Albert Einstein once said: "The world is dangerous place to live in: but not because of people who are evil, but because of people who don`t do nothing about it."
This kind of establishment`s should be prohibited by law!
CND know absolutely nothing about the research we do and how it benefits the UK as a nation. Accidental detonation is impossible, trust me i'm a nuclear scientist. Complete nuclear disarmament is also an impossibility. A deterrent adds to our national security and ensures we maintain our position in the world as a peace broker. That's all it is, a deterrent! We would never use them! - PS - we will be building a new generation.
I must admit thatI an in two minf=ds on this one yes nuclear weapons are evil, yet we are surrounded by evil, only yesterday a nice respectable muslim doctor got imprisoned for wanting to detonate bombs in London, a nuclear device would be a wet dream to these people. I live in reading so would be among the first of many to be atomised if one ever went off by accident.
Whereas at the nearby AWE Burghfield site, they do assemble them in to complete functioning bombs, inside structures condemned as unsafe by the nuclear safety inspectors.
No one is claiming the UK will engage in supercritical testing, but with the AWE workforce increasing by almost one-third over the past four years and billions being spent to upgrade the facility, the need to highlight the ongoing development is clear.
The vast majority of investment is not intended to ensure the 'safety' of the weapons. Millions spent on a new laser (capable of recreating the condition during a detonation) do not make accidental detonation any more difficult, they do not add the safety features such as PAL, which every other major nuclear power uses - they do however take AWE a long way towards having all the tools required to develop a new warhead, despite Parliament not planning to discuss this for several years.
Firstly, people do care...the majority of the British people, as Tony Blair admitted himself not too long ago. Secondly, as has been pointed out, this event was not about blocking the builders. As such the bank holiday worked in our favour as more people were able to attend.
This is not a blockade or attempt to disrupt work at the site, therefore it is irrelevant whether AWE is active on the day. Tactics aimed at disruption are used by groups at other times, but not this weekend, which marks the 50th anniversary of the first march to Aldermaston, which also arrived on Easter Monday.
A poll by More4 news showed 72% do not support the Gov plan to replace the subs now, even more must oppose £5bn being spent upgrading AWE for new warheads without a Parliamentary vote
What does CND propose the government use as an alternative 'deterrent' to trident or a successor?
I can understand the desire for world peace, however whilst there are still rogue states with the potential to attack the UK I think the general concensus is that these weapons are a necessary evil.

What about the information provided by AWE on their website - is that 'crap' also? The 'Our Sites' page includes the following:
"AWE Burghfield...is responsible for the complex final assembly and maintenance of the warheads while in service, as well as their decommissioning."
In case you are in a position to know what AWE do better than they do themselves, do you wish to explain where the final assembly takes place?

It all well and good to make a few people late for work at awe for a few hours. But it really doesn't make a real difference.

It didn't make anyone late, no-one was actually working on that Bank Holiday Monday =)

What are you all on about? The UK ratified the CTBT so there's going to be no more testing!

I'd rather have top-of-the-range facilities and equipment making sure our current stockpile is maintained properly and safely, wouldn't you?

No one works on Monday! d'Oh!
When will learn, when will you construct a proper argument and present it in the correct manner. No wonder people dont give a damn what you think.
