I read the other day that someone wanted to know why Eric Selvig was also in the movie; the answer is in after the end credits of thor, when we see Loki has taken over the mind of Eric. Stellan Skarsgaard has said that his character returns in the Avengers because Loki is controlling him in order to get information from SHIELD.
