But to call all the books of scripture a single word is confusing religious jargon. The term God's word (lower case) refers to any message from God, including interpretation of tongues or prophecy, whereas God's Word (Logos) refers specifically to Christ.

@phirefish ... theologies and denominations and sects, so it is also correct that the Bible on its own, despite being a true witness of God's word, has not led people to a consistant truth. His videos hammer on the fact that Jesus said it would be the Holy Spirit (Comforter) that leads us to all truth, not scriptures. He is right on the mark in that if we don't come to know Christ and the HS personally, the Bible will lead us nowhere.
So many base their teachings on the English translation of the Word instead of the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. There are many words in the KJV that were misinterpreted. Look to the Hebrew for comparison. Discover your Judeo-Christian roots by studying the original texts!

Anyone who is balanced in understanding the faults of translations will actively search out the problems in the KJV, NIV, etc and remedy those problems by using better translations of the offending verses. That said, the KJV is a wonderful and very accurate translation. The NIV takes license at making changes to what is written (not so good), but is much easier to read and corrects a lot of confusing areas of translation the KJV does not do as well with.

Respond to this video... Lastly: consider the woman who had the issue of blood in the gospels. When she touched Jesus her flow stopped. Christ's power stopped the the blood-He in fact transfered cleaness to uncleaness. So we can see the spiritual connection-the power of sin has been stopped by the power of Christ's atoment and His Spirit in us. The woman recognised some thing had happened-Jesus said, go in peace your faith has SAVED you- no longer was she sick of that plauge.
Jan's videos are not theological pearls, rather his gifts are more about exhorting people to strive for righteousness. He exhorts people to utterly reject sin. Yes he is incorrect in stating so categorically that "true Christians" never sin, but I believe he does it to exhort us to strive for that goal. My focus every day is to love Jesus first and so hate sin so much that I won't sin, not even once if I can help it. And when I sin, immediately repent for real and not fall into habitual sin.
I agree with a lot that Jan has to say, but I also discern the false things that he says in his personal misunderstandings. But I just wanted to let you know that Jan has repented of his position on the statement of saying that Christians never sin. He understands that we still make mistakes that we must repent of. He understands that he needs to not judge others with a voice of condemnation. I had talked to him about that before, and he would not change but now he has. God bless.

To the video again, brother---can you show me Scriptural proof for what this man continues to claim in the video? You said this is part of a larger sermon(and I've heard claims like this from OSAS believers like Adrian Rogers)---but I don't see it in Scriptures.
Even 1 John 3:9 doesn't say "the Spirit inside of you cannot sin"---it says "Whosoever is born of God"---it's talking about people, believers--not just a Spirit.

The Kings James Bible was written with the English of the time. There are newer versions which are better translated from the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.

I don't understand what is so special about the KJV? As far as I see, for English people it's the "classic", the one you have in the ear, so to say. We'd have that in Germany with the Luther Bibel. But I guess it's not the most accurate or easiest to understand translation, so what's so special about it? Why are so many people "KJV only"?

Gnostics also taught Jesus wasn't in the flesh(because to them, the flesh was sinful from the bad creator)--but only Spirit(otherwise Jesus would have been sinful), John rebuked this in 1 John 4:3.
Gnostics also taught that sin was physical(meaning to them all creation was physical, so it was corrupted and sinful)--so John had to correct that in 1 John 3:3-5 by clarifying sin was transgression of the law.

I'm not talking about reading the Gnostic gospels... I'm talking about the literal teachings of Valetinius(sp? see Irenaeus' "Against Heresies"), Marcion and Mani. There are a few others, but the the Gnostic gospels do not have to correspond with teachings any differently than false teachers speak wrongly on the Scriptures. I said there were Gnostic sects, and of course some were larger than others--I can show you Ante-Nicene writings if you'd like?

@droptozro What this guy teaches and what 1 John actually says is correct. He is saying that we should not sin. Just as John said in this epistle 1 John 2:1. But by John saying that we should not sin, John is refuting Gnostics because Gnostics said that sin doesn't exist or harm us or something, right? John is saying that we can sin and that we should confess our sins so that the Lord can forgive us and cleanse us. He is not giving permission to sin. We shouldnt' sin. Read ch.5:16-18 & v.21.

If you actually read 1 John 5:16-21 in KJV(I'm not a KJV onlyist, I just like how it shows "tenses" better in old english)---that same phrase from 1 John 3:9 is repeated but it says "born of God sinneth not." "-eth" means a continuous tense, not a 1 time or stumble.

No, there are many other sins which lead to spiritual death. This is apparent in 1 Cor 6:9-10 and Galatians 6:7-8, Galatians 5:19-21---these are warnings to Christians(not that they don't apply to non-Christians also).

@droptozro All those verses you quoted are sins of the flesh. I think they could lead you to the ultimate sin unto death from 1 John 5:16. Okay, I agree with you on most parts except that it says those sins of the flesh will lead to Spiritual death---not that they will lead you to the "sin unto death" like 1 John 5:16 is speaking about. Do not add to the Scriptures--it says they will lead to death, Romans 8:13--is a warning to Christians. If one continues in sin even as a professing Christian, it will be death for them.

Yes if we sow to the flesh we will reap death, but if we are children of God we will be chastised to bring us back. The issue is if we get entagled in those sins and we lose faith.
Chastisement doesn't have to be because of sin... don't get wrong, it can be-because of sin also, but don't impose that on the Scriptures. Chastisement can be used in just correction/training to make one more godly overall(such as fasting, prayer, God giving or taking things away, persecution etc...)
So what if you are entangled in those sins but still claim faith? Is God faithful to punish with spiritual death, or is He mocked and allows you still into heaven? Gal 6:7-8

@Anthony2OK There is no "next life." Eternal life means a life never ending. Obviously if your life "ends," then you are not in eternal life. God said Himself "My people die for lack of knowledge." Jesus said, "It is not Gods will that ANY DIE." That is a physical life, not a spiritual. Spirit cannot die, or God would be able to die.

As for "you don't need this book", that is actually correct since God can reveal Himself to anyone anywhere who is without the Holy Scriptures. God's words are not final. In fact, most of God's words were not recorded in the Holy Scriptures, as the scriptures themselves say! (John 21:25) Scriptures also say that some parts of the Bible are not God's words. (1 Corinth 7:25)

But, generally speaking, you no longer sin even though you are capable of doing so. 1 John 2:1 therefore implores Christians to not sin AT ALL (EVER) - something that is now perfectly plausible for those who are born again. He continues that IF any man sin (something not desirable nor expected), he has an advocate in Christ. We are justified only by Christ's blood. And we are born again into righteous lives of our own. It's called abiding in Christ. It's called being set free.

This guy is attempting to hide what is plainly written. 1 John 3 is not writing about some "component" of man. He is writing plainly. If you are born of God, you do not sin. When you are born again, you are a new creature sanctified for holy living. Jesus destroys the work of the devil in your life (sin). That IS redemption. 1 John 1:8 refers to having sin on your record (past sin), as does 1 John 1:10. It doesn't teach that Christians sin, but that they CAN sin (are ABLE to sin)...

@phirefish Actually, I think closer to the truth is that he has an axe to grind calling the Bible God's Word (capitalized), something that turns the Bible into God Himself. If you were to ask him if the Bible contains God's words, he would say yes and does say yes, which is why he quotes the Bible all the time. And he is correct that the Bible does not save. Only Jesus Christ can save. Another of his axes to grind is the fact that the Bible has been used to develop 34,000+ different...

The Bible is a collection of books, each of which is a testimony, each containing words (plural), they are dominated by God's words but also includes the words of the writers. But to call all the books of scripture a single word is confusing religious jargon. The term God's word (lower case) refers to any message from God, including interpretation of tongues or prophecy, whereas God's Word (Logos) refers specifically to Christ.

In fact, checking online right now shows that yesterday he preached on the Only Way to Eternal Life (Christ), the day before he peached on Evangelism, and the day before on what Eternal Life is. Are you sure you aren't simply getting snared by your favorite religious jargon that doesn't hold up under scrutiny? 1 Corinthians 1:16 is not "GODS WORD", it is Paul's words alone.

You see, that is the problem with religion. People want to take truth farther than is warranted and when their religion is challenged, the claim is made instead that foundations are being attacked (when they aren't). It's a mistake to call the whole Bible the Word of God, since some parts of the Bible teach that they are not the word of God. Also, the Word of God is a title reserved for Christ, who saves you. The Bible does not save you. It leads you to the savior, who is Christ.

@phirefish ... theologies and denominations and sects, so it is also correct that the Bible on its own, despite being a true witness of God's word, has not led people to a consistant truth. His videos hammer on the fact that Jesus said it would be the Holy Spirit (Comforter) that leads us to all truth, not scriptures. He is right on the mark in that if we don't come to know Christ and the HS personally, the Bible will lead us nowhere.

So many base their teachings on the English translation of the Word instead of the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. There are many words in the KJV that were misinterpreted. Look to the Hebrew for comparison. Discover your Judeo-Christian roots by studying the original texts!

Anyone who is balanced in understanding the faults of translations will actively search out the problems in the KJV, NIV, etc and remedy those problems by using better translations of the offending verses. That said, the KJV is a wonderful and very accurate translation. The NIV takes license at making changes to what is written (not so good), but is much easier to read and corrects a lot of confusing areas of translation the KJV does not do as well with.

Christ's power stopped the the blood-He in fact transfered cleaness to uncleaness. Jan's videos are not theological pearls, rather his gifts are more about exhorting people to strive for righteousness. He exhorts people to utterly reject sin. Yes he is incorrect in stating so categorically that "true Christians" never sin, but I believe he does it to exhort us to strive for that goal. My focus every day is to love Jesus first and so hate sin so much that I won't sin, not even once if I can help it. And when I sin, immediately repent for real and not fall into habitual sin.

I agree with a lot that Jan has to say, but I also discern the false things that he says in his personal misunderstandings. But I just wanted to let you know that Jan has repented of his position on the statement of saying that Christians never sin. He understands that we still make mistakes that we must repent of. He understands that he needs to not judge others with a voice of condemnation. I had talked to him about that before, and he would not change but now he has. God bless.

To the video again, brother---can you show me Scriptural proof for what this man continues to claim in the video? You said this is part of a larger sermon(and I've heard claims like this from OSAS believers like Adrian Rogers)---but I don't see it in Scriptures.
Even 1 John 3:9 doesn't say "the Spirit inside of you cannot sin"---it says "Whosoever is born of God"---it's talking about people, believers--not just a Spirit.

The Kings James Bible was written with the English of the time. There are newer versions which are better translated from the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.

I don't understand what is so special about the KJV? As far as I see, for English people it's the "classic", the one you have in the ear, so to say. We'd have that in Germany with the Luther Bibel. But I guess it's not the most accurate or easiest to understand translation, so what's so special about it? Why are so many people "KJV only"?

Do you know how many words are mistranslated in the K.J. version? Gnostics also taught Jesus wasn't in the flesh(because to them, the flesh was sinful from the bad creator)--but only Spirit(otherwise Jesus would have been sinful), John rebuked this in 1 John 4:3.
Gnostics also taught that sin was physical(meaning to them all creation was physical, so it was corrupted and sinful)--so John had to correct that in 1 John 3:3-5 by clarifying sin was transgression of the law.

@droptozro I read the whole book which contains most known Gnostic Gospel and how come your words sounds nothing connected to what I understood? I actually pity someone who think they represent the whole group by saying 'What gnostic taught, Gnostics also taught...'. This is part of the sermon and your quick judgment really worries me personally.

I'm not talking about reading the Gnostic gospels... I'm talking about the literal teachings of Valetinius(sp? see Irenaeus' "Against Heresies"), Marcion and Mani. There are a few others, but the the Gnostic gospels do not have to correspond with teachings any differently than false teachers speak wrongly on the Scriptures. I said there were Gnostic sects, and of course some were larger than others--I can show you Ante-Nicene writings if you'd like?

I mean, I know it's been a while--but it's also very clear from the epistle of 1 John that he is speaking against Gnosticism leaking into the church. It's not a quick judgment, I've studied this and seen it easily refuted from Scripture and from the Early church---they fought against heresies all the time, so shall we all as true Christians.

@lovejesusplz ...sin can be separated in the Spirit from sin in the flesh? If you can show me I will humbly look them up and study further brother, but I've heard this type of teaching before and I cannot recall seeing much proof of it.
I'm just reiterating to you what the early church spoke against the Gnostics, they lived in sin but thought themselves saved---1 John is so cleary speaking against their faulty doctrines when it comes to Christ in the flesh, sin and obedience. God bless

of the Spirit. Dead flesh in their view could not sin, so they denied ever being able to sin. One teacher of Gnosticism even taught sin didn't exist, so John rebuked this in 1 John 1:8, 10. They thought themselves sinless in all aspects while living in constant sin.
This guy makes many claims about biblical perfection and that it's impossible, yet offers no Scripture. Many times people were called righteous or blameless before God, and we're commanded it. I'm sure you're aware of the verses

Yeah sorry, this guy has a good attempt at the understanding of this epistle... but it's wrong. It's actually almost semi-Gnostic. This is exactly the thing John was writing against in the epistle(what this man is trying to explain). This is not in defense of Jan either, this is just in defense of the clarity of knowing what Gnostics taught. @droptozro What this guy teaches and what 1 John actually says is correct. He is saying that we should not sin. Just as John said in this epistle 1 John 2:1. But by John saying that we should not sin, John is refuting Gnostics because Gnostics said that sin doesn't exist or harm us or something, right? John is saying that we can sin and that we should confess our sins so that the Lord can forgive us and cleanse us. He is not giving permission to sin. We shouldnt' sin. Read ch.5:16-18 & v.21.

I didn't say this man was giving permission for sin.. if I did or that's implied, I'm sorry--the implication is that there is sin in the Spirit and sin in the flesh is what is semi-Gnostic from my knowledge.
If you actually read 1 John 5:16-21 in KJV(I'm not a KJV onlyist, I just like how it shows "tenses" better in old english)---that same phrase from 1 John 3:9 is repeated but it says "born of God sinneth not." "-eth" means a continuous tense, not a 1 time or stumble.

@droptozro What do you mean by sin in the Spirit? I think there is only one sin that you can commit in the Spirit, the sin unto death 1 Jn 5:16. Which I believe to be the denial of Jesus Christ and His atoning blood sacrifice on the cross for our sins. Gal 5:16-18 says that if we walk in the Spirit we shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.1 Cor 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

No, there are many other sins which lead to spiritual death. This is apparent in 1 Cor 6:9-10 and Galatians 6:7-8, Galatians 5:19-21---these are warnings to Christians(not that they don't apply to non-Christians also).
I don't know what is meant by "sin in the Spirit"--this is what I'm asking about from the video, where he says at 3:35-3:39 "Spirit...cannot sin." This type of teaching is what I'm asking more Scriptural proof for...that part of you can sin and a part cannot.

@droptozro That's your problem of not listening well with what the guy in the video says - There is a SPIRIT that will correct our SOUL when it desires the PHYSICAL needs which is against God's will. This is why there is a term called ' Condemn by Spirit' when you feel like you have done something wrong. I mean, come on....that is what he was saying all the way from the begining of the video.

Brother, I heard him---the speaker says your "Spirit cannot sin"--and that is his interpretation of 1 John 3:9. I agree with what you're saying in the above comment unless I'm mis-understanding something... but to say that we will all continue in sins of the flesh and still live because of the Spirit that "cannot sin" is a lie, that's not in the Scriptures---that is what I ask for more proof of... are you understanding my question?

@droptozro All those verses you quoted are sins of the flesh. I think they could lead you to the ultimate sin unto death from 1 John 5:16. This is evident from Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do thos things which are not convenient. But also like I quoted from Gal 5:16: Walk in the Spirit so, we do not fulfil the lust of the flesh. So walk in the Spirit.

Okay, I agree with you on most parts except that it says those sins of the flesh will lead to Spiritual death---not that they will lead you to the "sin unto death" like 1 John 5:16 is speaking about. Do not add to the Scriptures--it says they will lead to death, Romans 8:13--is a warning to Christians. If one continues in sin even as a professing Christian, it will be death for them.

@droptozro I am not adding the scriptures it is written in 1 John 5:16 there is only one sin unto death. Yes if we sow to the flesh we will reap death, but if we are children of God we will be chastised to bring us back. Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
The issue is if we get entagled in those sins and we lose faith.

Chastisement doesn't have to be because of sin... don't get wrong, it can be-because of sin also, but don't impose that on the Scriptures. Chastisement can be used in just correction/training to make one more godly overall(such as fasting, prayer, God giving or taking things away, persecution etc...)
So what if you are entangled in those sins but still claim faith? Is God faithful to punish with spiritual death, or is He mocked and allows you still into heaven? Gal 6:7-8
