The G8 GT has 39 less HP, 15 less TQ and weighs over 200 pounds more and has a less aerodynamic 0.35cd drag versus the GTO's more aerodynamic 0.31cd... That would make sense that the less powerful, less aerodynamic, heavier car is faster LOL. If you're talking about the LS1 GTO or LS2 GTO automatic, disregard my comment and I would agree with you there. I haven't seen the A4 GTO run the 1/4. The G8 GT wont beat the LS2 GTO 6 speed stock vs stock unless the guy can't drive.

@thunderup86....GTO curb weight is 3725 and G8 is 3950 so no GTO is lighter. The "slap shift" in stock form is pure shit...worse than a tempermental 700R4 w manual valve body...shifts when it feel like it, occassionally flares, and takes longer than a 60yr old granny. Once the TCM is tuned and Torque Management limited or removed, the 6L80 is a beast, and the "slap shift" is actually worthwhile.

Wouldn't call them babies considering they both offer 6.0 (L76 here and L98 there) and 6.2s (LS3s). No Pontiac doesn't have a W427 though...other than that they're basically identical, just rebadged...minus the availability of DOD on the GTs L76 which the L98 models don't have in Aus.

@GXPFiend the GXP is much heavier than a GTO. GTOs weight only a little bit more than a WS6. actually 65 pounds lol. gto weights 3725lbs and g8 gxp weights 4023.4 lbs so normally for 2 cars that make same power the car that weights more looses. and to my experiences each 100lbs extra = about 2 tenths slower. so in other words a gto will be about 5 tenths faster. It depends on driver ofcourse but its capable of that. remember a g8 is 4 doors and gto is 2 doors.

With the exception of the strangely strong (ringer) numbers Car and Driver magazine got that year, the 89 turbo actually matches up very closely to the G8 GT stock for stock if you roughly average out all the other car mag numbers, and since the GXP is slightly faster than the GT that would make it faster than the 89 TTA too. But for a long time, it was the fastest. A beast for sure. Makes a G8 4 door sedan even more impressive. Owned an 89 and now a G8. Love em both!

Different chassis, the G8 has the Zeta platform which the GTO doesn't have, and the GTO in this vid has the LS1, whereas the G8 has a L76, NOT the LS2 which is different from the L76 as well. Just because the L76 and LS2 are 6.0 doesn't mean they are the same, L76 has L92 rectangular port heads and an LS3 intake, LS2 has 243 heads which are cathedral port.
The GTO DID lose. G8 gets off the line much quicker than stock geared GTOs due to their gearing.
I live in Australia... the zeta platfrom is only an slight update nothing more over the the older GTO platform, the platforn update allows it to be used in left hand drive countries.
To be honest if the GTO really had all those mods and still didn't win then the driver is complete crap, as it'd be well into 700-800rwhp,
There's Holdens with LS1 with well over 2000HP for doing drags and dynos in Australia as I've seen a few on the drags also have videos of them doing dyno runs.

Lol, both are pretty much the exact same car.
Same chasis
Same motor
Anyway could tell who won that anyway, I dubt that the GTO would have lost having all those mods done to it as the motors are the same in both models.
The Holden VE which is the G8 is pretty much just a slight body change plus a tweak to the chasis.

The GTO is based on the 2004-5 Holden commodore SS, they were sold here as well, just renamed.
Anyway, heres a VE SS ute 6Ltr LS2 doing 330rwhp stock up to 543rwhp after the same sort of mods as per the GTO.

The GTO was based off the Holden/Vauxhall MONARO or the Middle East's LUMINA SS, not the Commodore, you must be thinking about the G8.
The GTO is on the LHD platform, NOT Australias "Billion Dollar Baby" Zeta platform.
I moderate a G8 forum and OWN an LS1, and LT headers, Catback, CAI, U/D pulley, DOES NOT NET 700HP!
As I said before, the GTO HAS AN LS1 IN THIS VIDEO, the G8 has the 6.0 L76, NEITHER HAVE ANYTHING RESEMBLING AN LS2!
