 9.Giovanni De Luigi (Empty Tremor, probably havent heard it but check it out, great stuff) Can't decide on a number ten, fill it in for me =
  • in fact they are all great singers. especially Gildenlow (he fantastic, probably the best!! not only for his great voice and range but also for his interpretation). well, i don't like labrie's timbre!! I suggest you to listen to some brazilian singers like: Alex Voorrhees from Imago Mortis, Mário Linhares from Harllequin, tribuzy form Tribuzy and finally Leandro caçoilo from eterna. that's all

    sorry for my english...

  • Wow you're right, Leandro caçoilo is easily one of the best voices I've ever heard, and Eterna is a great band, thanx man!

  • This guy has so many different voices, listen to Reconciliation, Nauticus (Drifting) and Second Love and you won't believe they are all the same person.

  • :55 RECONCILIATION! 5/5 !!!

"Run - but if you run away

    You'll always have to hide

So if you need to run

    Run for help! "

  • That section is just stunning. Absolutely stunning!

  • yea man one of my fav PoS moments !

  • ever since i saw them open for dream theater (they were playing all the songs from the perfect element) ive been absolutley in love witht his group fantastic work my all time fav voice in prog

  • guys at 2:01, what kind of shirt is he wearing? there's a way better pic of this concert to see the shirt better on google images if any 1 can tell me, please let me know

  • One of the most brilliant singers around. Admireable range. <3

On a total irrelevant btw note - did he HAVE to cut the hair?

  • he is awesome. brilliant range. he and akerfeldt are the best.

  • Daniel Gildenlöw is from my town in Sweden. I saw him live when Pain of Salvation werent that famous in a small local when they played accoustic. awesome, they did play Hallelujah with Jeff Buckley aswell :P

  • With Jeff Buckley!?

  • Oh, I was not that describing. I meant that they play the song Hallelujah of Jeff Buckley(his version).

  • Aha....yeah the guy's dead soo......

  • HE IS AMAZING

  • big machine is ownage

  • 0:36 to 1:28 almost sounds almost like the same song or medley!

  • Im miss the Undertow part "...let me brake the tings i love, i need to cry" I think this is some great singing too :)

  • HE IS AMAZING

  • the one from 'the big machine' is my fav, amazing. Daniel is a beast.

  • 1. oblivion ocean-Entrpia

    2.King of loss-The Perfect Element

    3.Reconciliation-The Perfect Element

    4.A trace of blood-Remedy Lane

    5.Beyond the pale-Remedy Lane

6.The big machine-One Hour By The Concrete Lake

    7.Used-The Perfect Element

    8.Waking every God-Remedy Lane

    9.Mrs.Modern Mother Mary-Scarsick

  • Heh, the last image, and how it unfolds, is kind of creepy

  • 1. oblivion ocean-Remedy Lane

    2.King of loss-The Perfect Element

    3.Reconciliation-The Perfect Element

    4.A trace of blood-Remedy Lane

    5.Beyond the pale-Remedy Lane

6.The big machine-One Hour By The Concrete Lake

    7.Used-The Perfect Element

    8.Waking every God-Remedy Lane

    9.Mrs.Modern Mother Mary-Scarsick

  • Half of Reconciliation is from 12:5

  • Yeah, the creator of this clip substituted in the real version during the scream, which Daniel doesn't hit on the live 12:5 version. Subtly done, but kind of cheating!

  • 1. nono

oblivion ocean is from Entropia album

but the others are correct, yesyes :)

  • you r right in my haste i worte it wrong it is from entropia :P

  • @Fonikolaxano Oblivion Ocean isn't from Remedy Lane

  • @Fonikolaxano The first track is not on Remedy Lane....

  • @Fonikolaxano

You do know Oblivion Ocean is actually from Entropia, right?

  • @Fonikolaxano "oblivion ocean > remedy lane" i'm not sure at all. Entropia it's the right answer.

  • @Fonikolaxano BTW Oblivion Ocean is from Entropia not RL

  • @Fonikolaxano *Oblivion Ocean - Entropia xD

  • @Fonikolaxano dude... oblivion ocean - entropia.

  • but...is some of this stuff live?!?if yes, where the hell did you get it???I NEED!!!

  • Parts of Reconciliation (0:52 - 1:15) is live from their 12:5 acoustic album. Go BUY!

  • and what about Iter Impius from BE? :) you sure forgot that one :)

  • THE GREATEST SINGER EVER...not just tremendous range but the diversity in tones he can come up with is impossible!!

  • and it's pretty difficult to cover.. right now my band and I are trying to perform Iter Impius, Inside out, Inside, a Trace of Blood, Used... however in his recordings Daniel hits from E1 (+1 in america the thickest guitar string) to A4 (Used, Reconciliation) but someone said he can go lower and higher... a 4 octave wonder for sure!

  • Looking at the comments on this vid makes me so happy. There is still smart people out there ! :D

  • "Get a priest, I'm dying.".. Haha.

Hmm, Dedication would also be loveable..

  • You skipped King Of Loss from The Perfect Element- Part One

It should be number two, not replacing anything, just kind of squeezed in there.

  • Ahh thanks, the transition was so smooth that it almost sounded like it was a part of the song and I figured maybe it was just in the origional. I typically prefer the 12:5 version

  • If this helps anyone, heres the songs and albums:

    1. "Oblivion Ocean" from Entropia

    2. "Reconciliation" from The Perfect Element pt. 1 (also check out the live acoustic version from 12:5)

    3. "A Trace of Blood" from Remedy Lane

    4. "Beyond the Pale" from Remedy Lane

    5. "The Big Machine" from One Hour by the Concrete Lake

    6. "Used" from The Perfect Element pt. 1

    7. "Waking Every God" from Remedy Lane

    8. "Mrs. Modern Mother Mary" from Scarsick

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those!

  • I hadn't heard anything of this band before... but it sounds awesome, I'll search for them O:!

  • Buy all their albums! Start with "Remedy Lane" och "The Perfect Element"! Those are the two with the highest rank among fans.

I, however, keep "Scarsick" as my favorite.

  • @vaggpanelsklubben The Perfect Element = The Perfect Perfection and Scarsick = I will be sick if I hear another song of this album

  • @freminick123 i disagree. I greatly enjoy Scarsick and think it is a near perfect follow up for the original.

  • Daniel is not just the best vocalist. He is one of the best musician and a great song writer. His music and lyrics have changed my world.

  • great video!! and a nice compliment to my 4 octave video on Daniel. add some info on the songs included!

  • how does he do it?

  • Get a priest, I'm dying.

  • This is.. just beautifull..

Just one thing. One tiny thing.

I don't like the way you cut The big Machine - you were suppossed to hear the rise from the very deep nodes to the high screaming, incredibly.. just incredible ones!

  • Holy fuck....at 1:15-1:25, my eyes got wider with every note he hit. Just when I thought he was done...

    AHHHHHHHH!

    Whoa!

  • Indeed, one of Prog's best vocalist.

  • 1st Daniel Gildenlow

    2nd Maynard James Keenan (Tool)

    3rd James Labrie (Dream Theater)

    :D

  • 1st - Daniel Gildenlow

2nd - Maynard James Keenan (TOOL)

    3rd - Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)

    just my opinion ofc

  • neal morse gotta be up there :) (search goodbye to yesterday by spock's beard)

  • deff agree Gildenlow is number 1 but honestly he really should be 2 and 3 as well he has the range of everyone! and puts it to great use

  • Yea his range is pretty huge (5 octaves ish on a good day, i've heard) but his emotional range is what puts him leagues above the rest imo (not to mention his lyrics...)

  • agreed 100% hes a very rare breed of muscian and songwriter he really has the whole package you can always tell what hes trying to convey when hes singing

  • Not to mention his 'growls' and screams, hes no Akerfedlt in the respect but you can really 'feel' them

  • Indeed, i share your thoughts about the emotion he puts in his voice ;) That's what made him my favorite singer :)

  • Sorry, but 5 octaves is bullshit.

As incredibly exceptional as he is, he doesn't have a 5 octave vocal range (including any whistle register or squealing).

If you go to a piano and see how big 5 octaves is, you'd agree.

He has roughly 3.5 octaves of usable Chest and Head Voice- which is amazing as it is, let alone the fact that he sounds beautiful throughout those 3.5 octaves.

  • That's probably true, I was only relaying incredibly bias information from a forum i used to visit :P said Gildenlow himself had admitted to a 5 octave range. Still, 3.5 is pretty huge

  • I think he has a 4 octave range.

  • but yeah 5 octaves is crazy. people don't really have a strong grasp on octaves.

  • They really don't, it's pretty annoying.

  • This is wrong. He certainly does have 5 octaves of range. Listen to the song "Reconciliation" for proof of this.

  • Are you kidding me? Please point out how he has 5 octaves in Reconciliation.

His range in Reconciliation is A2 (chest voice) - A5 (falsetto/mix), which is precisely 3 octaves.

The Big Machine has slightly bigger range, but pretty much the same deal.

Take a look at jowox's video, it's accurate at C2-A5 (little over 3.5 octaves).

  • Yeah,I think Daniel can push his voice to about 4 octaves.

  • @Aniland Or The Big Machine

  • The best singer whose ever stepped on this planet. Is that fair?

  • Let's just say I would castrate myself in order to be able to sing like this.

  • Goddamnit Daniel...you made POS sounded different from other prog band, i love your voices and P.O.S of course^_^

  • im glad someone else likes mrs modern mother mary too

  • Yeah... people really don't seem to like Scarsick. I wanna agree, that it doesn't quite reach the impressiveness og the other albums, but it's still greater than many other prog. records out there..

  • DANIEL GILDENLOW, i don't need more words

  • Gildenlow is the greatest vocalists of our time! He can sing anything!! Any music style! and he is on the 4 octave wonders club! Hahaha.. I mean, I'm fan of Pain Of Salvation since the TPEII and i just can't stop listening at his albums since then...

  • A four minute, twenty-seven second orgasm. I almost feel wrong dirty saying "thank you" for it.

  • nice job!

  • Such an amazing vocalist, very nice video.

  • and what about water? at 1:20 inthe actual cd

i´ve always took it for granted!

i never value the drops i shed

i faild to see the relation

    between myself and worl starvation!

  • yep.

  • YES! I love that part!

  • wow you put some time into this. the transition are VERY good. great choices too. what was the first song on there? i don't have that one.

  • Oblivion Ocean. So much emotion!

  • Really, you'd have to just put all POS songs on here to get the REAL "best of".

Also, "What if we lose control" gives me goosebumps everytime"

  • Haha, that's true! But you know... That'd be too easy ;)
